are two of the players Arizona counts on most Scott Schebler Jersey , and they came through when sorely needed on Sunday.Goldschmidt hit his 30th homer, Greinke won for the first time in almost a month and the Diamondbacks avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of Seattle by beating the Mariners 5-2.With the victory and Colorado’s 12-3 loss to St. Louis, the Diamondbacks were back alone in first place in the NL West, a game up on the Rockies and 2½ ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Houston beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1, so Seattle fell 6½ behind the Astros in the AL West.“This is an amazing game, and you can’t take anything for granted,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. “We fumbled a couple of balls out there and that leads to a couple of runs, but when we had to, we made pitches and made plays and won a very tough game.“When I tell you today was hard, that was probably an understatement after what we walked through last night.”Goldschmidt’s three-run shot off Mike Leake (8-8) punctuated a five-run third inning for the Diamondbacks, who bounced back from blowing a two-run lead in the ninth Saturday night and losing in 10 innings.Arizona flirted with losing this one in the ninth, too. Ben Gamel and Chris Herrmann opened the inning with singles off Yoshihisa Hirano and left fielder David Peralta dropped Dee Gordon’s line drive to allow a run to score.Brad Boxberger, who blew the save Saturday night , came in and walked pinch-hitter Nelson Cruz to load the bases. But Mitch Haniger lined out sharply to third and Robinson Cano bounced into a double play to give Boxberger his 29th save in 35 tries.“We did put some pressure on them, had our chances there late,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said, “just not enough.”Greinke (13-8) gave up an unearned run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking two. He had gone 0-3 in his previous four starts.Leake fell to 0-4 in his last 10 starts and hasn’t won since June 23 despite several strong outings in that span. He was tagged for five runs and seven hits, striking out six in six innings Sunday.“It’s part of the game,” he said of the long stretch without a win. “There’s ups and downs. It’s what you learn throughout your career. It’s just part of it and you’ve just got to keep doing a good job.”Jeff Mathis, Greinke and Jon Jay loaded the bases with one-out singles in the third. A.J. Pollock brought the tying run home with a sacrifice fly and David Peralta made it 2-1 with a slow-rolling RBI infield single.Peralta’s was the key hit of the inning, Servais said, “an extra out.”That brought up Goldschmidt, who was 1-for-10 in the series before sending Leake’s pitch deep into the left field seats. It is Goldschmidt’s fourth career 30-homer season.“Honestly, it’s not something I’m thinking about,” he said. “We’re obviously here in a playoff race and just trying to find a way and go out and perform and help us win. Even if I don’t do that (hit 30 homers) and the team wins George Foster Jersey , that’s most important.”Seattle got an unearned run in the first when Haniger reached on shortstop Ketel Marte’s throwing error. With two outs, Haniger advanced to second on Denard Span’s single and scored when Kyle Seager singled.TRAINER’S ROOMMariners: Leake was scratched from his last scheduled start Aug. 21 because of illness.McCAIN TRIBUTEThe Diamondbacks showed a video tribute to Arizona Sen. John McCain, who died Saturday of brain cancer. McCain was a fan of the team and a regular at games until his illness forced him to stay away. The tribute even included a repeat of McCain’s tweet after the Dodgers celebrated clinching the pennant with a dip in the Chase Field swimming pool, calling it a “no class act by a bunch of overpaid, immature, arrogant, spoiled brats.”After the video, there was a moment of silence for McCain. A No. 18 jersey with the name “McCain” hung in the Diamondbacks’ dugout. In a statement, Diamondbacks President and CEO Derrick Hall said, “I am honored to consider him a friend and we will miss seeing his smiling face in the stands.”UP NEXTMariners: After a day off, the Mariners open two-game series in San Diego on Tuesday, with RHP Felix Hernandez (8-11, 5.64 ERA) on the mound against RHP Jacob Nix (1-2 Tom Seaver Jersey , 6.17).Diamondbacks: Arizona opens a three-game series in San Francisco. LHP Patrick Corbin (10-4, 3.17) starts for the Diamondbacks and RHP Chris Stratton (8-7, 5.37) pitches for the Giants. BOSTON — Chris Sale comes off the disabled list to start for the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday at Fenway Park. But don’t get excited — Sale will just be working as what is now called, “the opener,” pitching the first two innings before departing.“Two the first time, hopefully three the second time, then keep going,” Rays manager Alex Cora said. “And then the last one, whenever it is, like a full-go, six or seven innings and 100 pitches.”Article continues below ...Nathan Eovaldi, who has been struggling, will get the long work behind Sale Paul Konerko Jersey , whose bid for a first Cy Young Award appears to be have been erased by the lack of work.Rookie left-hander Ryan Borucki works for the Jays, who come in after a win Sunday in Cleveland and are playing out the string — using young players amid talk that manager John Gibbons will not return in 2019.Mookie Betts is 5-for-5 with three triples and a double against Borucki. Eduardo Nunez is 3-for-5 (.600), and J.D. Martinez and Brock Holt both 2-for-6 (.333). One of Martinez’s hits was a home run.The current Red Sox roster is a cumulative 17-for-41 (.415) against Borucki.Sale is 12-4 with a 1.97 ERA. He has thrown 28 straight scoreless innings and had 10-plus strikeouts in seven of his last eight starts, averaging 15.88 Ks per nine innings during that span.He hasn’t pitched since Aug. 12, when he returned to the DL after making one return start because of left shoulder inflammation. He has thrown five innings since July 27.The injury is not thought to be serious, but combined with Sale’s history of being ineffective late in seasons — including a poor start in last year’s American League Division Series, it is a concern. The Red Sox, who have won 98 games (49 home, 49 road) — salvaged the finale of a three-game series with the Houston Astros, winning Sunday night’s game in what could be a postseason preview (a rematch of 2017?). The win lowered Boston’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot to one and to win the AL East to 12.“That was awesome,” said Boston pitcher Rick Porcello, who started and couldn’t take advantage of a 5-1 lead to get a no-decision. “Good ballclub over there, especially avoiding the sweep , especially the way we did it. It’s a good win for us; we needed it.”The Red Sox have gone 12-4 against the Blue Jays this season, including 6-1 at Fenway. The last time he faced the Blue Jays was May 11, when Sale struck out 15 in a nine-inning no-decision. He is 5-4 with a 2.83 ERA lifetime against Toronto.Borucki faces the Red Sox for the third time this season and the results have not been good. He has worked eight innings, yielding 17 hits and 11 runs (eight earned).Borucki had quality starts in eight of his 13 times on the mound since his recall in late June. The Jays (65-78) have split their last 10 games and gone 10-9 in their last 19.Toronto’s Randal Grichuk avoided a concussion when he collided with a security guard’s chair Sunday in Toronto. He is day to day after tests came back negative.“They took him in to get X-rays and the concussion thing,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said after the game. “He was conscious. I don’t think he blacked out, to be honest with you. “I don’t know that, but I saw him in the clubhouse between innings, and he was grinning and laughing a little bit, so that’s a good sign.”Said Gibbons: “He’s a pretty boy, man. You don’t want to hurt that face.”

with a team as pitchers and catchers report to spring training this week Larry Doby Jersey , but he reportedly won't settle for a short-term contract. On Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported Harper is not "even considering" a short-term deal. This comes after Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported the San Francisco Giants planned on offering "a lucrative short-term deal" but did not want "to provide a long-term contract approaching the 10-year, $300 million contract Harper rejected from the Washington Nationals in September."Buster Olney of ESPN added more context to the suggestion Harper will not sign a short-term deal with the team:Buster Olney Buster_ESPNThere continues to be skepticism among some of the folks involved in the Giants/Harper conversation that San Francisco would generate the kind of offer that would sway the slugger. More smoke than fire at this point, in eyes of some involved.Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi confirmed his team met with Harper in the outfielder's hometown of Las Vegas and pointed to "mutual interest on both sides Bob Feller Jersey ," perMaria Guardadoof's fit on San Francisco is clear given its offensive struggles from a year ago. The National League West team finished 29th in the league in total runs scored on the way to a 73-89 record and looked nothing like the organization that took home World Series trophies in 2010, 2012 and 2014.The 26-year-old already has a National League MVP, Silver Slugger, NL Rookie of the Year and six All-Star Game selections on his resume and can anchor a lineup for a contender for approximately a decade given his production and his age.He shouldn't have to settle for a short-term deal even in a quiet offseason that still features a number of notable other free agents , such as Manny Machado. It appears as if he won't, meaning the Giants, Philadelphia Phillies or any other team that is interested in adding one of baseball's best players to their lineups will have to commit to a long-term deal before the 2019 season begins at the end of next month. NEW YORK (AP) — An arbitrator has denied a grievance filed by the Major League Baseball Players Association on behalf of Carter Stewart, who failed to sign with the Atlanta Braves last summer and will be eligible for this year’s amateur draft.Stewart Joe Carter Jersey , a right-handed pitcher from Eau Gallie High School in Florida, was selected by the Braves with the eighth overall pick in last year’s draft, and negotiations were complicated by a wrist injury. Because he didn’t sign, the Braves get an extra selection in the first round this June , the ninth pick overall. The eighth pick had a slot value of $4,980,700 for its signing bonus, and the union claimed the Braves failed to make Stewart an offer of at least 40 percent of the slot value. Major league rules specify that if a club fails to make such an offer to a drafted player who is not part of Major League Baseball’s pre-draft MRI program and who later fails a club-administered physical Corey Kluber Jersey , the player would become a free agent and the team would not get the extra draft pick.Arbitrator Mark Irvings held the Braves made a 40 percent offer to Stewart, which meant he did not have to rule on any of the other issues presented by the case. The union declined to comment.Stewart is enrolled at Eastern Florida State College.

yet chosen a new agent after Brodie Van Wagenen left his agency to become Mets general manager , and the NL Cy Young Award winner is open to discussing a contract extension with New York.Speaking on Wednesday night after being awarded his first Cy Young, deGrom said he is still “trying to figure everything out” after Van Wagenen gave up his career as an agent to deGrom, Yoenis Cespedes, Todd Frazier and others to become the Mets’ general manager last month. The 30-year-old right-hander is under contractual control with New York through the 2020 season. He says he is open to signing an extension with the Mets, but says no discussions have begun. He says his “goal is to continue to keep an open dialogue and just see where things go.”Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon has said there are provisions in Van Wagenen’s contract “to deal with any conflicts of interest.” Some players and rival agents have expressed concerns about Van Wagenen flipping labor-relations roles. MIAMI (AP) — Charlie Blackmon barely got his line drive into fair territory to give Colorado the lead. Ian Desmond barely got high enough to rob Lewis Brinson of a homer and preserve that lead. For eight innings, the Rockies did just enough. In the ninth, they busted out in a big way.Blackmon had three hits and two RBIs, German Marquez struck out seven in six innings and Colorado scored four ninth-inning runs to cap a 6-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Friday night. Marquez (1-0) and three relievers combined to limit the Marlins to two hits.“Overall, he pitched great Matt Szczur Jersey ,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “He got a feel for his breaking ball. The fastball had good carry and life all night.”Nolan Arenado and Tony Wolters each had two hits and an RBI for the Rockies. Marquez (1-0) allowed two hits and one run, and the Rockies have yielded only six hits in the season’s first two games.“Baseball is a mental game and you have to remain under control,” Marquez said. The four-run Rockies ninth disappointed the few fans that remained from the 6,503 paid attendance for Miami’s second game of the season. Adam Conley (0-1), the second of five Miami pitchers, gave up two hits and the go-ahead run in the seventh.Marlins starter Trevor Richards gave up four hits and one run in six innings. The four Miami relievers allowed seven hits and five runs in three innings, four of those runs getting charged to Sergio Romo.“Early in the game I was kind of not throwing exactly how I wanted to,” Richards said. “But I was able to settle in.”Curtis Granderson hit his first homer for Miami, which has four runs this season — all off solo homers. Brinson nearly tied it for Miami in the eighth , but his fly to nearly straightaway center field in cavernous Marlins Park was caught near the top of the wall by Desmond.“I was able to get a good jump on it,” Desmond said. After that, the Marlins fell apart. Colorado’s four runs in the ninth came on five hits, one of those hits awarded on a botched pop-up to short left and another coming on a misplayed liner to center. The Marlins were hitless through three innings for the second straight day, until Granderson connected on his 333rd career home run to open the fourth. The Rockies tied it in the sixth, when David Dahl’s rapidly decelerating grounder into right field was enough to allow Trevor Story — the recipient of a two-out walk one batter earlier — to score all the way from first. And then Miami wasted big chances in its half of the sixth.Miami went scoreless that inning despite getting an infield single by Rosell Herrera (after replay overturned the original out call), two walks, two wild pitches and one hit batter. Herrera was thrown out trying to steal second, one of two would-be swipers caught by Wolters on the night Trevor Hoffman Jersey , and Starlin Castro grounded to short with the bases loaded to end the frame.“We’re better than this,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. “I think our guys know it. You never know quite how you’re going to get out of the box coming out of spring training.”TRAINER’S ROOMRockies 1B Daniel Murphy was shaken up in the fourth inning, injuring his left hand as he sprawled to field a grounder. Murphy winced while being evaluated but stayed in the game.STARTING FASTThis is the first time since 2009 that the Marlins have four home runs in the season’s first two games.4 FOR 4This is a four-game series with four different first-pitch start times; it was 4:10 p.m. ET on Thursday and 7:10 on Friday, followed by 6:10 on Saturday and 1:10 on Sunday.  Miguel Rojas Jersey , Fla. (AP) — Leury Garcia’s risky play in the ninth inning turned into a costly mistake by Matt Duffy.Tim Anderson scored when Duffy committed a throwing error on Garcia’s two-strike bunt, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Saturday night for their third straight win.Anderson led off the ninth with a double off Yonny Chirinos (0-4). Garcia then bunted a 0-2 pitch toward third, and Duffy threw wildly toward first.“He was looking at the defense, hoping to split them probably a little more,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. “But if you hustle, if you put more pressure on the defense, you give yourself a chance. It worked out. A pretty good defender threw wild to first.”Duffy said he air-mailed his throw a little bit.“Just a physical mistake,” he said.Xavier Cedeno (2-0) got the last out of the eighth for the win, and Thyago Vieira pitched the ninth for his first major league save.Jose Abreu hit his 19th homer in the fourth for Chicago, tying it at 1. It was Abreu’s third homer in three games, and his ninth in 29 games against Tampa Bay.Tampa Bay left-hander Blake Snell allowed three hits in four innings in his first start for the Rays since July 12. After pitching in the All-Star Game on July 17, the 12-game winner missed a start due to left shoulder fatigue.“Overall I’m happy with the way I felt,” he said. “It was more draining than I expected but I could have gone out again. It’s something to build on.”Snell became the first pitcher with 12 consecutive home starts of giving up one or fewer earned runs since Max Lanier of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1943-44. He has an earned run average of 0.97 in nine home starts this year.Carlos Rodon pitched six effective innings for the White Sox. He yielded an unearned run and three hits with four strikeouts and five walks.Carlos Gomez scored Tampa Bay’s only run after a double in in the second inning. Gomez moved up on a passed ball and scored on Willy Adames‘ infield single. It was the 25th one-run loss of the season for the Rays, who had only three hits.Renteria was ejected by umpire Jerry Meals during the fifth inning after a replay confirmed a disputed forceout of Yolmer Sanchez at second base.“You’re not allowed to expose yourself to conversation with the umpire once the replay is called,” said Renteria. “To their credit, they kept trying to stop me but I just wanted to make sure my sentiments were understood.”ACTING AWARDGomez went down to the ground following a step toward first base after getting hit for his AL-leading 17th time in the sixth. He then got back up smiling and pointing toward the Tampa Bay dugout. It turned out to be a staged comedy performance.“We were playing around the other day. I said as a joke to (manager Kevin) Cash and the training staff, ‘I’m the only one to get hit that you never come out to check on me,'” Gomez said. “So I said, ‘Hey next time I’m going to look like I’m going to die.'”Gomez and Rodon shared a laugh along the third-base line after the inning.“He thought like something happened,” Gomez said. “I apologized to him. Nothing happened. Just trying to make it fun.”10 YEARS AFTERTwenty members of the Rays’ 2008 AL championship team were honored in a pregame ceremony, along with three coaches and Soot Zimmer Bryan Holaday Jersey , widow of former Rays senior adviser Don Zimmer.TRAINER’S ROOMWhite Sox: Anderson has been playing with a tender left knee. Tampa Bay’s career leader in wins (87), Shields is 3-0 in four careers starts against his former team. Hunter Wood or Ryne Stanek will start for the Rays. Within 22 months, Kimbrel, Simmons, Heyward and Upton would all be gone. So would Wren, fired as general manager with a week to go in the 2014 season, less than eight months after Freeman signed his contract.Former longtime front office executive John Hart left the MLB Network studios and took over as the head of baseball operations. It wasn't long before he realized the upper levels of the farm system were barren and the payroll wouldn't work, and the Braves needed to go into full rebuilding mode. Everyone and anyone of value could be traded.Except Freeman.Hart came to believe the same thing Wren did, that Freeman was indispensable. He also learned about Freeman's character, which showed up the day the Braves signed him to the extension."He was extremely appreciative and loyal to the organization when we gave him that contract," said Wren, now the senior vice president/player personnel of the Boston Red Sox. "He was as appreciative a young player as I've seen."When Freeman signed his deal in February 2014, he had three years of major league service time and was arbitration-eligible for the first time in his career. It was the point when a player could expect a long-term contract offer and the question would be whether to sign or to wait it out for bigger riches in free agency.Freeman was just happy the Braves trusted him enough to offer him all that money."Four years later, I'm still kind of at a loss for words," he said. "I never, ever thought any of this would happen. I grew up playing a game I loved and grew up playing with my brothers and my dad. Next thing you know, I'm here. Believe me, I didn't expect any of this."No one who knows Freeman is surprised to hear him say this. And everyone who knows him is certain he means it.That's one reason Hart and the people who came in to run the Braves believed he was the one guy who would stay, the guy they could keep through the rebuilding and into the better years to come, the guy who would be able to handle all of it."Freddie was going to be the cornerstone piece ," said Hart, who left the Braves last November. For Freeman and manager Brian Snitker, both Braves for life, 2018 has been a fun year.Mitchell Leff/Getty ImagesSo as they traded Heyward to St. Louis and Kimbrel and Upton to San Diego and Simmons to the Los Angeles Angels and Evan Gattis to Houston and Shelby Miller to Arizona, Freeman remained through 2015 (95 losses), 2016 (93 losses) and 2017 (90 losses)."I cannot make it any more clear: We are not trading Freddie Freeman," former general manager John Coppolella told Bob Nightengale of USA Today in November 2015, right after the Simmons trade. "We are not. I'd give my right arm before we trade Freddie Freeman. It is not happening."Reading those words at home in Atlanta, Freeman loved it. He couldn't believe a general manager would say something like that. He was even more impressed when Coppolella picked up the phone and called him directly to say the same thing."I didn't want to leave鈥攅ver," Freeman said. "I still don't."It wasn't easy watching friends leave, going to spring training with a team everyone knew couldn't win.It wasn't easy when Freeman got off to an MVP-type start last year, only to have his left wrist fractured on May 17 when Toronto's Aaron Loup hit him with a pitch. He was leading the National League in home runs at the time, with 14 in 37 games, the most of any Brave that early in a season since Hank Aaron. He was hitting .341 with a .461 on-base percentage and .748 slugging percentage."I thought for sure he was going to win the MVP," Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz said. The doctors said he would miss at least 10 weeks. Freeman told them he was a fast healer and vowed to do anything he could to return quicker. He came back on July 4, one day less than seven weeks after the injury.Oh, and he came back as a third baseman.Ask Braves players and coaches, and Freeman's brief move to third base is often the first thing they bring up. It wasn't just that an All-Star first baseman agreed to play third. It was that he offered to do it without ever being asked, because the Braves had traded for first baseman Matt Adams while he was hurt, and while Adams was hitting well, third base was more of a problem."He was the one who made the suggestion Justin Bour Jersey ," said Ron Washington, who coaches the Braves infielders. "And he handled himself immaculately."Freeman shrugs it off. He signed out of high school as a third baseman, he reminds you. So what if his entire pro experience at third before last year was five games in rookie ball in 2007.Freemans teammates in Atlanta were surprised he volunteered to move across the diamond to play third base upon his return from a broken wrist last season.Tom Mihalek/Associated Press/Associated PressHe was helping the team, and he was helping Adams. In fact, Freeman now says the one good thing about getting hurt was that it helped Adams jump-start his career."What a great guy he is," Freeman said. "He needed an opportunity. I always look at the positive in things. Matt Adams is a beautiful human being. With the bad that happened to me in breaking my wrist, the good happened to him in getting an opportunity."It would be easy for Freeman to play the hero now, to say how great it is to play for the Braves. They're a half game out of first in the NL East and have such a surplus of young talent that it's not hard to see them contending for many seasons ahead.Freeman, however, never wavered in saying how much he wanted to play for the Braves through all the losing. He said it last winter, after four straight years of losing, when Fox Sports South interviewed him at the Braves' Chop Fest.He brought up Chipper Jones, who played 19 seasons with the Braves and never put on another uniform, and who is going into the Hall of Fame this month."Chipper is the Braves," Freeman said. "Never wanted to be a free agent. He was loyal. That rubs off on me. I want to be here forever. So hopefully I can follow in his path. I don't know if I'll ever do what he did, but hopefully I can be here for the rest of my career."Jones was also part of six teams that won at least 100 games鈥攁nd only one team that lost as many as 90."Chipper was fortunate enough he got here at the right time," Snitker said. "He had good timing."Snitker is as much a Brave as Freeman. He signed with the team in 1977 as an undrafted free agent out of the University of New Orleans and played four seasons in the minor leagues before turning to coaching and managing.Freeman cites friend and former teammate Chipper Jones when he talks about wanting to play his entire career with the Braves.Logan Riely/Atlanta Braves/Getty ImagesHe's been with the organization ever since, and he was Cox's third base coach when Freeman debuted in the big leagues in 2010."Snit cares more about the person than the player," Freeman said. "You respect the man Brian Snitker is. He deserves a World Series ring."Many would say the same about Freeman.Life is good for Freddie Freeman now. He's happily married, his son Charlie is nearly two years old and he's already picking up anything that looks like a baseball bat and swinging it. On the field, Freddie is playing well and his team is winning. And he doesn't even have to fight Atlanta's notorious traffic to get to the ballpark each day.The Braves moved to SunTrust Park before the 2017 season , and in preparation for the switch from Turner Field, Freeman moved, too. He had lived in Atlanta year-round since 2011, even though his family in California would prefer to have him closer to home in the winter. But the new park is in Cobb County, on the north side of town, and Freeman wanted to be a little closer."It's 13 minutes, all on back roads," he said.He loves the new park and the development around it. He praised first-year general manager Alex Anthopoulos for improving and enlarging the room where players' families wait after games. He's proud that when he sees opposing players at first base, they all tell him they view Atlanta as a great place to play.Just as Freeman has always believed. He admits there were times during the year everyone else got traded that he didn't understand why it had to happen. But he says he came to believe it was the right thing for the organization, even though it hurt him to lose close friends, as well as talented teammates. He told's Jerry Crasnicklast year that the Heyward trade was the toughest to take."Selfishly, me and him would always say we wanted to play our whole careers together," Freeman said then. "It was definitely weird seeing him leave.鈥滲ut ask him now about the friends who left, and Freeman has a different outlook."You never know," he said. "They might come back."You never know. The Braves could use a top closer. Kimbrel will be a free agent this winter. They might come back, and they might love it. But they won't be able to appreciate it the way Freeman does.He was the one chosen to stay. Now he's the one who can appreciate the Braves' success most of all.Danny Knobler covers Major League Baseball as a national columnist for Bleacher Report.Follow Danny on Twitter and talk baseball.

under the lights of Levi’s Stadium for what’s likely to be the teams’ final Battle of the Bay before the silver and black’s 2020 move to Las Vegas. The results were surprising Womens Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , with the 49ers dominating the Raiders on both sides of the ball seemingly with ease. Here’s five takeaways from the 49ers’ 34-3 win over the Raiders:We believe in Mullens MagicThe underdogs most of the week, the Raiders became the odds-on favorite the moment news broke pre-game that third-string-turned-backup Nick Mullens was starting for the 49ers on Thursday night. Unfortunately for anyone that took that bet, Mullens obliterated the Raiders in his first professional start. The second-year quarterback completed 16 of 22 (72.7%) passes for 262 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers and a rating of 151.9. It is on the short list for greatest debut performances ever by an NFL quarterback.George Kittle continues to dominateKittle continues to give us a reason to feature him in our post-game takeaways. The 49ers’ second-year tight end was dominant once again Thursday against the Raiders. He reeled in four receptions on four targets for 108 yards and touchdown. Thursday was Kittle’s second 100-yard performance of 2018, with 71 of those coming on an incredible one-handed catch-and-run on a Mullens pass squeezed in perfectly between three defenders.Dekoda Watson big on returnWatson was placed on injured reserve in September after suffering a hamstring injury during practice prior to the regular season. The veteran linebacker made his return Sunday and was effective off the edge for the 49ers. Watson totaled three tackles, 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and one tackle for loss against the Raiders. The 49ers’ defense has lacked a consistent pass rush so far this season and while Watson may not be a long-term solution, his production Thursday will be encouraging for the 49ers moving forward.Mike McGlinchey is a home runOffensive lineman don’t make the highlight reel often but 49ers rookie Mike McGlinchey has made a habit of it. He drove a man off the field and into the Cardinals’ sideline in Arizona and again found a way to stand out Thursday against the Raiders. The 6-foot-8, 315-pound first-rounder ran 51 yards downfield to pave the way for running back Raheem Mostert’s touchdown. McGlinchey, Pro Football Focus’ top-graded rookie offensive lineman, has been a home-run pick so far for the 49ers and general manager John Lynch.Robert Saleh’s defense stiflesThe 49ers’ defense completely shut down the Raiders. In addition to Watson’s stellar return , the pass rush as a whole was the most notable improvement with Cassius Marsh (2.5), DeForest Buckner, and Solomon Thomas all sacking Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. The defense also racked up ten quarterback hits, and eight tackles for a loss. They failed to secure a takeaway, which has been an issue all year, but they thoroughly dominated a shaky Raiders offense. The cornerbacks were barely tested after the opening drive, while linebacker Fred Warner showed up big in his coverage work. After some hiccups on the opening drive, this was a much-needed near perfect performance by the 49ers defense. The San Francisco 49ers head into their bye week with a chance to get as healthy as one could expect at this point in the season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media on Tuesday he anticipates everybody on the 53-man roster being able to practice next week. The team’s injury report from Monday included cornerback K’Waun Williams suffering a stinger late in the game, but he checked out fine on Tuesday. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin took two blows to the head that seemed concerning. He returned to the game after an independent examiner checked him out, and Shanahan said he did not have any concussion symptoms Tuesday morning.Additionally, safety Jaquiski Tartt, linebacker Reuben Foster San Francisco 49ers T-Shirt , and wide receiver Pierre Gar莽on all were ruled out prior to the game, but Shanahan anticipates them practicing next week when the team returns to prepare for Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This will be the first time in a while the team, should have all 53 players available for a game. Having ten days off between Week 9 and Week 10, followed by a bye week in Week 11 can really help a team get at least moderately healthy. Injuries are going to happen, but this was about as ideal a three week stretch as the 49ers could hope for on the schedule. That also means we’ll see some changes to the snap count when Week 12 rolls around. I’ve posted the snap count below, and you can also check out the gamebook PDF.Kendrick Bourne ended up with the most snaps at wide receiver, but his number will decline when Gar莽on returns. Dante Pettis was plenty active, but Bourne has been the guy who moves into the starting lineup when Gar莽on is out. Pettis did have a bump in work this week, playing 56 percent of offensive snaps. If all the receivers are healthy in two weeks, I’m curious to see how the workload is split between Bourne and Pettis. On defense, getting Jaquiski Tartt back raises questions about the backup role. Antone Exum likely remains the backup and gets a heavy special teams workload, but what happens to rookie Marcell Harris? He was the backup strong safety this week with Tartt injured San Francisco 49ers Hats , but will he find himself inactive in Week 12?Reuben Foster should be back as well, which means some changes in the defensive structure. When Foster has been out, Malcolm Smith starts at weak side linebacker, next to middle linebacker Fred Warner, with Mark Nzeocha serving as the strong side linebacker. When Foster has played, Smith has been the SAM, while Nzeocha has been more of a special teams player.49ers snap count vs. Giants, Week 10PlayerOffenseDefenseSTPlayerOffenseDefenseST

Cheap Customized San Francisco 49ers Jerseys , C.J. Beathard, and what to expect moving forward The Jimmy Garoppolo knee injury will continue to be talked about until 2019’s training camp rolls around for what could have been. No doubt the injury hurts Garoppolo’s development into a starter role as the team around him continues to fully immerse itself in the system without him. While with the Atlanta Falcons, Kyle Shanahan’s offense took some getting used to. A whole season actually. The first year it was introduced, Matt Ryan threw 16 interceptions to 21 touchdowns. The second year, he was MVP. Which is all the more reason Garoppolo’s injury hurts this development. Many presumed his head start in 2017 meant the growing pains wouldn’t be as severe, but no one will deny Garoppolo needed a full year in this offense. On Matt Maiocco’s 49ers Insider Podcast former 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia was asked about how bad this injury hurt Garoppolo’s development and if he could have the same improvement in 2019 that Ryan had in year two: Hopefully Garoppolo gets a lot of time to study that playbook and develop as much as he can from the sidelines, because the rest of his team is getting valuable reps. It was a day full of bad news for San Francisco. Matt Breida suffered an ankle injury that cost him the second half of the game and his status is TBD for Week 6. C.J. Beathard was stripped twice of the ball, including one by Chandler Jones that put the Cardinals up 21-12 and effectively sealed the game. The pass catchers struggled with drops, and the offense struggled in spite of dominating time of possession and total yards gained. The 49ers drop to 1-4 with the loss, while the Cardinals improve to 1-4.Matt Breida ruled out with ankle injuryThe 49ers running back left the game in the second quarter after Budda Baker landed on his ankle during a tackle attempt. The trainers taped up Breida’s ankles, but he eventually walked to the locker room. He will not be returning, per FOX sideline reporter Jennifer Hale.Halftime score updateArizona took a 14-6 lead on a touchdown scored after a 49ers turnover. Raheem Mostert had the ball stripped inside Arizona territory with 13:27 remaining in the second quarter. Patrick Peterson picked the ball up and ran it to the 49ers 18 yard line. 4 plays later, David Johnson ran in from the two for the score.1st quarter injury updatePierre Gar莽on left the field after a couple drives and was taken to the locker room without his jersey or pads on. It is reported as a shoulder injury, and he is questionable to return. After that, Matt Breida suffered an injury when Cardinals safety Budda Baker landed on his lower leg during a tackle attempt. He limped off the field with his arms around the shoulders of a trainer and Kyle Juszczyk. He was spotted getting his ankle wrapped with more tape and is listed as questionable to return.49ers, Cardinals exchange touchdowns to open the gameMaybe we’ve got a shootout planned for Week 5 at Levi’s Stadium. The 49ers got on the board first with an impressive opening drive. C.J. Beathard completed all five of his passes for 59 yards, including a five-yard shovel pass to Matt Breida for a game-opening touchdown. Robbie Gould did not get the point after attempt off for a reason that seemed unclear. On the ensuing Cardinals drive, everything that went well for the 49ers offense went poorly for the 49ers defense. On the first play Nick Mullens Jersey , they got no pressure on Josh Rosen, who found a wide open Christian Kirk for a 75-yard touchdown. Phil Dawson converted the extra point and Arizona leads 7-6 midway through the first quarter.InactivesThe 49ers have cornerback Richard Sherman back in action, but no wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. They will be without Jimmie Ward due to a hamstring injury, which means Ahkello Witherspoon or Greg Mabin will get the start opposite Sherman — expect some rotation between Witherspoon and Mabin. Defensive end Ryan Delaire is active after being promoted from the practice squad on Saturday. He is active over defensive tackle D.J. Jones as the 49ers look to boost the pass rush.49ers inactives: WR Marquise Goodwin, WR Dante Pettis, CB Jimmie Ward, OG Joshua Garnett, DT Jullian Taylor, OT Shon Coleman, DT D.J. JonesCardinals inactives: QB Sam Bradford, RB T.J. Logan, DE Markus Golden, OL Jeremy Vujnovich, OL Korey Cunningham, OL Blaine Clausell, DT Robert Nkemdiche49ers roll with a great end zone lookThe 49ers have a fantastic look in their end zone, going with an old school helmet look. They should roll with this more often, although a red background would be a great addition.Injury updateInactives will arrive at 11:55 a.m. PT, but in the meantime, we have pre-game injury updates. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is expected to be inactive with quadricep and hamstring issues. The team activated Victor Bolden from the suspended list on Saturday Nick Mullens 49ers Jersey , which foreshadowed a potential inactive Goodwin. Cornerback Richard Sherman is expected to be active after missing last week’s game with a calf injury. He would start, although we don’t know who of Ahkello Witherspoon, Jimmie Ward, or Greg Mabin would start opposite Sherman.PreviewThe San Francisco 49ers are getting ready for their first divisional matchup of the year, taking on the Arizona Cardinals. This may be a bad Cardinals squad, but one that may have a step up in defense than the banged up Chargers group they recently faced. The Cardinals are looking for their first win of the season as well. This will be an afternoon game kicking off at 1:25 PM.The game will air on FOX and you can see who gets it by looking at our broadcast map. Dick Stockton and Mark Schlereth will be in the booth, while Jennifer Hale is on the sidelines. C.J. Beathard made his first start of 2018 as a surprise to everyone. He completed 62.2 percent of his passes and also was laying the ball in key positions on his receivers could get. The problem was, the receivers were not catching the ball. One such pass bounced off the hands of Garrett Celek and turned into an interception. Others were just a matter of timing things wrong from his pass catchers. Beathard also had to deal with numerous offensive line injuries as the game went on, almost getting knocked out himself on a play late in the game. The Cardinals may be a step down from the Chargers, but their defense is still no joke and the fact it’s a divisional game means it’s going to be a rough day for both teams. For Week 5, the Cardinals have been fighting their own injury issues. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) is questionable (and has been held to under 200 yards for the season). DT Robert Nkemdiche is also questionable with a foot issue. For the 49ers, wide receiver Dante Pettis (knee) is out this week. Cornerback Jimmie Ward has been listed as questionable after tweaking his hamstring Thursday. Wide Receiver Marquese Goodwin (hamstring, quad) is a game time decision. Joe Staley (knee) was quoted by Kyle Shanahan as coming to the facility early to get ready so he should be good to go Sunday.  Youth Odell Beckham Jr Jersey , 9/13: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins notes After Week 1 of the 2018 NFL season, the NFC East has two haves and two have-nots, with Washington and the Philadelphia Eagles each picking up wins and the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants both coming up winless. Dallas and New York face off on Sunday night, likely ending one team’s brief winless streak, while the Eagles will be tested on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington hosts the Indianapolis Colts. Everything can change on Sunday. And ahead of that, let’s take a look around the division at the biggest news swirling about the Giants’ three biggest rivals.Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys managed only eight points in their loss to the Carolina Panthers last week, and Blogging the Boys’ Michael Sisemore has a solution for the team’s offensive and scoring woes: Giving the ball to running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott had only 15 carries for 69 yards and the Cowboys’ lone touchdown in Week 1 Color Rush Patrick Omameh Jersey , and though the Cowboys have issues with their offensive line, Sisemore argues that having quarterback Dak Prescott lead the way is not the right approach. Further, he points to Elliott’s prowess as a receiver as another wrinkle the Cowboys should employ given the team’s lack of weaponry at wideout. Dave Halprin broke down Wednesday’s Dallas practice and injury report. Defensive ends Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence were key Cowboys to sit out, with the former still in the league’s concussion protocol and the latter nursing a groin ailment. Neither are expected to miss Sunday night’s game with the Giants. Prescott, meanwhile, has an ankle injury but is practicing through it.Philadelphia Eagles: Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Lee Gowton reports on Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirming that Nick Foles will again start at quarterback in Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers. Foles struggled against the Atlanta Falcons in Philadelphia’s season-opening win, but the Super Bowl MVP has had better luck, historically, on the road against the Buccaneers. It’s possible this is Foles’ final start. Though Carson Wentz has yet to be cleared for contact following last season’s knee injury Color Rush Nate Solder Jersey , signs are beginning to point to him returning to the field in Week 3 against the Colts. Gowton’s sources include ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Philly Fan Life’s Brandon Sommermann, who says that Wentz has a high probably of being cleared on Friday. Meanwhile, the Eagles are still making changes to their passing offense. They signed receiver Kamar Aiken, once of the Baltimore Ravens and waived receiver Markus Wheaton, once of the Pittsburgh Steelers.Washington: Hogs Haven’s Kennedy Paynter gives a breakdown of Washington’s Week 1 winning performance over the Arizona Cardinals, starting first with the offense and continuing with the defense. On the former, Paynter writes: “It’s quite clear that Jay Gruden feels comfortable throwing anything and everything at his new quarterback [Alex Smith]. The Redskins used some sort of backfield motion on 22 of their 79 offensive snaps, ran 10 RPOs, accounting for over 40% of their offensive snaps.” Paynter also noted that Washington only blitzed four times on defense against the Cardinals and once against the run. This Youth Evan Engram Jersey , “shows that the Redskins can effectively sit back in coverage and get enough pressure with their front-four while also being stout enough against the run without having to send reinforcements against the run.”Scott Jennings compiled the highlights of Gruden’s Wednesday press conference, which confirmed that receivers Cam Sims and Trey Quick will head to injured reserve. The team signed free agent Brian Quick and promoted Jehu Chesson from the practice squad to fill their roster spots. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants saw their faint playoff hopes extinguished on Sunday as they lost to the Tennessee Titans 17-0 in miserable conditions at MetLife Stadium. The loss, in a driving rain, poured buckets of cold, wet reality on the optimism that has permeated the Giants in recent weeks as they have rebounded from a 1-7 start to reach the periphery of playoff contention. The Giants are now 5-9, guaranteed to finish below .500.“We didn’t do anything well enough to expect to win,” coach Pat Shurmur said in a somber post-game assessment. “We didn’t run the ball, we didn’t stay on the field on offense. We had penalties. We didn’t tackle as well as we had in the last few weeks Youth Will Hernandez Jersey , which extended drives for them, and they beat us. We had a turnover that turned into points.”The Giants had an awful day on offense with Odell Beckham Jr. sidelined for a second straight game with a quad injury. The Titans controlled Giants’ running back Saquon Barkley, holding him to 31 yards on 14 carries. Barkley finished with 56 yards from scrimmage, only the second time this season he has been under 100 yards.“When you look at our offense, when you look at our success it starts with running the ball,” offensive guard Jamon Brown said. “We struggled with that today.”With no running game, no Beckham and a driving rain throughout the game Eli Manning had an awful day. Manning went 21-of-44 for 229 yards with an interception and a fumble that led to Tennessee’s second score. He was sacked three times. The Giants were penalized 10 times for 58 yards.Derrick Henry of Tennessee ran 33 times for 170 yards as the Titans simply manhandled the Giants’ defense. As a team, Tennessee ran 44 times for 216 yards.Safety Michael Thomas said the Giants need to “take a look in the mirror. Figure it out,” when it came to giving up that much rushing yardage.“You never want to see anybody rush for 100 yards Youth B.J. Hill Jersey , let alone 170 yards on you.”Moments that matteredKyle Lauletta inactive: After going 0-for-5 with an interception against the Washington Redskins in his NFL debut last Sunday, rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta was replaced as the backup quarterback by Alex Tanney. [Full story]Fourth-and-goal: Tennessee’s first-half touchdown came on a fourth-and-one run by Derrick Henry with 2:47 left in the first quarter.Bad Eli: The Giants reached the Tennessee 29-yard line on their first possession of the second half, but Manning was intercepted by Titans safety Kevin Byard at the 15-yard line. That did not cost the Giants points. A Manning fumble on the Giants’ next possession did. Manning fumbled when sacked on third-and-10 at the Giants’ 14-yard line. Tennessee turned that into a 14-0 lead five plays later on a 1-yard run by Henry.Injury newsGiants’ center Spencer Pulley left the game in the third quarter with a calf injury. John Greco took over at center. The Giants also lost cornerback Antonio Hamilton to a quad injury. What’s next? The Giants go on the road to face Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in a 1 p.m. ET game.

there is something to their optimism these days. The reality is the Giants have a 1-4 record heading into Thursday night's game against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) and they are facing long odds in a bid to make the playoffs in coach Pat Shurmur's first season. The struggling Eagles have beaten New York in their last three meetings and seven of the last eight. The Giants are coming off an excruciating last-second 33-31 loss to Carolina on a 63-yard field goal by Graham Gano Authentic Kerry Wynn Jersey , and now they have to rebound with three days of preparation. But the Giants believe there is reason for hope. Their offense scored 30 points for the first time since the end of the 2015 season. The team rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to take a lead with just over a minute to play, only to be denied by a near-record kick. And they did all this despite dealing with some ill-chosen words by star receiver Odell Beckham Jr., about Eli Manning and the team's heart in the days leading up to the game."Very optimistic," Beckham said Tuesday when asked about the team. "I've always said, it's a long season, and we have an opportunity to come in here in a big, big division game and be able to reshape our season. We know what we have in front of us, short week, just coming off of a tough loss, so we're all just trying to get our minds wrapped around what the game plan is, how we can come out and best beat Philly."The Eagles tend to bring out some of the best in the Giants. Despite winning only three games last season, they lost two games to Philadelphia by eight points, with the first coming on a last-second 61-yard field goal by Jake Elliott. The second was 34-29 in a game New York trailed by two points entering the final quarter. The Giants also could be getting some key players back. Linebacker and leading pass rusher Olivier Vernon, who has yet to play because of a high ankle sprain, is very close to ready. Tight end Evan Engram, who missed the last two games with a sprained knee Authentic Alec Ogletree Jersey , was going to test his knee in practice on Tuesday. Both were limited.Engram watched the telecast of the game in Charlotte this past weekend and was encouraged."There was a point in that game where maybe last year or the old DNA of this team would've given up or would've tapped out," Engram said.Rookie halfback Saquon Barkley said the Giants scored 30 and left points on the field."We got to continue to keep growing, continue to keep working and to be able to put up 30 points," Barkley said. "I think that game showed it was the toughness, the grit, the passion that we played with as a team, and obviously the outcome wasn't the way we wanted to be, but you could learn a lot of things from that game and take that game a long way."NOTES: PK Aldrick Rosas, perfect on field goals and PATs this season, did not practice again because of a sore quad. The Giants have signed Marshall Koehn to their practice squad. He was in training camp. He was working for Randy's Flooring in Coralville, Iowa when the Giants called Monday. "I looked at my phone because I was making a delivery and there were two calls from my dad, two from my mom and two more my agent. Everyone was freaking out." Needless to say, he found his way to New Jersey. The Giants can wait until 4 p.m. on game day to active Koehn if needed. ... LB Connor Barwin (knee) and WR Russell Shepard (neck) also did not practice. Barwin has been dealing with a knee issue all season.__Giants-Eagles: 5 questions with Bleeding Green Nation New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles. Two teams, and fan bases, that largely don’t like each other. With a game between the NFC East rivals looming Thursday, let’s venture into enemy territory and learn some things about the Eagles. Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation answers our 5 questions.Ed: What is your assessment of the Eagles thus far? I thought they would win this division in a cakewalk Authentic Nate Solder Jersey , and they still might, but I’m surprised to see them at 2-3.Brandon: It’s safe to say the reigning Super Bowl champs have been a disappointment through the first five games of the season. This has been a team that just can’t stop shooting themselves in the foot. Take their most recent loss to the Vikings for example. After finally starting to string a promising drive together, Lane Johnson allows Carson Wentz to get strip-sacked and Linval Joseph recovers for a touchdown. Then they get another drive going and actually move into the red zone but Jay Ajayi fumbles at the 5-yard line. The Eagles recover a fumble at the Vikings’ 30-yard line with a chance to take the lead and then proceed to knock themselves out of scoring range by taking an illegal formation penalty followed by a grounding call. Mistakes are always going to happen during the game but it feels like the Eagles continue to make theirs at the worst times. Part of the reason the Eagles haven’t been able to get out of their own way is they have a number of position groups that are underperforming. The offensive line is arguably the biggest disappointment in this regard. After having one of the best lines in the league last season, Philly’s front is suddenly struggling to protect Carson Wentz. The third-year quarterback has been sacked 12 times and hit 27 times during his first three games back from ACL injury. I certainly don’t need to lecture Giants fans on the importance of offensive line play.Jim Schwartz’s defense isn’t off the hook, either. The Eagles’ secondary has been far too leaky. Philadelphia ranks 26th in big-play rate allowed. In the Eagles’ past two games, opposing quarterbacks have combined for 60/80 (75% completion), 645 yards (8.1 average), 4 TD, 1 INT, and a 98.8 passer rating. Put simply, the Eagles just aren’t playing like a good team right now.Ed: How much are they hurt by the loss of Jay Ajayi, and if the Eagles are indeed interested in a LeSean McCoy reunion is that something you would be in favor of?Brandon: Losing Jay Ajayi is significant because he’s the Eagles’ most talented running back, when healthy. The problem is he hasn’t been healthy this year. Prior to tearing his ACL, he suffered a fractured bone in his back during Week 2. I don’t know how he managed to play through both that AND a torn ACL against the Vikings, but that just goes to show you he’s one tough dude.Ajayi is the Eagles’ leading rusher this season with 184 carries and three touchdowns on 45 attempts. He hasn’t been Philly’s most efficient ball-carrier, though. Surprisingly Youth Eli Manning Jersey , fourth-string running back Wendell Smallwood leads the team in rush average at 6.0. In addition to his 150 yards on 25 carries, he’s logged 10 receptions for 96 yards and one score. He’s far from an elite back but he deserves some credit for stepping up.With Smallwood playing well and Corey Clement returning, I’m not ready to flat out panic about the Eagles’ running back situation. Those guys can be at least solid behind an Eagles offensive line that’s struggled in pass protection but has looked good while run blocking. But there’s certainly a lot of room to improve and getting a top weapon like Le’Veon Bell or LeSean McCoy would be really nice right now. The Eagles’ offense rank 28th in big-play rate. They need more play-makers.From a football standpoint, I think McCoy could make sense for the Eagles depending on the cost. From a personal standpoint, I don’t love the idea of rooting on McCoy given all the off-field stuff that’s going on with him.Ed: Where do you think the Eagles have a clear advantage in this game?Brandon: Well, in theory the Eagles’ defensive line should be able to get to Eli Manning. The Giants’ offensive line ranks 24th overall by Pro Football Focus. Football Outsiders, meanwhile, has New York ranked 31st in run blocking and 26th in adjusted sack rate. It seems like the Giants should struggle against an Eagles pass rush that’s generating the highest percent of plays where the opposing quarterback has been under pressure (57%), per PFF. The Eagles could very well make life difficult on Eli Manning and force him into some bad throws and/or sacks.Ed: Where do you think the Giants could have an advantage?Brandon: On the other hand, the Eagles’ pass rush didn’t really faze the Giants last year. Manning had two of his best games of the season against Philly. The Giants were able to get the ball out quick and it felt like the Eagles couldn’t stop the same slant route that the Giants were running over and over. The Giants should even be more difficult to defend now that Odell Beckham Jr. is back. You can be Pat Shurmur will try to get OBJ matched up against Eagles starting cornerback Jalen Mills, who has struggled this season. During last year’s Week 3 Eagles-Giants game, Mills was targeted a whopping 21 TIMES. New York saw a weakness and they tried to exploit it. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them go after Mills again this year.Ed: If you could have one player off the Giants roster for the Eagles NOT named Saquon Barkley or Odell Beckham, who would you take?Brandon: I’ll take Landon Collins. The Eagles are dangerously thin at safety right now with Rodney McLeod out for the season and veteran backup Corey Graham now dealing with a hamstring issue. Philadelphia’s three healthy safeties include: Malcolm Jenkins, Avonte Maddox, and Deiondre’ Hall. Jenkins is obviously a great player. Maddox isn’t even a real safety. The rookie cornerback never played on the back end of the defense until two weeks ago. The Eagles acquired Hall during final cuts and he hasn’t seen any defensive playing time despite the fact Philly is depleted at safety. Collins would fill the Eagles’ biggest need. I also considered Damon Harrison because he’s dominant and the Eagles are getting nothing out of their defensive tackles not named Fletcher Cox. Sterling Shepard would also help an Eagles wide receiving corps that’s not giving the team a ton right now.

Mason Foster Jersey , I had a little dream about my Redskins; and this is how it went...Daniel Snyder, under immense public pressure, and seeing his ROI slowly fading away, decided to put the team up for sale. The Joe Gibbs Group, comprised of - yeah, you guessed it, and some other prominent investors (including Joe Theismann), wins the bid to buy the team and Joe becomes majority owner or your very own WASHINGTON REDSKINS!The first announcement Gibbs makes in his opening press conference is that he is changing the name, but keeping the tradition of the team. His reasoning - he wants this to be a team for the people, and no name can ever take away the past accomplishments of this great franchise, but he also wants to be an owner who can just focus on winning football...without all the other distractions. The new team name will be the Washington Warriors, and the colors will remain Burgundy and Gold. There will be some changes to the uniform, including going back to the 70th Anniversary Spear helmet and jersey with the gold pants (the same jersey in white will be worn as an alternate jersey). The next order of business for Gibbs is to relieve Bruce Allen of his duties with the team, and appoint Eric Schaffer as the new team president. After Schaffer is formally announced, Gibbs and his new president begin a search to find a General Manager. The search is long, deliberate and detailed, but finally the brass convince Louis Riddick to take the position, with the understanding that he will hire a new coach, and will have power over all personnel decisions. The day after Riddick’s introductory press conference Cheap Alex Smith Jersey , all the coaches on the current staff (with the exception of Jim Tomsula) are relieved of their duties. The new staff:Gibbs, Riddick and Schaffer work diligently on finding a new head coach to lead this team into the future. After many interviews, they settle on a guy Riddick is very familiar with - Josh McDaniels. In McDaniels, the Redskins get a disciple of the great Bill Belichick - schooled in his ways of discipline, accountability and perfection on both sides of the football. McDaniels brings Patriots current linebacker coach Brian Flores with him to D.C. to serve as his defensive coordinator/assistant HC. He selects Rams current quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor to be his offensive coordinator. Josh keeps Jim Tomsula as his defensive line coach. Free Agency:The new-look Redskins find out shortly after McDaniels is hired that Alex Smith will be announcing his retirement from professional football.  Of The Redskins Season? The Fourth Quarter OpponentsWeek 14: New York GiantsWeek 15: @ Jacksonville Jaguars Week 16: @ Tennessee TitansWeek 17: Philadelphia EaglesThe Redskins will kick off the last leg of the season with another divisional matchup hosting the Giants. Hopefully Youth Chase Roullier Jersey , the second meeting between the two teams will result in a Redskins victory. In an earlier article in the series I mentioned how the Redskins defense will have to be up to the task to contain not only Saquon Barkley but also Odell Beckham, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepherd. The pass rush and energy of the team specifically the defense will have to show up here to avoid an embarrassing outing. The Redskins travel south the week after for another tough matchup. This one features a potential Super Bowl contender and top defense. Despite where the team is at this point during the season playing the Jaguars tough and even having the possibility of upsetting them would be a statement. The Redskin offense is going to have their hands full in this one. If he’s healthy Josh Doctson having success against the Jacksonville corners would mark a potential breakout for him. The Jaguars DL is ferocious and deep so I hope the Redskins offensive line is still healthy. The Redskins have a chance at an upset only if they can take advantage of Bortles and contain Fournette. The key here will be to force turnovers and convert them into points. Can the Redskins do it ?The Redskins are on the road again the week after against the Titans who may very well be competing for a wild card spot in the AFC South. This is a game the Redskins can win and I hope Alex Smith is hungry for revenge after the Titans ended his playoff hopes last year. The Titans have a solid defense and one of the best young safeties in the league but there are some positional weaknesses the Redskins can take advantage of. If the Redskins can rush the ball and get some significant and effective interior OL blocking they can take advantage of the Titans ILB unit which features rookie Rashaan Evans. They can also look to challenge the cornerbacks specifically Adoree Jackson who is still learning and catching up with his coverage responsibilities. The Redskins defense will again face a bruising methodical runner in Derrick Henry and will have to again slow him down for the entirety of the game. The secondary will have to remain sharp as well especially against Delanie Walker and Corey Davis who is looking to have a breakout second season. I think this is arguably the most critical game for the Skins to win during this run. The Redskins end the regular season by hosting the Eagles at home. It would be great is somehow a Redskins win would knock the Eagles out of the playoffs and get the Redskins in but the Eagles will probably be resting their starters this game. If so the Redskins need to play hard all the way to the end - something that seems to have been lacking recently - this is a game they should win given that scenario.Redskins Vs. Patriots - Studs and Duds Colt McCoy - McCoy was accurate and looked in complete command of a simplified offense. He was 13/18 for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Maurice Harris - Harris ran good routes, caught everything thrown his way (including a 4 yard TD), and even showed some punt return ability.Robert Davis - Had 3 receptions for 35 yards and showed excellent RAC ability and good speed in limited action. Cam Sims - Sims did not catch a ton of passes in college, but he showed the ability Thursday night to beat coverage Shawn Lauvao Jersey , and was dangerous after the catch. he hauled in a beautiful long pass in the second quarter which he made some nice moves and took it down to the three yard line. Byron Marshall - Not a ton of touches, but he shows how explosive he can be as a receiver out of the backfield. he had a nice touchdown catch where he broke a tackle and beat the defender to the endzone. Samaje Perine - Looked quick and powerful, especially on some plays that were not blocked extremely well. One nice run was brought back on yet another Kalis penalty. He did have a fumble in traffic though, that was not called. Matt Ioannidis - Ioannidis was a beast in limited action last night against the Patriots. He couldn’t be blocked one-on-one, and was even a menace when he was double teamed. Shaun Dion Hamilton - Had some splash plays, but also made some rookie mistakes. One thing that stood out though - this kid is very athletic. He’s not afraid to fill a hole. He did get de-cleated by Hill on a blitz Authentic Deshazor Everett Jersey , and dropped his head at the goalline and missed a tackle that could have saved a TD.Besides that, he showed out in both run support and coverage. This kids going to be good! Danny Johnson - I thought the rookie from Southern played very well, albeit against a pretty bland Patriots offense. He showed to be very active in coverage, making plays a few passes, and was not afraid to stick his head in the middle of the action to make a tackle, or come up to set an edge. Kenny Ladler - This kid is not afraid to come up and hit you! He looks like he was shot out of a cannon! Good game by the former Canadian star. Duds:Kyle Kalis - Three penalties and some inside pressures given up - not a good night at all for the backup guard fighting for a roster spot. Tyler Catalina - gave up two pressures Youth Montae Nicholson Jersey , and was not effective in the run game as a blocker. Geron Christian - Christian may have some potential for the future, but it was very clear Thursday night that he’s not yet ready for the speed of the NFL game. He struggled mightily when he was asked to block an edge rusher in space.John Kling - Sorry, but Kling is NOT an NFL offense tackle. He looked horrible, with extremely slow feet, against the Patriots reserves. Elijah Wellman - I counted at least three missed blocks - one on what should have been an easy blitz pick-up in the first quarter if he worked inside out like he’s taught. He also was called for holding on Guices’ long run. He did have a few catches out of the backfield, but it looks like our dream of keeping a true fullback may not happen. Ondre Pipkins - Just a HORRIBLE showing by Pipkins. He was unable to hold his ground in the run game. I counted a few times where he was driven 5 yards down field. It’s completely unacceptable to get driven 10 yards off the ball on third and short when the play in coming right at you! Fall the heck down...or something!Deshazor Everett - He did not play a ton in this game Cheap Josh Doctson Jersey , but I counted two missed tackles where he seemed to just drop his head and lose sight of his target. Not a good showing for the veteran. Fish Smithson - Had a few missed tackles, and generally looked lost in coverage. It seemed to be easy to manipulate his position in coverage with a simple shoulder shrug. Notes:Zach Vigil - Maybe he’s just playing by the new rules, but I noticed a bunch of times he went low (and I mean VERY low - like around the ankles) on ball carriers, allowing them to fall forward for extra yards. Troy Apke - Had a nice pass defended from his deep safety position late in the second quarter on a 3rd down and long. He showed willingness in run support, with some ups and downs in tackling. Rob Kelley - It does look like the off-season weight loss paid off, as he looks much quicker this year.Matt Flanagan - He looked like the better option if the team does decide to keep a FB/H-Back.Casey Dunn - I thought Dunn played pretty well in reserve duty at center. he anchors very well when he gets his hands inside a defender. Jerod Fernandez - made some nice tackles Jamison Crowder Jersey , but also missed a few in space. You can see he’s more of a box player, as he looks very limited when matched up in space against a quicker player. Tim Settle - had some splash plays where he looked quicker than any player on the field at the snap of the ball. Then he had some plays where it looked like he was just going through the motions out there. Boy, you can see the potential though! He’ll need to be rotated quite frequently to keep him fresh. He did have a fumble recovery late in the game as well. Custom Los Angeles Rams Jerseys

Yeah, Steelers Nation had a moment of collective panic when Ben Roethlisberger was lying down of the ground and looked to have a right shoulder injury. As he would only exit for one play, a 2nd and 20 would face the 2nd year man Josh Dobbs, who was getting his first NFL snap which was not taking a knee. Note, Dobbs had no time to warm up, so he was coming onto the field completely cold. Now, that does not mean that his arm is not warmed up, because while that is in fact true, his mental state as a whole is not warmed up. His processing will not be up to par and the mental aspect of a defense to a backup QB can be rather disorienting once he is thrown straight into a game, especially when he is as young as Dobbs. Then, you add on the stakes of the game. The Steelers are leading by only seven points and are backed up inside their own five in the fourth quarter. So Cheap Antonio Brown Jersey , this is a huge play to call Dobbs in on and expect him to make a play, and yet, the young QB from Tennessee made the biggest play of the game. Here it is, the mastery of this play by Dobbs. The kid with ice in his veins and the play that very possibly won the Steelers win the game. Right after the play, you felt the atmosphere change.I like the look here. With JuJu Smith-Schuster as the split end (on the line of scrimmage) and Antonio Brown as the flanker (off the line) it immediately will give the Steelers numerous options. They can run a rub route and get a chunk play here, that is one very serious idea. They can run a smash concept and try to hit JuJu on the outside, but it seems likely the Ravens will be in zone with safeties over top and patrolling, so it is not a great call. You can flex AB out more and turn it into a seam and post combination, which could actually work. Or, there is the play action idea here. Play fake the ball, get the defense off guard and run zone killers like posts, crossers, and seams. That is what the Steelers end up doing. From a schematic standpoint, you, as an offensive coordinator / QB want to always create mismatches. That is obviously how you exploit a defense even if they are as good as the Ravens. So, it is up to Fichtner to make a call here. He either goes with a run to Conner or with this play action per comments after the game. Fichtner made the gutsy call, but this is a fantastic job of pre-snap processing by Dobbs. As you can see, he motions Jesse James to get a feel for this coverage. After seeing Kenny Young not follow Jesse James, it became clear that it was not man coverage. Not only that Authentic Artie Burns Jersey , but with it, Dobbs gets his extra blocker on the right side. Dobbs sees blitz and he is right all the way. The heavy set to the right is no mistake by the Ravens, it is a clear indication of a twist and that is exactly what Suggs and Williams do. With the Ravens being in nickel here and Levine clearly being a blitzer, Dobbs knows the middle of the field will be open. He just has to fit this in between the cover 3 and CJ Mosley. How does Dobbs know it’s cover 3? Notice how far back Jimmy Smith is. It could be off-man, but he ruled that out once James motioned over. Check out Smith’s outside hip and foot. It is motioned towards the back sideline, meaning he is getting ready for a prime backpedal to get into his third of the field. It is certainly a modified cover 3 with five blitzing, but Baltimore doesn’t care about the flat, so this is just situational scheming. Thus, Dobbs knows run won’t work here unless he gets a perfect seal. And with the right CBs playing a bit farther down, it is rather tough to seal this. I can’t tell you what the run would have been, but I am guessing a power to the right. That would have gotten maybe five yards here with the Ravens’ alignment. So, Dobbs, with big balls in hand, runs the riskiest play he can. He has Washington running a streak, AB on a post, and JuJu on a crosser. On zone with cover 3, Washington is a virtual non-factor, but depending on how the high safety, Weddle , plays this, AB or JuJu are bound to be open. Again, Dobbs literally notices the pressure, the coverage, and figures out his read. Weddle then plays this coverage about as well as you can, but Dobbs fires a frozen rope where only JuJu can corral this ball. This is an elite throw by Dobbs. It is a big boy throw. He has pressure in his face and he cannot step up all the way into this throw, so he shows off incredible arm strength here. That ball placement is straight money, and it was in a rather chaotic pocket with the twist. Dobbs stands in there with calm feet, which was not a trait of his in college, and he steps up to fire that rope.To have the processing coming off the bench, and then to make about as perfect as a throw as you could for your first completion, I applaud Josh Dobbs. This was a franchise QB play. He is very, very smart and clearly knows what is going on. It is only one play, but it would be the play I would point to if I were to show his potential to be a future franchise QB. That does not mean he will be, but I am at the very least comfortable with him being the backup QB. And a far more competent one than Landry Jones. DOBBS SAVED THE GAME!!!  While there will be more than enough column inches devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ issues on defense in the coming days , their problems on special teams are clearly deserving of some attention too. Short punts, penalties and poor coverage cost Pittsburgh field position once again and two missed kicks kept four points off of the board in a game the Steelers lost by five. The struggles of Jordan Berry have been evident to anyone paying attention to his play ever since he entered the league. But it feels as if his steady, annual regression is more obvious in 2018. His preseason wasn’t impressive, earning him some criticism from Mike Tomlin after the game against the Green Bay Packers, and the needle has been pointing downward ever since. Five punts for a gross average of 46.4 yards might not seem horrible on the face of it, but the 31.6-yard net average they yielded absolutely is. When you consider Berry had one great punt on the day for 59 yards with no return that rolled out on the Chiefs 1-yard line, it highlights just how bad the rest of his kicks really were.As much as Berry has had his supporters on social media using flawed logic to defend his errant punts, many in the crowd at Heinz Field were quite vocal in their displeasure after each poor kick.In reality, Berry was far from doing what the coaching staff had told him to do. More likely, his deficiencies as a punter have become so obvious to other teams that they are scheming to take advantage of his mistakes. Former Indianapolis Colts All-Pro and Pro Bowl punter Pat McAfee provided an excellent analysis of the problems Berry is creating for the Steelers with his wayward style, explaining some of the issues perfectly.Warning, in typical McAfee style, this is not safe for family viewing and contains some profanity. Speaking to the media after the game Authentic Chris Boswell Jersey , Tomlin made a point of calling out both of his kickers, but it remains to be seen what changes are made in the coming weeks. The coaching staff had a chance to replace Berry in the preseason, but opted to stick with the incumbent and watch Matt Wile sign the Minnesota Vikings the second he was released instead. This despite Wile outperforming Berry in the few opportunities he was given during preseason. It would be fair to note, however, that Wile has hardly set the world on fire with the Vikings, registering net punts of 36 yards in Week 1 and 36.8 yards in Week 2, compared to Berry’s 37.1 and 31.6 net in respective weeks. For Chris Boswell, a solution to the problem is not so straightforward, and it would be reasonable to question how much of an issue he really has. As consistent as ever throughout the preseason, Boswell has only missed two field goals and an extra point to date in 2018, That being said, those three errant kicks have all proven to be rather significant.A 42-yard field goal in the rain against Cleveland was no gimme, but game-winning kicks are something Steelers Nation became used to with Boswell in 2017. After going nine out of 10 on kicks between 40-49 yards last year and making 35 of 38 field-goal attempts , being anything besides automatic has some fans overreacting. While this is obviously an absurd take for a man one year removed from a Pro Bowl season, Boswell could have won the game in overtime in Week 1, and the kicks he missed against Kansas City effectively changed the complexion of the game in the fourth quarter as the Steelers chased the Chiefs on the scoreboard. Hoping to “kick my way through this,” Boswell at least did his best to address questions from the media after the game, unlike some of his teammates. When the kickers weren’t letting the special teams unit down, the coverage and return teams were. Penalties negated some positive returns, including one by Antonio Brown to near mid-field and a 24-yard kick return by Ryan Switzer. Two drives were forced to start inside the Steelers own 11-yard line thanks to penalties and Tyler Matakevich was personally responsible in one of those instances. But that wasn’t his biggest mistake on the day, which occurred on the final play of the game when a roughing-the-punter penalty cost Pittsburgh a chance to get the ball back with 12 seconds to play. Although no one is suggesting the Steelers would have thrown a Hail Mary to win the game if given the opportunity, it would have been nice to at least have had the chance to try. The coaching staff may consider they’ve got so many issues to work on this week that the concerns about the special teams must take a backseat to the problems on defense, but if these problems persist, changes will need to be made. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan base is angry, and rightfully so, after two straight disappointing seasons. There is a growing contingent of the fan base who wants Mike Tomlin gone Authentic Alejandro Villanueva Jersey , but other than the head coach, the next coach fans want gone is none other than defensive coordinator Keith Butler. But will it happen? As the organization has already cut ties with outside linebacker coach Joey Porter, and running back coach James Saxon, fans want to know when the news will be announced that Butler’s services, like Todd Haley’s last year, will no longer be needed in Pittsburgh. The more time goes by, the less likely it is Butler will be going anywhere. While the simple thought of this taking place makes Steelers fans want to get their torches and pitchforks, it all comes down to loyalty with head coach Mike Tomlin. The connection between Tomlin, Butler and even Randy Fichtner runs extremely deep.Just watch this video:If for some reason you can’t view the video, check it out by clicking HERE.The roots run deep between this trio of Steelers coaches, and it clearly would take a lot to have Tomlin relieve one of them from their duties. Just for clarification, I’m not suggesting the Steelers, or Tomlin Womens Le'Veon Bell Jersey , wouldn’t, or won’t, fire Butler, but with each moment passing where his job is safe, it makes it less and less likely his job is in jeopardy.Another aspect of this entire mess is how Butler does have some statistics to hang his hat on when it comes to meetings with Tomlin and Art Rooney II. The most impressive statistic would be their 52 sacks recorded in 2018. This mark had them tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for tops in the league, and combined with the 56 recorded in 2017, the 108 sacks over a two year span is an astounding mark.Say what you want about Butler, but he knows how to put his players in position to get after the quarterback. The Steelers finishing the regular season 6th in the league in rushing defense, allowing 96.1 yards per game, is another area where Butler’s team didn’t let him down — despite having some gaffes in this area throughout the year.Even the team’s pass defense wasn’t as bad as many might believe. The 10th ranked unit averaged 231 yards per game, making you question the ongoing narrative of how porous the Steelers’ secondary was the past season. But with the good comes the bad, and boy is there a lot of bad when it comes to Butler’s defenses. The 15 total takeaways, 8 interceptions and 7 fumble recoveries Womens Jordan Berry Jersey , was tied for 29th in the league, and a large reason why his unit was never able to get off the field in critical situations throughout the season. On top of that, when the team averages over 20 points per game, it is a sign of the boat leaking some proverbial fluids. Is the Steelers’ defense completely broken? No, but does it need fixing? Absolutely. The majority want Butler gone, and with each passing day the Steelers don’t make a move, the likelihood of Butler staying goes up significantly. Can the Steelers bring back Butler, expecting a different result? Can they bring back Butler and hope he can successfully put together a defense which is known for more than just accumulating sacks? These are questions which are part of a much larger cog. A lot depends on whether the team can add talent via free agency and through the 2019 NFL Draft to complete the cupboard for Butler to work with. Many will suggest adding talent won’t matter, considering what we’ve seen from Butler over the past few seasons, but fans should prepare themselves for Butler to be retained......don’t kill the messenger.  is that almost literally , anything is possible. Today, let’s consider one specific scenario for the San Francisco 49ers: trading the No. 2 pick to a quarterback-hungry team.Let’s start with a couple of assumptions.First, the smallest drop is the best. It will be hard to ever top the Mitchell Trubisky trade, where the Niners got two 3rd round picks and a 4th just to drop one position in the draft, so that Chicago could draft a guy SF didn’t want anyway. But that’s the goal.Second, let’s assume that Arizona does not take a QB with the first pick. Yeah, I know that new Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said last October that he’d pick Kyler Murray first overall if he could. And now he can (if GM Steve Keim agrees.) But when Kingsbury said that, he wasn’t coach of a team that drafted a QB with a top ten pick last year. The odds still favor the Cards taking Nick Bosa, Josh Allen, Quinnen Williams, or Jonah Williams with the top pick. But QBs are the ultimate premium position , and several teams desperately need one. And to our third assumption: there’s not much available on the free agent market. Joe Flacco, Teddy Bridgewater, and Nick Foles are likely to be free agents; ditto Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyrod Taylor. The Jags have been known to make some dumb decisions (Blake Bortles, anyone?) but even they probably won’ttry to rebuild around any of these flawed and aging veterans. So: the Jacksonville Jaguars clearly need a quarterback, and so do the New York Giants, though it’s not clear that they realize it. (Teams might also be tempted to wait a year for Justin Herbert, or two years for Trevor Lawrence, in which case they will need to suck to get a high enough pick. But the Jags and Giants have suffered too long to wait for a potential pick down the road.)With all due respect to Kyler Murray, who stands 5’11”, it’s very unlikely that the Giants would need to trade up for him. There is only one consensus top ten quarterback prospect this year, Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. And that increases his value as trade bait , since the Jaguars can’t hope for an equally good QB to fall to them if New York takes Haskins. They’ll have to move up in the draft, ahead of the Giants. If Arizona does pick Kyler Murray, even better; Jacksonville and New York may feel a panic to get the only good QB left.So what would the Niners receive in exchange for trading down? Based on the draft pick value chart, the second overall pick is extremely valuable at 2,600 points. No. 6 is worth 1,600, and No. 7 is work 1,500, so a trade down would require an additional, 1,000-1 ,100 points of value. What does that mean? Neither the Jaguars or Giants have multiple first or second round picks, and so this could potentially require a 2020 first round pick as well. A first round pick in the next year’s draft is discounted due to the uncertain nature of where it will stack up when that next draft arrives. One team is left wagering on what might come of things for the other team the following season.Or you could ask for players. Would Jacksonville give up an edge rusher such as Calais Campbell, or (dare I dream) Yannick Ngakoue? Telvin Smith, Tashuan Gipson, Malik Jackson and Leonard Fournette are rumored to be on the trading block, too. What about the Giants? Odell Beckham is the big tempting target, already rumored for a trade with the Niners. Other options include WR Sterling Shephard, TE Evan Engram, S Landon Collins or CB Janoris Jenkins. Maybe G Will Hernandez? The big downside of such a deal is that the Niners almost certainly wouldn’t get one of the three dominant defensive linemen with pass rushing potential (Nick Bosa, Josh Allen, or Quinnen Williams) that they desperately need. To fill that edge role Youth Brock Coyle Jersey , if they don’t trade for Campbell or Ngakoue, they might sign a free agent such as Kansas City’s Dee Ford or Detroit’s Ezekiel Ansah. Or they could gamble on a lesser prospect such as Florida’s Jachai Polite or Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell. There are a lot of possibilities, but the No. 2 pick is uniquely valuable. And if Arizona picks someone unexpected, the 49ers might be able to add several draft picks or players and still get a great player at No. 6 or No. 7 — or trade down again for even more picks. The San Francisco 49ers have done it again. And by it I mean it’s another last second blown lead that leads to them losing. This time it wasn’t to the Arizona Cardinals or the Green Bay Packers, but the New York Giants 27-23. The offense has their own share of blame (such as Marquise Goodwin failing to catch a ball) but front and center is the defense. A defense that caused so many issues on the Giants final scoring drive that they should have gotten off the field about four or five times. But those four or five times were negated by penalties which kept the Giants on the field, gave them easy yards and eventually led to them taking the lead. The 49ers desperately need a pass rush. Obviously, officiating was trash on Monday night with a bear hug on Cassius Marsh going unnoticed and flopping making its latest appearance in the NFL on a George Kittle pass interference. But once again things were on the defense and They. Can. Not. Finish. The buck stops with Robert Saleh. Is it his position coaches? Is it his scheme? Is the offense not giving them enough of a breather? This isn’t Aaron Rodgers we’re talking about here, this is Eli Manning, who the 49ers somehow found a way to resuscitate for one night only since he’s spent most of the season on his back. The story going into MNF was if Manning would start given his putrid play. And the 49ers somehow found a way to make him look amazing. Yep, you know what time it is. It’s time to bring back the heat-o-meter: , we hear about the value some teams are getting at the quarterback position. Russell Wilson’s rookie contract was hailed for how it afforded the Seattle Seahawks room to add high priced talent on both sides of the ball. We’ve heard the same thing about Carson Wentz, Dak Prescott, and Jared Goff. The most recent discussion involved this tweet from Albert Breer.Shortly after that tweet, I came across this tweet from a Patriots reporter. Here are the remaining quarterbacks heading into the divisional round based on percentage of the cap, per Chatham:Luck: 13.8%Brees: 13.5%Brady & Rivers (same): 12.4%Foles: 7.6%Goff: 4.3%Mahomes: 2.1%Prescott: .4%This got me thinking about Jimmy Garoppolo. His APY is $27.5 million, so clearly well north of the $20 million figure Breer mentioned. But what about his cap hit as a percentage of the 49ers total cap? For the 2018 year, Garoppolo has a cap hit of $37 million, which is 20.9 percent of the $177.2 million salary cap. However, the 49ers also front-loaded his contract with a huge roster bonus. For the 2019 season, Garoppolo has a cap hit of $19,350,000. The 2019 cap is projected at around $190 million, which means his cap hit would be 10.2 percent of the 2019 salary cap.The 49ers have a ton of cap space, thanks in part to Garoppolo’s cap hit going down in year two. It rises back up over $26 million in year three and remains there, but even still , the continued sizable annual increases in the salary cap suggest the 49ers can avoid cap trouble and still make important additions to the roster. They will probably eventually extend DeForest Buckner, but even with a high-end contract, that seems like something they can manage even with Garoppolo’s deal on the books. It would make things a little tighter eventually having two contracts at or near the top of the line for their position, but they’ve shown discipline and creativity to date in getting deals done.Juice Check: Week 5 vs. Cardinals When injuries mount, football guys say “Next Man Up.” For San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, the Arizona Cardinals game was more like “Last Man Standing.” Besides Jerick McKinnon and Jimmy Garoppolo’s season-ending injuries, Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis were injured-inactive, Matt Breida had to leave after 13 snaps, and backup RB Raheem Mostert came down with a bad case of fumbleitis. That skill-player-deprived offense then had to play 98 snaps, the most for any NFL team in five years, due to the deadly combination of a strong running game and five turnovers. It was an offensive treadmill that never lead anywhere, like one of those dreams where you run and run forever and never get away from the monster (who is Chandler Jones, in this case). The result was a huge game for Juice, who played 68 snaps — a whole game’s worth most weeks, but only 70% of the Niner’s offensive marathon this time. He was targeted seven times , catching six for 75 yards, and even had an ultra-rare run for 12 yards. To top it all off, he shed a blocker and tackled Tre Boston after that safety intercepted a pass. He’ll be at least as needed Monday night against Green Bay, since four key skill players missed practice Friday due to injury: Matt Brieda, Pierre Gar莽on, Dante Pettis, and Trent Taylor (plus McKinnon of course). Star TE Kittle and 3/5 of the offensive line were limited in practice. At this rate, Juszczyk will be the leading receiver AND rusher. To be fair, the versatile FB was clearly a big part of Kyle Shanahan’s screen-heavy opening script, long before the in-game injuries and turnovers changed the tenor of the game. Twice on the first drive, he made an initial feint at a pass protection block, then turned around for a screen — and a big gain. The first play gained 16 yards.Better yet, Shanahancame right back 3 plays later with the exact same play — for 26 yards down to the two-yard line.I’m always amazed at how Shanahan finds a way in every single game to show formations not previously seen during the season. Last Sunday, Juszczyk generally lined up alongside the QB, not behind the tackle as before but in between the tackle and guard , on either side. He also ran a couple of plays where the FB lined up on the right wing or wide right, and then motioned back into I-formation. That’s a new one.Let’s not forget the excellent blocking job that Juszczyk continues to do in the running game. He’s a key reason for these long runs that Breida keeps breaking off, as Juice excels in getting to the second level defender, and Breida has excellent timing to hit the hole his FB just created at the perfect time. A lot of RBs do that on the line — that’s their job — but Juice and Breida are great at doing it a bit further downfield or running outside. On Breida’s first big run, a 17-yard pickup, watch how Juszczyk submarines defensive end Chandler Jones (55) keeping the speedy running back inches away from the DE’s grasp. With the offensive line starting to show run-game dominance, the fullback running a little and Breida working on his receiving, it’s tempting to dream of a healthy Niners squad running a 3-back formation with, say, McKinnon, Breida and Juszczyk — any of whom could run or go deep. Does a defense stay in base, leaving potentially 3 linebackers covering these potential receivers? Or go nickel, and face two explosive runners with a lead fullback? That’s a tough choice. I’d love to see them have to make it.

Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline despite Jay Glazer’s report that the Giants have received some “decent offers” for the star receiver. Beckham , though, was non-committal about whether he wants to stay in New York after yet another Giants loss.“[My name] was tossed around in the offseason, and I’m still here,” Beckham said Sunday, via Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media. “I don’t think I’m going anywhere. This is where I’m at. All I want to do is be the very best that I can be. Off the field. When I’m on the field. It’s really hard to think about that. It is what it is.”Beckham signed a five-year, $94 million extension on Aug. 28 , and the Giants would take a $16 million hit in dead money if they trade him. Thus, Beckham likely remains with the Giants. But does he want to remain with the Giants? Beckham provided only a lukewarm answer to that question.“It’s where I’m at,” he said.Beckham made eight catches for 136 yards in the 20-13 loss to Washington, giving him 61 catches for 785 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.NFC East Roundup: Latest on Cowboys, Eagles, Washington As the first quarter of the season wraps up this weekend , the NFC East remains a tightly-packed division. The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington are both 2-1, while the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are 1-2. There’s no clear class of the division, which means even the smallest things can have a great impact on how the season plays out. So, here’s what’s happening this week with the Giants’ most intimate rivals.Philadelphia EaglesThe Eagles have been awaiting official word on the knee injury suffered by safety Rodney McLeod in Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts. Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Lee Gowton reported late on Wednesday that there was no update pending further testing. On Thursday, Gowton reports that it appears McLeod’s injury is a torn MCL, which will likely end his season. In other Eagles injury news , receiver Alshon Jeffery was cleared for contact this week, though it does not guarantee that he plays on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Running backs Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles were still both sidelined.WashingtonHogs Haven is focusing on Washington’s offense this week. Jamual Forrest provides an offensive progress report through the team’s first three games, while Kennedy Paynter breaks down how that side of the ball performed in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers.Mark Tyler also drills down Washington’s Week 3 performance, identifying the studs and duds of the game. Tight end Jordan Reed and his improved blocking stood out in a good way, while receiver Josh Doctson and his zero catches was among the players who struggled.Dallas CowboysThere are a number of problems in Dallas this season, and one is that the offense cannot consistently move the ball down the field and into the end zone. Blogging the Boys’ RJ Ochoa has found a disturbing trend that further illustrates how ineffective the offense has been this year: The Cowboys haven’t scored a second- or third-quarter touchdown all season.Michael Sisemore takes things a step further and argues that the problem isn’t just Dak Prescott , or any one thing that’s hurting the Cowboys, but rather the entire offense. From the line’s inability to protect, to no clear plan at wide receiver, the quarterback and thus the team are being set up for failure. Meanwhile, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett’s solution at wide receiver is to use a committee approach and to make no changes to the coaching staff at this time.

the New York Giants save their season on Thursday night or doom themselves to yet another losing Womens Riley Dixon Jersey , playoff-less year. The 1-4 Giants face the 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. With no team in the NFC East having more than two victories at this point in the season the last-place Giants still have an opportunity to be competitive in the division.Linebacker Olivier Vernon will play for the Giants tonight, making his season debut after suffering a high ankle sprain in the preseason. Tight end Rhett Ellison [foot] will not, meaning the Giants will be without both Ellison and Evan Engram. [Complete inactives]Use this as your first-half open thread. Chris will be along with a thread for the second half Authentic Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey , as usual.[E-mail Ed at or via the Big Blue View Contact Page | Follow Big Blue View on Twitter | ‘Like’ Big Blue View on Facebook | Follow Big Blue View on Instagram] Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham didn’t shy away from offering a critique of the team’s playcalling against the Eagles in Sunday’s 25-22 loss. The Eagles were shorthanded at cornerback due to injuries to five players who have seen significant playing time this season and Beckham said he “would’ve loved to attack them,” but that wasn’t what the Giants decided to do. On Monday, head coach and offensive playcaller Pat Shurmur called that “one man’s opinion” while defending his approach.“We ran the ball 18 times Womens Sterling Shepard Jersey , we threw it 37,” Shurmur said, via “That is twice as many throws as there were runs. We had seven explosive gains in the passing game. The only team that we played that we had more was Carolina. We had eight. There were many times where we tried to throw to him. The long throw down the right sideline that we had to [tight end] Rhett [Ellison] was designed to go to Odell. They cushioned on him. We threw it to Rhett. You’ll have to ask him to define it after he watches the tape but I felt like we were doing the things necessary to win the game. We still got production in the running game Authentic Evan Engram Jersey , had a couple third-down calls in the red zone that were close. If we get those in, it’s a different story.”It’s not the first time that Beckham has shared his displeasure about the offense this season and Shurmur also came up for criticism about giving star rookie Saquon Barkley just five touches in the second half of Sunday’s loss. Given the fact that Giants were leading 19-11 at the half thanks in large part to Barkley’s efforts, that criticism is coming from more than one man and it may have had more to do with Sunday’s final outcome that Shurmur might like to admit.
