Sixteen years ago, Tim Clark got on a plane for a place hed never heard of before and couldnt find on a map even if he had a GPS. https://www.chicagofootballshop.com/24-Jersey . Hed just won the U.S. Public Links title, graduated from North Carolina State and was embarking on his professional career. He landed in Moncton to play the New Brunswick Open and without the benefit of a practice round, won the tournament. A week later, in London, Ont., again without the benefit of a practice round – this time because hed spent the previous three days celebrating his first win – he did it again, capturing the CPGA Championship. Those two wins jump-started his pro career and so it was appropriate that the South African golfer returned to Canada to notch another victory, the RBC Canadian Open. This time around, he knew how to get to Montreal although the celebration could be similar. "The irony of it, it could be the place of my first win and my last," he said, throwing out a little dark humour perhaps pointing to the looming long putter ban in 2016. "Thats pretty interesting. To come back here, yeah, full circle, thats 16 years ago when I was just cutting my teeth as a professional." It seems as if Clark has learned a lot in that period. He put together a sensational Sunday back nine at Royal Montreal to reel in and pass Jim Furyk to earn the victory. Clark started the day three behind Furyk and was still that many back when they headed for the back nine. But birdies on 11 and 12 got him to within one. Two more birds on the 14th and 15th put him into the lead and standing in the fairway on 18, he was a shot ahead and had the tournament in his hands. However his approach landed 44 feet from the hole and his first putt wasnt really cozy; he left himself a stomach-turning six feet. But when Furyk missed his 12-foot birdie putt, the 38-year-old Clark made no mistake. "That was a big swing there," he said, admitting that he was thinking more of the tournaments hed lost than the ones hed won while standing over his putt. "I didnt want to have to go into the playoff knowing that he can take it over the water (on 18) and I have to play out to the right." Thats right, chalk up one for the short hitters – Clark averaged just 269 yards off the tee (which made clearing the water on the 18th at Royal Montreal impossible). And give another tick mark to the long putter posse. Clark is a card-carrying member of both outfits and a win from either of those groups is becoming rare these days on the PGA Tour. "I didnt quite have it with my golf swing or the putter," Clark said of his opening nine holes, "but making the turn I was still only three back so I was still in the tournament and I knew it looked like Jim wasnt going to make any mistakes so I knew I had to make birdies and sometimes that can be easier when you know you have to be aggressive. At that point, [I had] nothing to lose and like I say, I suddenly just got hot and went with it." Furyks loss marked the 16th time in his career that hes frittered away a 54-hole lead, including the last seven consecutively. He hasnt won since 2010 and at 44, he will likely have fewer and fewer chances. "Im obviously disappointed," he said. "Ive got no one to blame but myself. It was a benign day and 69 is not a bad round by any means, and only making two birdies, I let a couple guys back into the tournament that if they go out there and fire a 66 or 67, its a done deal." Now Clark is a talented player, but hes been a little short on PGA Tour wins. Hes managed to earn $22 million yet this was just his second victory. It took him 206 starts to notch his first win, the Players Championship in 2010, where he also came from three back on the last day. After that he struggled, underwent elbow surgery and missed basically an entire year. And then he had kids and hes also had to worry about what to do with his long putter, which hes used since college. So its not a big surprise that he needed another 78 starts to grab the second victory. But this was a tournament he was exceedingly proud to win, even if he did manage to drop the trophy shortly after it was presented. "Its certainly one Ive wanted to win for a long time," he stated. "Any national open championship to me is special, particularly to those people for their country." That would include his wife, Candice, who happens to be from Toronto originally. Clark knows a thing or two about national opens too. While hes short on PGA Tour wins, he does have a handful of national titles, including his own, the South African Open. And he has a Scottish Open and an Australian Open. Those, of course, go along with that all-important first win, the New Brunswick Open. Full circle indeed. https://www.chicagofootballshop.com/90-Jersey . UEFA said Wednesday that the champions of England and France only have to include five home-trained players in their 21-man squads next season instead of the expected eight. Only one of the five players needs to be trained by the club itself. https://www.chicagofootballshop.com/57-Jersey . Hes the same player he always was, only now his efforts are being rewarded. The rookie manager has made a habit of heaping praise on others when things are going well, and accepting criticism when they arent.  But in the case of Hurtado, its what the coach is NOT saying that may be the secret to a superb run of form.KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Andre Rienzo started playing baseball in Brazil because his mother played softball. He fell in love with it even though all the kids around him were kicking around a soccer ball. On Wednesday night, he may have inspired other youngsters back home to pick up a glove. The White Sox rookie pitched six innings and took advantage of a five-run frame highlighted by Dayan Viciedos grand slam for a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. It gave Rienzo the first win for a pitcher from his South American country where baseball is nary a second thought. "Brazil is just about soccer. Im trying to open doors," explained Rienzo, whose brothers also play baseball back home. "Its all soccer, soccer, soccer. I hope that I will open doors and people will see more guys playing baseball." Rienzo (1-0) allowed only a sacrifice fly to Mike Moustakas while slicing through a scuffling Royals lineup. The right-hander allowed just five hits and two walks in helping the White Sox win their season-best fifth straight game. Addison Reed worked the ninth for his second save of the series and 33rd on the year. "Again, its just one of those nights where he battled," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Rienzo, who earned his first career win in his fifth big league start. "He gave up a couple walks but he was able to fight his way out of it, get a groundball when he needed it. Just a good, gutsy job by him. Once you get him that lead, he just kind of worked it." Viciedos grand slam off Jeremy Guthrie (12-10) in the fourth followed an RBI single by Adam Dunn that had given the White Sox the lead. Their five runs in the frame matched the number of runs the Royals woeful offence had mustered in the previous 22 innings. David Lough drove in another run for the Royals in the sixth, but that was all they managed in another lacklustre offensive performance. They finished with six hits on the night. The Royals were shut out by John Danks and the White Sox bullpen in the series opener, and their inability to get anybody home has been the biggest reason theyve lost four straight and seven of their last nine. That calamitous slide has dropped Kansas City from wild-card contention after climbing within four games of the final spot just over a week ago. &"We have just not played well. https://www.chicagofootballshop.com/75-Jersey. Theres no rhyme or reason," designated hitter Billy Butler said. "In 162 games its going to happen. Were in a tough stretch and were just not hitting. Were not getting guys in when we have them in position." On this night, it was Rienzo who took a turn breezing through the Royals. The 25-year-old from Sao Paulo, one of just two Brazilians in the big leagues, didnt allow a hit until back-to-back singles in the fourth. He allowed another in the fifth and two in the sixth. Otherwise, he was basically untouchable -- just as he had been in the minors. After rocketing through two levels last season, Rienzo began catching the eye of White Sox brass at Triple-A Charlotte. He was 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA over his last four starts, including a no-hitter on July 25 -- just before his call-up to the big league team. Rienzos rise hasnt been without controversy, though. He was suspended for 50 games early last season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The smile on his face Wednesday night seemed to indicate that incident is long in the past. "Viciedo hit the grand slam. The defence played great. Im glad," Rienzo said. Guthrie wasnt feeling nearly as pleased in the Kansas City clubhouse. He threw 72 of 100 pitches for strikes, an exceptionally high rate, but couldnt get many hitters to miss them. After winning four straight, hes been savagely roughed up in his last three starts. He gave up five runs on 10 hits in a loss to Boston a couple weeks ago, and four runs on a career-high 13 hits at Detroit in another defeat his last time out. "I dug myself into a big hole," Guthrie said. "I made mistakes tonight." NOTES: Viciedo finished with three hits for Chicago. ... BERLIN -- Klaas Jan Huntelaar scored twice as Schalke moved provisionally third in the Bundesliga with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Augsburg on Friday. https://www.detroitfootballshop.com/57-Jersey . The home side capitalized on a mistake from Schalkes Tim Hoogland to score in the fifth minute. Tobias Werner ran onto his weak back header, took the ball on his chest and dispatched it inside the far post with his next touch. Huntelaar equalized on a rebound in the 33rd. Augsburg captain Daniel Baier lost the ball and Julian Draxler back-heeled it to Kevin-Prince Boateng, who tried his luck from 22 metres (yards). Alexander Manninger saved but spilled the ball. "The Hunter was there where he should be," Boateng said. Sead Kolasinac crossed for Huntelaars second in the 49th. It was his fifth goal in two Bundesliga games, and a league-leading seventh since the winter break. "It was a difficult game for us," the in-form Dutchman said. "We werent in it in the beginning. Too many individual mistakes. We really had to fight to get into the game. Thankfully we got the goals but we could have conceded at the end too." Augsburg finished the game in the ascendancy but the visitors hung on to move within a point of bitter rival Borussia Dortmund. Schalke moved three points clear of Bayer Leverkusen, which visits runaway leader Bayern Munich on Saturday, while Augsburg stays sixth for now. Schalke visits Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, faced with the seemingly impossible task of overturning the 6-1 defeat from the sides first-leg of their round-of-16 tie. "Itll be difficult to progress but were not going just for the sightseeing," Boateng said. https://www.detroitfootballshop.com/67-Jersey . Rob Klinkhammer and Mikkel Boedker scored 63 seconds apart in the first period for the Coyotes, who handed the Kings their third straight loss and took over sole possession of eighth place in the Western Conference. LONDON -- Canadian Vasek Pospisil and American partner Jack Sock earned a berth in the Wimbledon mens doubles final Friday with a 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-4 upset victory over Indias Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic. Pospisil, from Vancouver, and Sock will compete for the title against defending champions and top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States, who defeated the 12th-seeded French duo of Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2. Pospisil and Sock are playing together for the first time and may have surprised even themselves with their progress. The fifth-seeded Paes and Stepanek had beaten Torontos Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia in the quarter-finals a day earlier. It has been a breakthrough tourrnament for several Canadian players at the All England Club. https://www.detroitfootballshop.com/3-Jersey. Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., was scheduled to play Roger Federer in the mens singles semifinal later Friday. Eugenie Bouchard from Westmount, Que., will play the womens final on Saturday against 2011 champion Petra Kvitova. Nestor and French partner Kristina Mladenovic, the defending mixed doubles champions, have reached the semifinal and will next play Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Hao-Ching Chan of Taiwan. The Bryans did not reach the final at any of the last three Grand Slam tournaments -- after winning four major titles in a row before that. Left-hander Bob and right-hander Mike have a record 15 Grand Slam doubles titles, including three at Wimbledon. ' ' '
SAO PAULO, Brazil -- FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke is giving Brazilian organizers only a few more weeks to show that the stadium in Curitiba will be ready in time for the World Cup. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/15-Jersey . Valcke showed real concern about the pace of construction at the Arena da Baixada after visiting the southern city on Tuesday, saying that work there is more than late. He said he believes the stadium will make it, but declined to guarantee it will be part of the tournament that begins in June. Valcke said local organizers have until Feb. 18 to demonstrate that the work can be completed in time. "What we are expecting is that these technicians will work from now up to the 18th of February and by the 18th of February they will say, OK, guys, its fine," Valcke said. Most of the delay at the venue, which was about 90 per cent completed, was blamed on difficulties getting the needed funding for the construction. The stadium is being built mainly by local club Atletico Paranaense. "For the time being, I trust that the decisions that have been made today will give us Curitiba as one of the host cities," Valcke told a news conference. "It will be a difficult birth, but at the end we will have a baby." Brazils deputy sports minister Luis Fernandes said that after Tuesdays visit it was clear something had to be done to guarantee Curitiba as a host city. "With the current pace of construction, the stadium would not be ready in time," Fernandes said, adding that more workers are expected to be added to the construction site to try to get the venue ready. The trip to Curitiba was not originally scheduled for this weeks inspection tour by FIFA, but footballs governing body added a stop there after receiving the latest construction report from local organizers. Valcke was initially expected to go to the jungle city of Manaus. The Arena da Baixada was the most delayed among the six that still have to be delivered for the World Cup. FIFAs inspection tour began on Monday in Sao Paulo, with Valcke visiting the Itaquerao stadium, where a crane collapse late last year killed two workers and caused significant delays in construction. The Itaquerao, which will host the World Cup opener between Brazil and Croatia on June 12, is expected to be ready in mid-April. On Wednesday, the Arena das Dunas in the northeastern city of Natal will be the latest stadium to be delivered. Valcke will be there for the inauguration ceremony along with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. Brazil promised to deliver all 12 by the end of 2013 but only the six that were used during last years Confederations Cup were ready. Four of those had missed their initial completion deadline of the end of 2012. The Arena da Baixada is due to host four World Cup matches, all in the group stage. The first is Iran vs. Nigeria on June. 16. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/23-Jersey . Kevin Martin and Kevin Love paced the Timberwolves like they do so often. Martin had 27 points with some key baskets down the stretch, Love had his usual double-double, and the Timberwolves snapped a three-game losing streak with a 112-106 victory Saturday night over the suddenly slipping Dallas Mavericks. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/43-Jersey . Both of Padakins goals came in the second period while Zane Jones added a single in the first period for Calgary (13-6-4). Hitmen goaltender Chris Driedger finished with 30 saves for the shutout.PHILADELPHIA -- The crowd greeted Jrue Holiday with a warm ovation in the All-Stars first trip back to Philadelphia since the 76ers traded him to the Pelicans over the summer. Holiday returned the favour by putting on a show with 20 points and 13 assists, leading New Orleans to a 121-105 victory on Friday night. "Its fun being back and the crowd showing me a little bit of love," Holiday said. "I didnt hear too many boos, so thats a little surprising, but definitely a good thing. "Just cause its Philly, anything can happen, especially with the boos. You just never know. Im glad it was a good quote-unquote welcome back." Eric Gordon scored 26 points and Holiday added seven rebounds as the Pelicans (7-8) snapped a four-game road skid. Holiday, an All-Star last season for the Sixers, was sent to New Orleans in a deal that netted Philadelphia No. 6 overall pick Nerlens Noel and a future first-rounder. "Its great Jrue did well," said Sixers forward Evan Turner, a teammate of Holidays for three seasons. "Obviously we wanted a win. A guy like Jrue, you want him on your side, but once again, I wish nothing but success for him and for him to keep growing as he is." Tony Wroten scored 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting off the bench, and Spencer Hawes contributed 12 points and nine boards for the 76ers (6-11). Wroten (lower back) and Hawes (knee) both played for the first time in three games, but Philadelphia lost for the ninth time in its last 11. "Theyre a good team," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. "Theyre a hard team for us to guard. I think at times when we tried to extend the defence and press, they went through it and they had success at the back end, even when we went through the press." Missed opportunities plagued the Sixers. On one possession in the third quarter, James Anderson missed three straight open 3-pointers after Thaddeus Young grabbed consecutive offensive rebounds. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/85-Jersey. After the third miss, Young pulled down another offensive board and drew a foul going back up, but he missed both free throws. The Sixers were a miserable 9 for 21 (43 per cent) at the free throw line. Conversely, the Pelicans were 11 for 14 (79 per cent) on free throws. "We still gave up 105 points," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "From my standpoint, you give up 30 points in the first quarter, theres a lot to be desired. But it is a lineup that can cause problems, we just have to learn how to defend and share the ball better." New Orleans took a 12-point lead late in the second quarter on Anthony Davis fast-break layup after a steal by Holiday to cap off a 15-2 run. The Sixers responded with a pair of 3-pointers and an 8-2 run of their own to end the half down 61-55. Gordon and Ryan Anderson led the Pelicans at the break with 11 points apiece. Turner also had 11, including three of the Sixers nine first-half 3-pointers. They went cold in the second half, making just three from beyond the arc. New Orleans shot 55 per cent from the field, including 8 for 20 (40 per cent) on 3-pointers. Just two weeks ago, the Pelicans clobbered the Sixers in a 135-98 affair in New Orleans. Fridays game marked the final of two meetings between the clubs this season. "Im gonna be for real, Im glad we beat em twice," Holiday said. "Obviously its good to see old teammates, its great to come back here and feel the love from the fans, but it feels good to beat them." NOTES: The Sixers allowed their opponent triple-digit points for the 15th time in 17 games. ... Hawes double-double streak ended at three games. ... Sunday, the Sixers face the Pistons in Detroit and the Pelicans play the Knicks in New York. ' ' '
One day after being designated as the teams transition player for next season, linebacker Jason Worilds has signed on. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/62-Jersey . According to a report from CBS Sports, Worilds signed his tranisition tag, locking him into the Steelers for next season before teams could sign the former second round draft pick to an offer sheet. The Montreal Canadiens return home to the Bell Centre to face the Carolina Hurricanes for the second straight night. https://www.lasvegasfootballshop.com/75-Jersey . The Habs, who beat the Hurricanes 6-0 Friday night at the Colisee Pepsi in Quebec City, have decided to keep some of their young players in the lineup once again. Jarred Tinordi, Greg Pateryn, Michael McCarron, Magnus Nygren, Sebastian Collberg, Michael Bournival, Christian Thomas and Darren Dietz are among the prospects head coach Michel Therrien decided to dress for a second consecutive night. Veteran players likes Tomas Plekanec, Rene Bourque and Andrei Markov will make their first appearance this pre-season. "I think the coaching staff wanted to wait a little longer to play us older guys so they can have a better look at the younger players," Bourque said after taking part in the Habs morning skate. Travis Moens name has been added to the injured list after missing practice for the second time on Saturday. The Canadiens confirmed that Moen is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Francis Bouillon rejoined his team Saturday morning after missing Thursdays practice with a lower-body injury as well. https://www.lasvegasfootballshop.com/85-Jersey . "Im not doing enough to help them," Durant told The Oklahoman on Monday of his 28-9 team. "Im shooting too much. Im shooting too many threes. "Ill probably drink one and go to sleep," the Australian veteran said. The two players set up a Sunday showdown between former HSBC champions after finishing off their third rounds with identical birdies over three of the last five holes Saturday to separate themselves slightly from the rest of the crowded leaderboard. Angus Reid is at peace with the most difficult football decision hes ever had to make. The B.C. Lions veteran centre announced his retirement Friday, ending a 13-year CFL career. "As an athlete you know this day will always come but you never want to think about it and never want to know its real so youre forced with facing that reality," Reid said. "But Im good with it because it was my decision and most athletes dont get that opportunity, their careers end because of various factors out of their control. "Sure, in the youthful part of my mind Id love to play football forever but I know I cant give the game what Id want to give it in terms of what I have left physically and I wouldnt be happy with that. I have nothing but happy memories and theres nothing more I couldve achieved. I think I over-achieved and Im proud of what I was able to get done in this sport." The six-foot-one, 305-pound Reid appeared in over 200 regular-season games, 11 playoff contests and three Grey Cups with the Lions (winning two). Heady stuff indeed, considering the inauspicious start to his pro career. The 37-year-old native of Richmond, B.C., was selected fourth overall in the 01 CFL draft by the Toronto Argonauts. However, the former Simon Fraser star was released during training camp and spent time on the Montreal Alouettes practice roster before being dealt to B.C. later that year. "I vividly remember that first year after getting home to the Lions saying, Wow, I guess this is probably it. Im a journeyman after one season. This is not what I planned," Reid said. "But true to my character and who I am I just sort of kept focusing on what I could do, kept working and didnt let what was happening dictate what I was going to do. "I think Im a pretty good example that continuous hard work does pay off. Life is going to be up and down and its going to be a bumpy road but you just have to stay on that roller-coaster longer because most of us want to get off when it gets rough. I just stayed on and it worked out well." Reid was a West Division all-star on three occasions and he earned league honours in 2011. He was also actively involved in community events. "Few players have made the kind of impression both on and off the field as a member of the B.C. Lions that Angus has during his career," Lions general manager Wally Buono said in a statement. "He was an incredibly durable player, a tremendous leader in our dressing room and he will be missed by everyone in our organization." Former CFL players Doug Brown and Bryan Chiu took to Twitter to offer their congratulations to Reid. "Throughout college & the pros, there arent many Ive lined up against that I respected more," tweeted Brown, a native of New Westminster, B.C., who was a standout defensive tackle with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. "Congrats on ur retirement." Added Chiu, a Vancouver native who played centre for the Montreal Alouetttes: "Congrats on a great career. https://www.lasvegasfootballshop.com/80-Jersey. . Proud of you bro. Who wouldve thought we would both be centers in the CFL back at @vcrfootball." But Reid definitely saw the signs it was time to retire, most notably missing last season after undergoing major back surgery. "That was a wakeup call to me saying Im 37 now, not 27," Reid said. "Theres going to be life after football whether you like it or not and you want to be as healthy as you can so you can do other things in life and still have a lot of enjoyment and fun. "I have a wife and were trying to start a family and you have to look forward to more things." And then there was the realization that many of Reids former Lions teammates had long since moved on. "Half the guys I played with are my coaches now and you look around and say, Did I not get the memo," Reid said with a chuckle. "The good thing is I have no regrets looking back. "Im not leaving anything on the table. In that regard I dont want to say it was an easier decision but it gives me comfort that I can leave looking back with really proud, happy memories of my time in this sport." Especially with the majority of those memories having come at home. "There was some luck involved, obviously, that I got to play my career in B.C.," he said. "I grew up going to Lions games, my brother, Mark, was a long-snapper with the Lions in 1990 so I looked at it as a kid thinking, This would be amazing to do. "Well, I actually got to do it in the stadium I grew up going to watch games in. You really couldnt write a better career in terms of happiness, to be able to do it with your parents and family being able to come to almost every single game. You dream of a career like that and no matter how good it is it often doesnt come as close to what you would envision as a youth but mine really did and Im thankful and proud of that." As for what lies ahead, all Reid knows for sure is he wont be suiting up for the Lions in 2014. "Thats a good question, thats what Im trying to figure out right now," he said. "I did a pretty good job during my career of building bridges and good networks of people and so I do have a lot of opportunities. "However, Im trying to be careful to not to rush into the first opportunity, Im trying to look at them all." Reid has thought about a few different options when it comes to his future. "Id love to stay involved in the sport in some way but the probability of being a coach is slim right now," he said. "I think Id like to stay involved maybe in the sports media, be it TV, radio, newspapers. "But I have a feeling Ill also be doing other things in the business community. Im a Vancouver guy, this is where Ill be. Ill be busy, probably busier than I was when I played and went to work every day, put on sweats and ran around for a few hours. Now Ill probably be all over the place." ' ' '
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/48-Jersey . - The Vancouver Whitecaps hadnt experienced a loss in over two months before falling to the Colorado Rapids 2-0 on Saturday. Dillon Powers and Vicente Sanchez both scored in the first half as the Rapids snapped the Whitecaps (5-3-7) franchise-best unbeaten streak at eight matches. But as head coach Carl Robinson saw it, it wasnt that big of a deal. "Weve lost one in nine," Robinson said. "I wont get carried away." Despite the loss, Vancouver had reason to celebrate as Whitecaps Mehdi Ballouchy, Steven Beitashour and Nigel Reo-Coker all made their returns after various lengths of absences. Ballouchy played 20 minutes in his first game in nearly 11 months since tearing his right ACL last season. He tore his left ACL two years ago, and played only five games for the San Jose Earthquake before the most recent injury. "Its been a long time," Ballouchy said. "When you do an ACL, you come back, and you do it again, these are long-term injuries. A lot of players dont come back. Its been a steep, steep hill and Im happy to be playing again." Reo-Coker was back in action after missing Wednesdays scoreless draw against Montreal to be in New York for the birth of his first child, while Beitashour was back after a long trek back from Brazil, where he played for Irans national team in the World Cup pool play. Vancouver hadnt lost since falling to Los Angeles 1-0 on April 19. It was the second of a brief two-game losing streak that started with a home loss to Colorado a week earlier. "Weve lost three games out of 15. Its not bad," said Reo-Coker. "Every team has spells like this — even the top teams. Were going through it now. We have so much belief and confidence in this team that were going to bounce back. Its a sign and test of how good we are." Reo-Coker said the birth of his daughter Scarlet changed his life "completely." "Its fantastic," he said. "Its something you cant put into words until you go through." He had a less memorable moment late in the first half when he fouled Sanchez in the box, leading to a penalty kick. Sanchez easily beat goalie David Ousted in the 36th minute to give the Rapids their second goal. "It was just miscommunication between David and myself," Reo-Coker said. "I saw David coming out and we kind of hesitated amongst each other, no one really took command of the full situation." Robinson had no issue with the call. "Second goal, it was a blatant penalty," he said. Powers hit the bar in the 17th minute and put a shot through the legs of a Vancouver defender three minutes later to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. The Rapids had another chance in the 27th minute, but were turned away by Ousted. Vancouver had two solid chances in the second half but Pedro Morales put a shot wide in the 63rd minute and Johnny Leversons laser in the 77th minute was saved by Clint Irwin. Colorado had 19 shots overall to Vancouvers five. "Were going to win games where we dont deserve to and were going to lose games we deserve to win," Robinson said. "Tonight we got what we deserved." Robinson didnt play Beitashour, opting instead to give him a rest after a long period of travel. "Beitas had three flights and in total its probably 16 hours of flying," Robinson said. Forsman closed with a 3-under 69 in windy conditions Sunday for his third Champions Tour title. He beat Jay Don Blake by two shots.SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants needed four innings to figure out Cleveland starter Zach McAllister. Hunter Pence hit a two-run single in San Franciscos four-run fifth, leading the Giants to a 5-3 victory over the Indians on Saturday. "That one inning, it just got contagious," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. McAllister (3-1) retired 12 in a row before Michael Morse led off the fifth with a single to centre. Morse advanced to third on Brandon Crawfords one-out single and scored on Gregor Blancos pinch-hit single that came on a first-pitch fastball. "Coming off the bench, its not that easy to do," Blanco said. "In that situation to get a pinch hit and drive one in ... you just got to be aggressive." Angel Pagan had a sacrifice fly before Pences two-out hit gave the Giants a 4-3 lead. McAllister left after Brandon Belt struck out to end the inning. He allowed five hits, struck out six and walked one after winning his previous three starts. Buster Posey added a solo homer in the sixth as San Francisco earned its third consecutive win. Posey, who won the NL MVP award in 2012, went 1 for 3 and is batting .103 (4 for 39) over his last 13 games. "I was happy for Buster," Bochy said. "You go through these tough streaks and its not easy." Giants starter Tim Lincecum lasted just 4 2-3 innings, but managed to lower his ERA to 5.96. He was charged with three runs, two earned, and nine hits. "We did a really good job of making (Lincecum) work," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said. "We just werent able to get that one more hit to tack on." Lincecum has pitched just 25 2-3 innings in five starts in his first season since he signed a $35 million, two-year contract over the winter. "I had my game plan. I just wasnt executing it," Lincecum said. "That kind of exacerbated the feeling of hopelessness, I guess. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/5-Jersey. Well, not hopelessness, but just things arent going right. Fix that tomorrow." But San Francisco continued to get strong work from its bullpen. Juan Gutierrez (1-1), Jean Machi, Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo combined for 4 1-3 hitless innings after Lincecum departed. Romo got three outs for his sixth save in six chances as San Franciscos bullpen lowered its MLB-best home ERA to 0.45 in 11 games. "Very impressive," Bochy said. "They won the game for us today with the job they did." Bochy went out of his way to praise Gutierrez for striking out Yan Gomes with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning. Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and David Murphy had two hits apiece for Cleveland. Jason Kipnis drove in two runs. Cleveland scored in the first, third and fifth to build a 3-0 lead. Kipnis singled in Bourn in the first and drove in Swisher with a grounder in the third. Swisher doubled home Bourn in the fifth. Saturday marked the 257th straight regular-season sellout at AT&T Park, matching the National League record set by the Philadelphia Phillies from July 7, 2009 to Aug. 5, 2012. Calgary finished atop the CFL standings with a 14-4 record and earned the right to host the West Division final at McMahon Stadium on Nov.With the Penguins being one of the highest scoring teams in the league and the Jets a team that surrenders a lot of goals, perhaps the high scoring affair should have been expected. It had been 10 games since the Penguins had given up the first goal of the game at home and eight games since they had trailed 2-0 at home, but that was the case after one with a couple of Jets rookies doing the damage. Jacob Trouba, with his fourth of the year, opened the scoring 1:47 in with assists from Olli Jokinen and Adam Pardy. Pardy was back in after missing the last four games. Sidney Crosby, the NHLs leading scorer, was awarded a penalty shot and a chance to tie the game, but was stopped by Al Montoya. In the final seconds of the period, Mark Scheifele gave the Jets the 2-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season, all of which have come on the road. Assists on the goal went to Evander Kane and Zach Bogosian. Shots in the first period were 11-11. The Penguins got their offence going early in the second on a goal from Evgeni Malkin, his first game back after missing 10 due to injury. James Neal stole the puck from Dustin Byfuglien to start the play and the Pens were on the board at 1:06 of the second. Neal then went to work and scored two in 34 seconds and by the 4:59 mark of the period, the Penguins had the lead at 3-2. Blake Wheeler, with his team leading 16th, evened the game at 6:02. Bryan Little had the lone assist. All was quiet for the next five minutes other than Montoya and Marc-Andre Fleury being busy making saves. At 11:38, Jussi Jokinen put the Pens back in front, but before the high scoring period could end, Evander Kane scored two goals only 2:11 apart to regain the lead for the Jets. His second of the night, 14th of the year and seventh in the last 11 games came at 19:42. It was 5-4 after two with shots in the second favouring the Jets 13-11. The Penguins started the third with an offensive push, but the Jets weathered the storm for the time being. But another giveaway resulted in Malkins second of the night coming at 8:29. The winner then came at 12:38 off a face-off with a Matt Niskanen shot going off a Jets players stick and in. The Jets had some great chances, but could not beat Fleury. The best opportunity came from close in off the stick of Andrew&nbssp;Ladd, but Fleury made a great save to keep the Pens ahead. https://www.cincinnatifootballshop.com/17-Jersey. . In the final seconds Scheifele had Fleury down, but his shot from close in went over the net. The final shots were 39-34 for the Penguins. The Jets got 11 shots from their defence with Mark Stuart leading the way with four. Jussi Jokinen led all players with eight shots on goal. Kane led the Jets with six. It was Kanes 15th two-goal game of his career. A pair of Jets rookies are on impressive scoring runs. Mark Scheifele has six goals and 11 assists in his last 21 games, while Jacob Trouba has two goals and three assists in his last six games. Blake Wheeler is now tied for second in team points with Byfuglien with 32. Byfuglien has three goals and seven assists in his last 12 games, but was a minus-three on the day. Leading all NHL defencemen in shots, Byfuglien was held to just a pair by the Pens The Jets were held scoreless in three power play opportunities and have not scored on the man advantage in six in a row after scoring nine power play goals in eight games. Eric ODell played his fifth game of the season, but was limited to just 4:25 of ice time. The win for the Penguins was their 12th straight at home, marking a new franchise record. Coach Claude Noel started his post-game news conference by saying that the Jets made“too many mistakes. You have to defend against this team.” The Jets simply give up too many goals and this is not on the goalies. There were far too many grade-A scoring chances against and it was the Jets 25th one-goal game of the season (The team is 10-10-5 in those games.) “We dont protect the lead, we play with it,” continued Noel. “Were one up going into the third, first five or six minutes we are solid, we want to play on our toes, dont sit back and manage every shift. You have to play the right way. There were a lot of break downs in our end. They gave us five, we gave them six. Our plan was not to win the game 7-6.” The Jets now return home, winless on their three-game road trip, to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday (available on TSN Jets and TSN 1290,) the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday afternoon and the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday. It will be an interesting start to the week for players, as the remainder of the Olympic teams will be announced.  ' ' '
OTTAWA -- After a very shaky start to the season, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk is finding his feet. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/92-Jersey . Dubnyk turned aside 35 shots and collected his first win of the season on Saturday as the Oilers downed the Ottawa Senators 3-1 and Edmonton nears the end of a six-game road trip. The win comes after Dubnyks 37-save performance on Thursday was wasted in a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders. "Its nice to get out there and be myself and just worry about playing goal," Dubnyk said after watching his save percentage balloon over the past two games. "It hasnt been an easy start and it was nice the last two games just to relax and go play hockey and know that I can be ready for these guys." Ryan-Nugent Hopkins scored twice, including once into an empty net, and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Oilers (2-6-1), who halted a five-game losing streak. They wrap up the road trip in Montreal against the Canadiens on Tuesday. Chris Neil had the only goal for the Senators (3-3-2) and Robin Lehner made 18 saves in just his second start of the season. The Senators continue to be one of the most penalized teams in the NHL. On Saturday, Ottawa took seven penalties resulting in six power plays for the Oilers, and although none of them cost the Senators a goal, it is a situation that needs to be corrected. "Penalties are not something were going to forget about," said Ottawa captain Jason Spezza, adding that the Oilers took a lot of penalties (six) themselves. "It was a game where both teams were taking penalties and its not like other games where it was lopsided. Well continue to talk about it until we start to take less penalties." Senators forward Milan Michalek was called for goaltender interference when he ran into Dubnyk and teammate Jared Cowen was given an interference penalty as the play continued down into Ottawas end. The Oilers generated only one good scoring opportunity on the ensuing power play as they looked to build on a 2-0 advantage. After the Senators killed off both penalties they were quickly given a power play of their own as Ladislav Smid was called for hooking, but they too were unable to create anything offensively. "It was good to see how calm the guys were after that," Nugent-Hopkins said. "We didnt get too much momentum off (the power play) and obviously not a goal which would have been huge, but we stuck with it and pulled out the two points. Ottawa got on the scoreboard as Neil was credited with his first goal of the season on a shot that looked more like a missed popup than a hockey play. In a scramble at the side of the Oilers goal Neil batted the puck out of midair and it seemed as though Dubnyk tried to catch the puck as it came down, but instead it landed in behind him and then went in. "We said in between periods that it wasnt going to be a pretty one that went in, and thats a prime example of a dirty goal," Neil said. "You go to the net and you get rewarded and we just didnt do enough of that and their goalie was able to see way too much." Edmonton scored on its first shot of the game after the Senators turned the puck over in the offensive zone. Eberle made a nifty to move to get around Spezza and beat Lehner between the legs just 2:15 into the game. A little more than eight minutes later the Oilers struck again, this time after Lehner made a stop but was unable to control the rebound, which went directly to Nugent-Hopkins and then to the back of the net from a sharp angle. It wasnt all good news for the Oilers though, as they lost Taylor Hall in the second period to a left knee injury. After an innocent looking play just inside the Ottawa blue-line Hall turned and hobbled to the bench and directly to the dressing room and did not return. He left following the game with his knee in a brace but without the use of crutches. His immediate condition was not known Notes: Oilers defenceman Denis Grebeshkov made his season debut after missing the first eight games with a groin injuryaJesse Joensuu, Nick Schultz and Ryan Jones were scratches for the Oilers while Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Joe Corvo were scratches for the SenatorsaThe Oilers had lost 39-man games to injury going into the game, compared with just two for the Senators.https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/19-Jersey . Matt Carkner got back into the Ottawa lineup, and made his presence felt right away by settling his clubs score in a one-sided fight with Rangers forward Brian Boyle. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/57-Jersey . Pironkova, who was ranked outside the top 100 despite reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2010, beat three top 10 players in Sydney, 2012 French Open finalist Sara Errani, 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Kerber. EDMONTON -- Bo Levi Mitchell isnt interested in tying or surpassing any personal records. He just wants his team to win. The Stampeders quarterback threw for 124 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night to improve to 7-0 as a CFL starter and help Calgary edge the Edmonton Eskimos 26-22. Rene Paredes nailed four field goals as the Stampeders improved to 4-0 on the season. Mitchell, meanwhile, tied former Stampeder Jeff Garcias league record for best career start. But after the game, Mitchell downplayed the accomplishment. "Its not a record that people even keep track of, Im surprised people even keep it," he said. "Im excited to be undefeated, but Im more excited our team is playing well and that we are undefeated. Ill try to keep that record intact as long as I can, but a loss is going to come at some point." Edmonton was guilty of a couple of major gaffes in the game, including the questionable decision to try and run a fake punt out of the end zone late in the second quarter, a failed effort which led directly to a costly Calgary touchdown. "I was surprised they did that," said Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel. "We were very fortunate to be able to stop that by inches. It was a big play of the game since we scored on the next play. This is the type of game where a head coach has to make decisions to try and help their team win. I went for a third-and-one and was stopped. You have to take those chances and just hope that they are executed. "Were struggling offensively, but we are still winning. We need to get better and hopefully we will get better." The Eskimos dropped to 4-1 on the year, missing out on a chance to surpass the total number of wins they had in a disappointing 4-14 campaign in 2013. "Youd like to win them all, youd like to go 18-0 and then win two more in the playoffs," said Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly, who threw for 212 yards with one TD and one interception. "But the reality is thats not going to happen, so you try to learn from these experiences. "This is a good football team that we played against. Theyve got the best record in the league now, but we also learned that if we do a few things better, we could win that football game." Edmontons defence was forced to come up big early as Eskimos punt returner Jamal Miles coughed up the ball just over a minute into the game on his own 27-yard line. That was as close as Calgary got, however, as they were held to a 36-yard Paredes field goal. The Eskimos came right back on their next possession with a 31-yard Grant Shaw field goal to tie it 3-3. Calgary came up with another big special teams play with six minutes remaining in the first quarter as Keenan MacDougall blocked a Shaw punt deep in the Edmonton zone and was able to pick it up and ramble the remaining six yards into the end zone to put the Stampeders up 10-3. "I kind of went through untouched," MacDougall said. "I had a nice bounce into my hands after a couple of other bounces." Pat White replaced Mike Reilly at quarterback to start the second quarter and instantly drew a pass interference call on an end zonne pass. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/51-Jersey. He would then take it in from the one-yard line to knot the game back up. It was Whites first CFL touchdown. Edmonton looked to have surged in front two minutes later on a 59-yard passing play from Reilly to Fred Stamps, however the play was called back on a holding infraction. The defensive battle continued as Fred Bennett picked off a Reilly pass at the Edmonton 45, eventually leading to a 36-yard Paredes field goal. The Eskimos responded with a 40-yarder from Shaw. Edmonton tried a fake punt with 24 seconds remaining as defensive back Aaron Grymes took off with the ball from his own end zone. It was a costly risk, however, as he was stopped just short of the first down, leading to a 16-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Jeff Fuller and a 20-13 Calgary lead at the half. The Eskimos atoned for the miscue six-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter as they stopped the Stamps on a third down gamble at the Calgary 32-yard line. The next play Reilly was able to pass to a wide-open Shamawd Chambers for the touchdown to tie it once again. Calgary regained the lead in the pouring rain with just over a minute remaining in the third frame on a 29-yard Paredes field goal and then benefited from a bevy of Edmonton penalties to make it 26-20 six minutes into the fourth quarter on a 30-yarder from their kicker. Edmonton had a chance for an easy first down with one-and-a-half minutes down, but instead of driving it the inches necessary, tried a passing play only to see Reilly get sacked to force a punt. Calgary gave up a safety with 44 seconds left to run some time off the clock and put Edmonton on their own 35. The move allowed the Stamps to run out the clock from there. The Stampeders return home to face the B.C. Lions next Friday. Edmonton has a bye week before starting a two-game road swing in Montreal on Aug. 8. Notes: The last time the Eskimos were able to come away with a win against their provincial rivals was on Sept. 5, 2011. Calgary came into the game with eight wins in a row over Edmonton in the head-to-head match-ups. à The Stampeders were without reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player Jon Cornish, who was placed on the six-game injured list with concussion symptoms. à Eskimos linebacker J.C. Sherritt missed his fourth game this season. à Calgary came into the game having allowed just three sacks this season, while Edmontons defence led the league with 18. à The Stamps entered the match-up having surrendered a CFL-low 10 points a game, and just one touchdown, compared to the 14.5 scored against the Eskimos. à Fans were just as interested in the 50/50 draw as they were the game. In their last home game against Ottawa, the jackpot of $71,732 went unclaimed and carried over to the game against Calgary. The potential for a big draw ignited a frenzy, as fans endured long lines to get a crack at the pot, which ended up at an astounding and record-setting $348,534. Because of the heavy demand, the draw couldnt be announced at the game. Instead plans were in place to announce it on the team website. ... The attendance for the game was a league season-high 40,066. ' ' '
It didn’t quite offer up the excitement of last weekend, but week 11 in the NFL was very entertaining as six games were decided by a single score and several went right down to the wire. https://www.arizonafootballshop.com/28-Jersey . It was your typical NFL weekend with outstanding plays, the occasional upset, some key injuries, a record low for kickers across the league and enough intriguing results and headlines to keep us on the edge of our seats. These are just half a dozen key storylines that caught my eye on Sunday night. Cowboys look SuperThe Dallas Cowboys took the Baltimore Ravens best punches and kept on rolling, all the way to a 27-17 win that gave them their club record ninth consecutive victory. Baltimore came in with the NFLs top defence and the Cowboys were undeterred, racking up 417 yards of total offence. Ezekiel Elliott hurdles a Viking... Baltimore made it their mission to shut down Ezekiel Elliott and did a pretty good job of that in a first half in which the teams were tied at 10 apiece. But you can only contain Elliott for so long and he started to get more involved in the second half.Dak Prescott was outstanding as he threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns. He put the team on his back and delivered time and again, looking every inch the composed veteran quarterback. And more good news for the Cowboys is the fact that wide receiver Dez Bryant (six catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns) looks to be inching back to his best. Watch this poor sound guy get destroyed by the Minnesota Vikings! There is a long way to go and plenty of football still to be played, but these Cowboys have the look of a Super Bowl team. They can ride out adversity and continue to produce week in and week out - and that is a confidence thing as much as it is a physical component. The Lions roarDont look now but here come the Detroit Lions looking to win their first NFC North division title since the days when the division went by a completely different name! The last time the Lions won their division it was the NFC Central in 1991, but they are on track after winning five of their last six.The 6-4 Lions enjoyed another typical day at the office in their 26-19 win over Jacksonville - it marked their 10th game this season decided by seven points or fewer. The only difference was that this win came without a touchdown pass from in-form quarterback Matthew Stafford. Wide receiver Andre Roberts scored a 55-yard punt return for the Detroit Lions Detroit scored on a tight end sweep from Eric Ebron, a 55-yard punt return from Andre Roberts and a pick six from Rafael Bush. That shows they can dig deep and win even when their star man does not have his best day at the office.Goff dream turns into nightmareIt never looked close to perfect from Jared Goff on Sunday night as the first overall pick in the 2016 Draft made his debut at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. But it looked more than good enough as the Rams led 10-0 with just over four minutes remaining. But Goff didnt turn out to be the story of this game. That honour goes to an under-fire Ryan Tannehill, who was beaten up behind a make-shift offensive line missing Branden Albert and Mike Pouncey. Highlights of the Miami Dolphins win over the Los Angeles Rams in week 11 of the NFL But Tannehill has renewed belief under the leadership of quarterback-whispering head coach Adam Gase and with some late self-destruction from the Rams in terms of penalties and blown assignments, he led Miami to a fifth straight win with touchdown passes to Jarvis Landry and the impressive DeVante Parker. This may be a bit too simplistic but Ill say it anyway - Miami dont win that game under Joe Philbin, who was fired last year. Gase has lit a fire under this team and Tannehill delivered in a big way with the game on the line. And Goff? It was a definite mixed bag and there were a lot of times when he looked like a fresh-faced rookie - but he also showed enough to make me believe the Rams made the right decision with this move.Wilson back to full fitnessThe Seattle Seahawks looked in control from start to finish during their 26-15 win over Philadelphia and I think they present the biggest challenge to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC run to the Super Bowl. Highlights of the Seattle Seahawks 26-15 win over the Philadelphia Eagles Every NFL game is filled with big moments but one single play would give me great hope for the future if Im a Seahawks fan - Doug Baldwins 15-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Russell Wilson. There is no way the Seahawks run that play and send Wilson sprinting downfield to catch a pass from his wide receiver without him being fully healthy. And he does look back to his very best after early season ankle, knee and pectoral injuries. Russell Wilson hands the ball off and then receives the ball for a TD! That is good news for the Seahawks and great news for all neutrals who love watching Wilson shine as a passer, a runner and now a receiver. The missing menThe Cincinnati Bengals are having a bad year and, while there are many reasons, not many are greater than the list I am about to give you.The Bengals lost 16-12 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and it looks like they lost wide receiver A.J. Green and running back Giovani Bernard for the remainder of the year with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively. Highlights of the Buffalo Bills win over the Detroit Lions in week 11 of the NFL. Add those to tight end Tyler Eifert, who missed the first half of the season through injury, and free agent departing wide receivers Marvin Jones (Detroit) and Mohamed Sanu (Atlanta). For the cherry on top of the cake, throw in offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who left to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns and you get a clear picture of why the Bengals have just three wins to their name - that is too much offensive talent to lose in one lump sum and survive intact.Cousins inches towards long-term dealWashington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins gambled on himself in the off-season as he inked a one-year franchise tag deal with his NFC East club. And it looks like he is going to parlay that into a lucrative long-term contract as Washington are rolling at 6-3-1 following their Sunday night mauling of Green Bay.In high and swirling winds, Cousins did a masterful job of spreading the ball around and picked on the Packers much-maligned defensive backs to the tune of 375 yards and three touchdowns. Highlights from the Washington Redskins victory over the Green Bay Packers His opposite number - Aaron Rodgers - didnt do too much wrong with 351 yards and three scores of his own, but he got very little help from his defence and the Packers, for so long one of the serious contenders in the NFL, have now lost four straight to drop to 4-6 on the year. Finally on Cousins, I maintain that he is one of the growing quarterbacks in the NFL who we should keep an eye on. I think he is a fantastic player and a great leader in the locker room. Oh, and he will get rich in the coming off-season!Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price. Luongo started his first game since March 27th against Carolina when he left after the first period following a collision with the Hurricanes Radek Dvorak. Luongo sustained a mild concussion and missed three games. "A win would have been nice but I thought the effort was there, the boys played really hard, we carried the play most of the night. Youve got to give their goalie credit, he played well and made some big saves," Luongo said. "We just couldnt get that equalizer." The Flames won their second straight and fifth in their last eight. They picked up their pace in the second period, then withstood a 17-shot barrage by Florida in the period. "We promised our fans and we even promised ourseelves that we would play the games to win until the final second of the regular season, and I just felt in the first period we were going through the motions," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. Cheap NBA Jerseys Authentic. "Thats not the identity, thats not the culture that we want to create. So I?just thought that it was unacceptable and I?politely let them know." The Panthers have lost five straight and eight of nine. All of the scoring took place in about 4 1/2 minutes of the second period. Calgary took just six shots in the period but scored twice. The Flames took a 1-0 lead on Agostinos wrist shot from the left circle that got past Luongo at 1:34. It was Agostinos first NHL goal, and came in his fifth game. He was acquired in a trade with Pittsburgh for Jarome Iginla on March 27. "It was kind of a broken play and the puck just came to me," Agostino said. "Unforgettable feeling when it went in." The Panthers tied it less than a minute later on a power-play goal by Trocheck. MacDonald blocked a shot by Jimmy Hayes but the puck bounced out into the slot. Trocheck was there for the rebound and beat MacDonald on the stick side at 2:21 for his 4th goal since being recalled from AHL San Antonio on March 5th. "Hayes had a nice shot, low pad, the rebound just bounced out into the slot," Trocheck said. "Luckily I was right there and put it home." Prince Fielder is expected to have neck surgery next week and miss the rest of the season. https://www.dallasfootballshop.com/52-Jersey . Fielder has been out with a herniated disk in his neck, and surgery was recommended after a follow-up exam and another scan Thursday with Dr. Drew Dossett. General manager Jon Daniels said the team would get second opinion about surgery, but were "expecting that to be confirmed." Daniels said Dossett was tentatively scheduled to do a cervical fusion Tuesday. That operation has a typical recovery time of three to four months, and the GM said he anticipated Fielder being able to be fully recovered before spring training next year. The Rangers already have a majors-high 13 players on the disabled list. Fielder will become the 14th when that move is made Friday. Fielder had played in 547 consecutive games, then the longest active streak in the majors, before receiving a nerve root block injection Saturday to treat his neck. He had played all 162 games four of the past five seasons, and missed only one game in 2010. Before that, the durable first baseman that turned 30 earlier this month hadnt missed a game since Sept. 14, 2010. The last time he had missed consecutive games was Aug. 24-25, 2007, while with Milwaukee. Texas acquired Fielder last winter from Detroit in a trade for second baseman Ian Kinsler. Fielder is signed through 2020, the rest of the nine-year deal he signed with the Tigers after going there as a free agent for the 2012 season. After the injection, Fielder took a couple of days off before an exam Monday. Daniels said the sluggers strength tested normal then and that his symptoms had largely gone away, so he was given clearance to resume baseball activity. Fielder was initially listed in the lineup Tuesday night against Seattle, but was scratched more than three hours before the game after feeling weakness in his arm while taking swings in the batting cage. And he felt no better Wednesday. "His symptoms have gotten worse," Daniels said Thursday, describing Fielder as frustrated for not feeling like himself and being able to help the team. Daniels said he wasnt surprised by the news he got from Dossett on Thursday. "Talking to (Fielder) and seeing him, you knew this was something that was bothering him," Daniels said. "We were hoping the injection could get him through the season, and sometimes you have that kind of response. The initial response was positive. But when he had the setback on Tuesday, we kind of felt this is where it was headed." Daniels said there is a very high success rate for the kind of surgery Fielder will have. "Were looking forward to seeing this guy healthy and doing what he can do," Daniels said. "Its more of a 2015 thing. Were going to miss him this year." Fielder has hit .247 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 42 games this season. The only time he has played fewer games was 39 as a rookie in 2005.https://www.dallasfootballshop.com/97-Jersey . RICHMOND, Va. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/15-Jersey . -- Kevin Harvick pulled away on a restart with 47 laps to go and ended Chase Elliotts two-race winning streak in NASCARs Nationwide Series with a dominating victory early Saturday at Richmond International Raceway. Harvick led 202 of the 250 laps in a race delayed nearly 3 1/2 hours at the start by rain Friday night. The victory was the 41st of his career in the series, and his record-extending seventh at 0.75-mile Richmond. Elliott, the Georgia high-schooler and son of racing great Bill Elliott, was looking to win his third consecutive race and pad his points lead, but managed to do just the latter when Harvick was too fast. "I think he just outdrove me a little bit, honestly" Elliott said. "Some of it was me. I kind of let him get too far out in front of me." The pair finished nearly seven seconds ahead of third-place finisher Kyle Busch, and Harvick said Elliott, a teammate at JR Motorsports, has had a positive impact that helped produce the 1-2 finish. "He pushes us to be better by trying different things," Harvick said. "Hes as good as they get and a lot of fun to be around." Busch never really contended, but said his team made steady gains all race long. "The racing was sort of a struggle for us to start with," he said. Kyle Larson, awarded the pole for Saturdays Sprint Cup race based on practice speeds when qualifying for that race was rained out earlier Friday night, finished fourth, with pole-sitter Brian Scott fifth. Scott, the pole-sitter, led the first 239 laps here last September before getting passed by Brad Keselowski with 11 laps to go. Scott led the first 43 laps Friday night and stayed in the top 10 all night, but with Harvick repeatedly opening up huge margins, second place seemed like the prize at stake. Elliott took that away as the only car that could challenge Harvick at the end. The ending was tougher for Elliott Sadler, who had worked his way up to third with some nifty work by his pit crew, but when the race went back to green with 54 to go, he got turned around in Turn 2. It looked like Trevor Bayne nudged Regan Smith, who then nudged Sadler. The Emporia native finished sixth. Elliotts points lead grew from 13 to 19 over Smith, who finished eighth. The race also marked the Nationwide Series debut for Daniel Suarez, who has impressed in the K&N Pro Series East Tour. He drove for Joe Gibbs Racing, starting 12th and finishing 19th. Suarez also was schedule to return to race in Saturday reschedule K&N Pro Series East Tour race starting at 9 a.m.https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/64-Jersey . He had it twisted at a gruesome angle against Arizona. His knee has repeatedly swollen up after games. He took such a blow Sunday against Oakland that he was administered a concussion test on the sideline.Heck, the star running even hurt himself tripping over a curb while moving out of the dorms when the Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up training camp so many months ago.In other words, Knile Davis picked a nice time to show up over the weekend. The backup running back had largely disappeared since early in the season, when he had back-to-back 100-yard rushing games with Charles nursing his ankle. But he was crucial in a 31-13 win over the Raiders, running for a touchdown while Charles was going through the concussion protocol and then catching a 70-yard touchdown pass to help put the game away.Im happy for Knile. Every week he comes to practice and doesnt say a word, Charles said after the game. He comes to the game, and sometimes he doesnt get any reps and Ill be like, Man, let him loose. But he comes in when Im down and makes plays for me.Charles acknowledged that injuries have been killing me this year, a big reason why hes only carried 184 times for 950 yards. That puts him on pace for his worst season since his rookie year, not counting the 2011 season that he mostly missed recovering from a torn ACL.Still, it will be hard to keep him out considering what is at stake. By knocking off Oakland, the Chiefs (8-6) maintained control of their own destiny heading to Pittsburgh this weekend. They finish up with San Diego on Dec. 28. Both of those teams are also in the playoff hunt.Every game is playoff-mode, Charles said. Every game, youve got to come with it.Charles seemed to know what was at stake when he lowered his head near the goal line in the third quarter Sunday, with the outcome still haanging in the balance. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/77-Jersey. He took a shot from two Oakland defenders and appeared to be unsteady as he got to his feet. He was subbed out and Davis went in, and Reid told his top playmaker that he needed to go through the concussion testing. The blow was reminiscent of a shot delivered by former teammate Brandon Flowers during a game against the Chargers. Charles later admitted on a radio show to seeing stars but avoided going through the concussion protocol because he didnt want to exit the game.Really, he was complaining of his knee and his ankle, not his head. But he did take a big hit there, so we kind of went in that direction, Reid said. He set me straight when I came over there and he wasnt able to score that touchdown and Knile did. He wanted the ball. He wanted back in.Charles eventually did return, but only briefly. The Chiefs put up three touchdowns in 4 minutes, 44 seconds, including the long TD catch by Davis. That allowed Charles to spend the rest of the game on the sideline, resting his knee and bothersome ankle.I feel good, he said. I just think I need to get off of it and ice it and heal it and get it back right because it is still tender.Even if Charles is limited against the Steelers, Davis proved Sunday he can help shoulder the load. The bruising running back easily scored on his touchdown run, and then showed off world-class speed when he took a short throw from Alex Smith and ran untouched for his other score.Like Jamaal said, every game from here forward is a playoff game. Were taking that mindset into every game, Davis said. For me, its just a dream to be in the NFL. To make the big plays and help this team win is just huge all around.NOTES: DE Allen Bailey and CB Phillip Gaines are continuing to deal with concussions, Reid said Monday. LB Josh Mauga is dealing with an oblique strain that he sustained Sunday. ' ' '
EVANSVILLE, Ind. https://www.dallasfootballshop.com/20-Jersey . -- No. 4 Wichita State relied on the basics Sunday: defence and ball security. Again, it was the perfect combination. The Shockers forced 18 turnovers, finished with a season-high 14 steals and finally locked down Evansvilles shooters late to pull away for an 84-68 victory that kept them one of the nations two undefeated teams. "We wanted to extend them, get their timing disrupted. I dont think we expected that many steals," Fred VanVleet said. "There were only a few times where we had breakdowns where we werent really where we were supposed to be." Few expected the Shockers (27-0, 14-0 Missouri Valley Conference) to be in this spot -- even after reaching the Final Four last April. They are one of only 21 teams in NCAA history to win their first 27 games, extended their school-record winning streak and are 14-0 in conference play for the first time in school history. And after Arizonas latest loss, Wichita State could be poised to move up another notch in the poll, getting even closer to Division Is only other perfect team -- No. 1 Syracuse. A win Wednesday at Loyola also would assure the Shockers at least a share of the regular-season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Valley tournament -- with three league games still on the docket. How have they done it? With a balanced offence and a staunch defence that Evansville knows is the best in the Valley. Wichita State trumped the Purple Aces by outscoring them 23-2 off turnovers and 10-4 on fastbreaks. Coach Gregg Marshall didnt even need a stat sheet to tell him what had happened. He estimated that the Shockers topped the 40-deflection mark. The other numbers were just as glaring. VanVleet and Ron Baker each finished with a career-best five steals, and, not surprisingly wound up as the top scorers. Baker had a career-high 26 points, while VanVleet added 18 and eight assists and flirted with the possibility of a triple-double throughout the second half. But thats not what motivated Wichita, which lost twice to Evansville last season and fell behind by double-digits early in the first meeting two weeks ago at Wichita. They wanted to put away the Aces, and before the game, Marshall let Cleanthony Early, the teams top scorer, know exactly what he needed to do in front of a Pacers scout who had been asking about his defence. Early responded by scoring 13 points, seven rebounds and playing his best defensive game of the year, too. "I loved his mental approach tonight and thats not always the case," Marshall said. "But tonight I thought he was very disciplined and when he does that, man, hes really good." Evansville (11-16, 4-10) learned its lesson the hard way. Despite getting 19 points from D.J. Balentine, the MVCs top scorer, and 19 points and 10 rebounds from Egidiju Mockevicius, it wasnt quite enough to prevent a fourth loss in five games or a second straight this season to Wichita. The Purple Aces did most of what they set out to do -- shooting 51.1 per cent from the field, 45.5 per cent from 3-point range, made 15 of 16 free throws, limited the Shockers to only six offensive rebounds and kept challenging Wichita State right down to the final minutes. But the turnovers, as they had all game, finally did them in. "We didnt turn it over in the press, we did it in the half-court and you have to take care of the basketball," coach Marty Simmons said. "Weve really got to learn, weve got to learn from that, and thats one of our biggest deficiencies." The Purple Aces, however, only trailed 38-32 at the half and still found a way to fight back after falling into a 55-41 deficit early in the second half. Mockevicius scored the first eight points in a 10-2 spurt that cut the deficit to 57-51 with 11:19 to go. Early answered with five straight points and Evansville rallied again, getting as close as 65-60 with 6:10 left before throwing the ball away on an inbound pass that would have cut the deficit to three. "They did a good job of changing defences and I was trying to get a timeout," Simmons said. Instead, the Shockers got the ball back and forced two more turnovers during the decisive 13-4 run that finally sealed the victory. "We were just focused on getting stops and it went in our favour," VanVleet said. "We wanted to end it right there. After that possession, I think we got back on the right track." https://www.dallasfootballshop.com/25-Jersey .A. Dickey, even though he was coming off a Cy Young Award in 2012. Latos suffered the injury a few days earlier while throwing in Arizona. Hell have to stop throwing for about 10 days to let the knee heal. General manager Walt Jocketty said Latos could be ready for the start of the season. "It was a very quick repair," Jocketty said. "Very minor surgery." The Reds have suffered injuries to their bullpen during spring training each of the past two years. This time the rotation was thrown into flux from the start of camp. Latos went 14-7 last season with a 3.16 ERA in 32 starts. https://www.dallasfootballshop.com/89-Jersey. He had surgery to remove bone chips from his pitching elbow at the end of the season and had recovered well from that operation. Latos felt something in the knee on one of his throws earlier in the week. An MRI found the tear, and he had surgery on Friday morning as the rest of the pitchers and catchers were having their physicals. "Is it unfortunate? Yeah," Jocketty said. "But its not something were overly concerned about." Pitchers Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino and infielder Neftali Soto didnt make it to Goodyear for the first workout because their flights were cancelled due to the bad weather on the East Coast. NEW YORK -- David Villa of Spain has signed a three-year contract with New York City FC, becoming the first player on the expansion Major League Soccer team that starts play next season at Yankee Stadium. https://www.kansascityfootballshop.com/76-Jersey . "Throughout my career, Ive always tried to keep pushing myself to achieve new targets, and this represents another important goal for me," Villa said in a statement Monday. "I want to try and help MLS continue to grow, through playing, working hard, scoring goals and at the same time try to make New York City FC become the best team in the league." NYCFC starts play in March, and the team plans to loan him to an unspecified club to keep him in shape until training starts in the third week of January. Claudio Reyna, the teams director of football, said loaning Villa to NYCFC parent Manchester City was not an option. The 32-year-old forward helped Spain win the 2008 European Championship and the 2010 World Cup. He is a member of his countrys roster for next months tournament. He missed the 2012 Euros, which Spain also won, after breaking his left leg while playing for Barcelona in the Club World Cup. He holds Spains record with 56 international goals. MLS said Villa was acquired on a free transfer from Spanish league champion Atletico Madrid, where he scored 15 goals in 47 games in all competitions last season. He previously played for Sporting Gijon (2001-03), Zaragoza (2003-05), Valencia (2005-10) and Barcelona (2010-13). He helped Barcelona win the 2011 Champions League title. The Czechs defeated Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4) in almost four hours on an indoor hard court at CEZ Arena to improve to a 15-1 record in the cup doubles. The Dutch were trailing 2-0 in the fourth set before coming back and saving three break points at 5-5 after Haase double-faulted twice but the home pair converted their second match point in the tiebreaker with Haase sending a volley too long. "It was the toughest game we have played," Berdych said. "It was extremely hard for us. They were excellent." It was the first defeat in the cup doubles for Haase and Rojer following four victories. "We had our chances but our opponents were unbelievable," Stepanek said "We had to fight till the end." The Czechs, seeking their third straight Davis Cup title, are one win away from the quarterfinals while the Dutch must win both reverse singles on Sunday to reach the quarters for the first time sincee 2005. https://www.kansascityfootballshop.com/14-Jersey. On Sunday, Berdych plays Haase then Stepanek faces Igor Sijsling. The winner of the best-of-five series will face either Canada or Japan in April. Berdych and Stepanek saved five set points in the 10th game of the opening set before they broke Haase, and Stepanek served the set out. The Dutch pair wasted 10 break opportunities in the set. In the second set, Stepanek failed to hold his serve in the fourth game and Berdych double-faulted to do likewise, allowing the Dutch to race to a commanding 5-1 lead. Haase hit an ace on the first set point. Berdych was broken again in the seventh game of the third set when his forehand volley hit the net but the Dutch let the Czechs come back after wasting three set points and Haase failed to serve the set out in the 10th game. The Dutch still forced a tiebreaker after saving three set points. Haase became furious when the Czechs jumped to 4-1 for no clear reason, hitting the net three times with his racket before the Czechs prevailed 7-2 with Berdychs backhand volley winner. Berdych had to be treated for a back problem when trailing 5-4 in the third set but said it was not serious. ' ' '

Four sources have told ESPNs Outside the Lines that now-former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice told NFL commissioner Roger Goodell when they met on June 16 that he punched his then-fiancée Janay Rice in an Atlantic City elevator. https://www.cincinnatifootballshop.com/22-Jersey .   The report conflicts with Goodells statement this week that when the league met with Rice and his representatives, "it was ambiguous about what actually happened."   Goodell told CBS News in a one-on-one interview on Tuesday that the video released by TMZ - showing Rice striking his fiancée - was "inconsistent" with what the commissioner had previously been told.   The sources - reportedly close to Rice - say Goodell was fully informed of the situation during the aforementioned hearing.   "Ray didnt lie to the commissioner," a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN. "He told the full truth to Goodell. He made it clear he had hit her and he told Goodell he was sorry and that it wouldnt happen again."   "He told the truth," another source added to ESPN. "This is a public lynching of Ray."   The sources spoke on condition of anonymity, but are adamant that Goodells statement to CBS News is not accurate.   "There was no ambiguity about what happened [in the elevator]," another source told ESPN.   NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, Rices lawyer Michael J. Diamondstein and a representative of the players union each declined to comment when contacted by ESPN about the story. TMZ released the in-elevator video of the incident on Monday and the Associated Press reported Wednesday that the footage was sent to an unnamed NFL executive by a law enforcement official last April.   The NFL has since announced that former FBI chief Robert Mueller will lead an independent investigation into the entire situation. The CFL and the CFL Players Association has just concluded two days of negotiations on the new CBA, former NFL receiver Chad Johnson is getting a look at Montreals spring camp, and the careers of a couple of big-name players are still up in the air. https://www.losangelesfootballshop.com/46-Jersey . We are just under 80 days from kicking off the regular season in the CFL and these are just three of a handful of football stories that have been circulating around the country. So, just so sports fans can take a little break from the what the heck happened to my hockey team talk, lets take a look at some of the football topics that have managed to wedge their way into the odd sportscast.   Lets start in Montreal, where Alouettes GM Jim Popp is taking a look at former NFL Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson at the teams spring camp in Vero Beach, Florida. Johnson hasnt played since 2011, and is 36 years old, but he does have an impressive resume; six times voted to the Pro Bowl after racking up over 11,000 yards and scoring 67 touchdowns in 11 seasons in the NFL. Wally Buono and the Lions passed on him but Jim Popp wants to take a longer look, and on the surface, there really is nothing lost by the Als inviting him to a workout at their spring camp. Popp says Johnson wants to play football again, adding "he wants to play, he wasnt ready to stop and didnt like the way his career ended in the NFL, and this is not about money." The Als GM also said that the workout in Florida is basically around 25 per cent of the process. Obviously, he wants to evaluate where Johnson is at physically, but that is just one question that needs to be answered. The others include: Where is he mentally? Can he help the Als with what will be a new offensive system? There are work visas to be considered as well. Chad Johnson can obviously play the game, and according to Popp, who has seen video of the former Bengal working out, thinks he is still in great shape. However, a contract offer to Montreals main camp has not even been discussed and there are lots of questions to be answered before that occurs. The biggest question is really not whether Johnson can still run or whether he can still catch, he proved he could still do those things in his first workout, it is whether he is willing to completely commit to continuing his football career. We have seen it too many times, in fact it was happening back in the 80s and 90s as well. A former NFL starter thinks they can cruise into a CFL camp, show everyone how it is done, and play for fun for six months, only to find out quickly, that whether youre making $1 million or $100,000, the game of football requires an all-in philosophy. When Ricky Williams signed in Toronto, while serving a suspension in the NFL in 2006, there were some reports and speculation that Williams would dominate in the CFL, and rush for, well some even said, 3,000 yards without trying. Williams totals in 11 games with the Argos were 109 carries for 526 yards and two touchdowns, which is hardly tearing it up. Before some start making excuses for that lack of production, like its a different game, and he didnt get as much opportunity, simply look at his average: it was 4.8 yards/carry. Williams went back to the NFL in 2007 and, in 2009, rushed for over 1,000 yards in Miami, and has rushed for over 10,000 yards in the NFL. The point being, like Williams, Chad Johnson has been a good football player, but he can only help Montreal if he is willing to be all-in, and approach the CFL in a respectful and professional way. Its never wrong to take a look, but even Popp admitted that he is looking at much more than just whether or not he can still run routes, and catch the ball. CBA Talk Last week in Calgary, the CFL and the CFLPA met to begin discussions on a new CBA. Both sides are being careful not to leak any information as to how the meetings went. Its safe to say that both sides believe that the players should be making more money, but how they get there and how much more money is going to make these negotiations challenging for both sides. For example, the players making more money isnt as simple as the owners writing a bigger check, and allowing the teams GMs to spend that money where they please. If the players do get a much bigger piece of the financial pie the question is where should that money be spent? Should starting quarterbacks get a raise due to the degree of difficulty with the position? Should the entire roster get an across the board bump? Or would it be better for the league to raise the minimum wage, and how would the league even regulate that, when each owner and or GM will run their own teams the way they want?   The term revenue sharing has come up and apparently is going to be an issue that is on top of the agenda, but again - it isnt as simple as saying lets split revenues down the middle between the clubs and the players. The players will cite the fact that a new and lucrative TV contract has changed the financial landscape of the league, and they want, as the new head of the Players Association Scott Flory has said, "their fair share." On the surface that sounds reasonable, and again everyone believes that the players should be paid more. However, the new TV deal starts this year, and no club can honestly say right now what the revenues will look like at the end of this season and beyond. In fact, it makes you wonder if revenue sharing at this point is even a good idea for the Players when they dont know what, if any the revenues will be. All of which makes all of these negotiations clear as mud, but the bottom line is both sides know the players should get paid more, and it is safe to say, that in the end, that will happen. Under The Radar Now on to a couple of big-name players that are managing to stay well under the radar and whose futures are still very much up in the air. The first is quarterback Kevin Glenn, who has both publicly and privately, asked to be traded from Ottawa, and who did not attend the teams spring camp in the United States. Glenn, who led the Stamps to the West Final and a Grey Cup over the last two seasons, is an interesting one for a couple of reasons. First, despite getting the majority of the snaps in Calgary, Glenn was the back-up to Drew Tate, and in fact last year as the team entered the playoffs, there was all kinds of debate and discussion by the teams fan base over whether or not it should be Glenn, or third string QB Bo Levi Mitchell to start in the playoffs. So he is still a back-up QB to most, yet Glenn has shown he has the skills to lead a team to the championship game. Its tough for management on any team to put a real value on what exactly they are getting when they talk trades for Kevin Glenn. Secondly, Glenn has chosen not to talk publicly, except to say that he wants out of Ottawa. Now you have to believe that he and his agent are trying to get the message out, behind closed doors, to any team that will listen that if acquired, Glenn will be a good teammate like he has been in his career to date. However, it will not be a newsflash to teams that Glenns agent is selling him as a team-first guy. One does have to wonder if those same teams are concerned that Glenn will only go to a camp if he is guaranteed the starting job, based on what he has said so far in public. Thats another reason why it will be tough on teams trying to assess what they would be willing to give up for Glenns services and what that might mean to their current rosters. The second player that has been under the radar of late has been free agent Keron Williams. Last year in BC, Williams was asked to move from rush end to defensive tackle and saw his sack totals go from 12 in 2012 to just four last year. Williams did not complain in the media about the move, and only he and the Lions coaching staff know if he said anything behind closed doors. Now whether he complained about it or not, the fact of the matter is, it is very difficult to move from the left to the right side of the formation, let alone move to a different position all together. Williams has been asked to do this twice by the Lions. As a member of the Als in 2008 and 2009, he played on the interior of the defensive line and dominated, accumulating a total of 18 sacks in two years. When he packed his bags and moved to BC, then head coach Wally Buono asked him to move to defensive end, a position that requires a completely different skill set, and in fact a different body type. Williams took a year to get used to his new position, which is completely understandable when you consider most players could not even do it. In his first year playing off the edge in 2010, Williams registered five sacks, but in the back half of the season, you could see he was going to be a force. In his last two full years as a rush end, he was arguably the premier pass rusher in the league and recorded a total of 23 sacks. Now Williams, who is just 29 years old, is likely waiting to see what happens to the salary cap as the CBA negotiations continue. It also goes without saying that most, if not all, the teams in the league have shown some level of interest in the free agent, and yet it has been all quiet on the Williams front. All of which leads to speculation that he is either going to wait and see if there is an NFL tryout possibility for as long as possible or stay in BC and he and the Lions have already come to some agreement. The only other scenario is that he is still testing the free agent market in the CFL. However, if thats the case, why wouldnt he and his agent want to, say, leak out the level of interest to create a bidding war for his services? Williams could not be reached for comment. The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Wednesday that starting quarterback and Grey Cup champion Darian Durant has agreed to a contract extension with the club, which is ahead of schedule. Durant said recently that he didnt think that the deal would get done until just before training camp, but clearly the Riders made their franchise player, "an offer he just couldnt refuse". Terms of the deal have not been released but, with what he has now accomplished and a playoff run last year that was as close to perfect as any quarterback has had in recent memory, Durant may not be the highest paid QB in the league, but it is not a stretch to think he will be close. It is a well-deserved extension. And finally, according to CTV reporter Heath Brown who was in attendance at a fan forum event in Calgary recently, Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel addressed the crowd and mentioned the organization has come to a "handshake agreement" with their star running back Jon Cornish on a contract extension. Cornish had as good as season as any player in the history of the game in 2013, a season where he was named the leagues Most Outstanding Player and the Most Outstanding Canadian. He also received the Lou Marsh Memorial Trophy as Canadas top athlete, and most recently was named the Male Athlete of the Year by the Calgary Booster Club. Apparently, when asked after the event to further discuss the Cornish extension, Hufnagel refused to go there, which may have meant the coach regretted letting the big news slip out. However, whether he meant to or not, the news is huge for Stamps fans, as they will be able to continue to cheer for the most dominant running back in the CFL over the last two seasons. Lions running back Andrew Harris is the CFLs top Canadian for the second week in a row while teammate Emmanuel Arceneaux is the leagues top offensive player of the week. The pair were consistently dangerous in the Lions decisive 41-5 win over Montreal on Saturday. Arceneaux caught eight receptions for 145 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, while Winnipeg native Harris had four receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown and 12 carries for 72 yards. He recorded his first career interception and returned it for his first career touchdown in the Eskimos 26-3 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday. He also had two tackles, including a sack. Maher hit a 27-yard field goal with under a minute to play in the game as the Redblacks earned their first franchise win, beating the Toronto Argonauts 18-17 on Friday. San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork. Cheap NBA Jerseys Free Shipping .com) - With their first West Coast Conference win under their belts, the Gonzaga Bulldogs return to action on Monday night when they challenge the San Diego Toreros at Jenny Craig Pavilion. Gonzaga is off to another sensational start, the team winning 12 of its first 13 games, including the last five in a row. The Zags won at BYU in their conference opener on Saturday, 87-80, running their current winning streak in WCC lid lifters under head coach Mark Few to 16 in the row, and 19 straight overall. San Diego enters this fray a game over .500 on the season (7-6), but it is coming off a 61-58 loss to visiting Portland in Saturdays WCC opener. That setback snapped a three-game win streak for the Toreros, who are hoping to get back on track and improve to 5-1 at home this season with an upset victory tonight. Gonzaga owns a 63-21 lead in the all-time series with San Diego. Three of the last four matchups have been decided by three points or less, including the last meeting (last season) in which the Toreros earned a 69-66 win at home. Kyle Wiltjer scored 24 points and Kevin Pangos finished with 21 points and seven assists in leading Gonzaga to its recent win at BYU. With his effort, Pangos became the 14th player in school history to reach 1,500 career points. Byron Wesley added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Przemek Karnowski chipped in with nine points and 10 boards. GU outscored BYU in the paint, 36-24, and had 22 assists to just 13 for the hosts. The Cougars did manage to score 40 bench points to only 15 for the Zags. Overall, Gonzaga made good on 49.2 of its field goal attempts, draining 8-of-19 3-point tries along the way, while permitting just 39.7 percent success to the Cougars, who made 7-of-25 long-range launches while logging a 27-15 edge in points at the foul line. Gonzaga boasts five double-digit scorers on the season, led by Wiltjer and his 17.3 ppg. The Bulldogs net 83.9 ppg, while yielding 61.5 ppg. The Zags are hitting an eye-popping 53.2 percent of their field goal attempts, which includes a 3-point shooting percentage of .398. Foes are shooting just 38.7 percent from the floor, which includes a 31.0 percent showing from beyond the arc, and the Bulldogs are +10.4 in rebounding margin and +2.2 in turnover differential. San Diego played well on defense in Saturdays clash with Portland, holding the Pilots to 37 percent field goal efficiency, although that included an 8- of-14 showing from beyond the arc. UofP was also guilty of 19 turnovers, but scored 13 points at the foul line compared to only five for the Toreros, who made good on only 37.1 percent of their total shots, missing eight of their nine 3-point tries in the process. Chris Anderson was high man for USD with 14 points, while Thomas Jacobs tallied a dozen and Johnny Dee had 11. Dee is the only player netting double figures for San Diego this season, as he is shooting a stellar 44.1 percent from long range in averaging 18.8 ppg. Anderson is close to joining him, as he puts up 9.3 ppg, but his real worth is as a playmaker as evidenced by his whopping 93 assists (7.2 apg). Collectively, the Toreros are scoring 70.2 ppg thanks to solid shooting efforts of .457 overall and .379 from downtown, while permitting 64.8 ppg and logging favorable margins in both rebounding (+2.4) and turnovers (+0.7). Cheap NBA Jerseys Shop . 1 and reigning champion Caroline Wozniacki was among Thursdays third-round winners, while second- seeded Victoria Azarenka pulled out of the draw at the $4. Cheap NBA Jerseys . -- Dee Ford prefers to keep things simple: Play hard and fast, and let others worry about his NFL draft stock.PHILADELPHIA -- O.J. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers can put a tumultuous off-season behind them. https://www.carolinafootballshop.com/16-Jersey . They have a rusty Tony Romo to thank for making the opener a little easier. Kaepernick threw two touchdown passes to Vernon Davis, one after the first of three interceptions from Romo, and the 49ers cruised to a 28-17 win over the sloppy Cowboys on Sunday. The 49ers (1-0) came in with questions about their defence, missing key players because of injuries or suspensions. Defensive tackle Ray McDonald got the start just a week after his arrest in a domestic violence case. The secondary put all those issues to rest, getting Chris Cullivers 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the second play of the game and two of the Romo picks on their way to a 28-3 halftime lead. "Theres been a lot of rhetoric," said coach Jim Harbaugh, who improved to 4-0 in season openers. "This game was about steel in the spine. When it comes to 49er players, thats where they excel." For one game, it didnt matter that linebacker Aldon Smith will miss the first nine games on a suspension over off-the-field issues and fellow linebacker NaVorro Bowman is out until midseason because of a knee injury. After Culliver picked up a loose ball stripped from DeMarco Murray and ran untouched for a score, safety Eric Reid returned Romos first interception 48 yards to the Dallas 2, setting up Kaepernicks second scoring toss to Davis. "Our front seven did a good job getting pressure on the quarterback, and the secondary played well," Reid said. Romo looked like a quarterback who was limited in the off-season and training camp, not a good start for a team trying to avoid tying a franchise record with a fifth straight year of missing the playoffs. He didnt see Reid on a throw to Dez Bryant, then didnt see wide-open receiver Dwayne Harris for what would have been an easy touchdown. Instead he forced a pass to Jason Witten that was intercepted by Patrick Willis in the end zone. The picks kept coming even after starting San Francisco cornerbacks Tramaine Brock (toe) and Culliver (concussion) had been knocked out of the game. Backup Perrish Cox had his second career interception when Romo threw deep to Bryant in double coverage. "I felt comfortable," said Romo, who threw for 281 yards and a late touchdown. "Just couple poor decisions that I made tonight." It didnt take Kaepernick long to put that rough preseason behind him, leading the 49ers 80 yards in just three plays on their first possession. He stepped out of an ankle tackle by Jeremy Mincey and threw 29 yards on the run to Davis, who juggled the ball as the crossed the goal line before holding on for a 14-3 lead. The 49ers also had an efficient drive in their 2-minute offence to finish the first half, with Kaepernick throwing for 39 yards leading to Carlos Hydes 4-yard scoring run for a 28-3 halftime lead. "Everyone was ready to get to the season, ready to play and ready to start putting these wins together," said Kaepernick, who was 16 of 23 for 201 yards without an interception. When Romo wasnt throwing interceptions, the Dallas offence was getting false-start penalties and using timeouts to avoid delay-of-game penalties. Part of the problem was the noise from large swaths of red-clad 49ers fans seeing their team for the first time in the regular season in the $1.2 billion home of the Cowboys. "I noticed that," Harbaugh said of the crowd. "Much appreciated. Means a lot." Murray bounced back from the fumble on his first carry of the season to get 71 yards in the first quarter and 118 with a touchdown for the game. But he didnt get the ball on second-and-1 from the San Francisco 2 with a chance to tie the score early. Instead, Romo was sacked and Dallas settled for a field goal. NOTES: 49ers RB Frank Gore had 63 yards rushing, becoming the 29th NFL player with 10,000 for his career. Hes also the 10th player with 10,000 yards and 10 seasons with the same team. ... MANCHESTER, England - Yaya Toure scored the only goal as Manchester City finally saw off Stoke 1-0 to claim three crucial Premier League points on Saturday. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/38-Jersey . After two league games without a win and a loss to Barcelona midweek, City was facing more frustration at the hands of former manager Mark Hughes until Toure struck in the 70th minute. Dzeko failed to make a clean connection when picked out unmarked, with an open goal, two yards out. Leicester have shocked the world of football by going from 5,000/1 outsiders under Claudio Ranieri to title winners, an unthinkable feat in only their second season back in the top flight following promotion in 2014.But how many of the Premier League champions would make it into a best-ever Leicester line-up? Here we pick our XI...   Gordon BanksKasper Schmeichel has been somewhat of an unsung hero during Leicesters unlikely title charge this season, but few could argue that 1966 World Cup winner Gordon Banks doesnt deserve his place between the sticks in Leicester Citys all-time XI.Signed from Chesterfield for £7,000 in July 1959, Banks was part of the side that reached the 1961 and 1963 FA Cup finals before going on to lose to Tottenham and Manchester United respectively. He would clinch silverware with the Foxes in 1964, though, winning the League Cup 4-3 on aggregate over Stoke City before losing 3-2 to Chelsea the following season. Gordon Banks was part of the side that reached the 1961 and 1963 FA Cup finals But it was his exploits for Sir Alf Ramseys heroes in 1966 that would etch him in football folklore, not conceding a goal until a 2-1 win over Portugal in the semi-final before lifting the trophy at Wembley.Four years later, he made the save of the century, somehow keeping out Peles header in the clash with Brazil in Guadalajara, but Banks would miss the 1970 World Cup quarter-final against West Germany due to illness.Regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, he was named FWA Footballer of the Year in 1972, and was FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year on six occasions.Banks was a truly global player, particularly after his World Cup exploits in 1966 and 1970 and the save from Pele, Leicester City club historian John Hutchinson told Sky Sports. He had uncanny positioning; he was extremely agile and had sharp reflexes. The game I will always remember him for is the 1963 FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Hillsborough, the players at the time said it was like the Alamo. He was absolutely outstanding.Steve WalshNo-nonsense defender Steve Walsh made 369 appearances for the Foxes during a 14-year spell at Filbert Street, where he scored 53 goals and picked up 13 red cards, a Football League record alongside Roy McDonough.Born in Preston, Walsh began his career at Wigan Athletic where he won the Football League trophy in 1984/85 before moving to Leicester for £100,000 and was made captain by manager Brian Little six years later. Steve Walsh made 369 appearances for the Foxes during a 14-year spell Often employed as an emergency striker, Walsh went on to score 15 goals, including one in the 1992/93 4-3 play-off final defeat to Swindon Town, but he ensured himself legendary status the following season, scoring twice against local rivals Derby County to clinch promotion the Premier League for the first time.Injury ruled him out for the majority of the 1994/95 season which saw City suffer relegation, but Martin ONeill restored Captain Fantastic to the side promoted back to the top-flight after Steve Claridge scored the winner in the 120th minute against Crystal Palace in the 1995/96 play-off final.Walsh was an integral part of the side that would go on to become the most successful in the clubs history, clinching four successive top-10 finishes in the top flight in addition to winning the League Cup in 1997 after setting up Emile Heskeys equaliser at Wembley and Claridges winner in the replay against Middlesbrough.Walsh also featured in Citys 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon in the 1997 UEFA Cup and was captain when the Foxes suffered a late defeat to Tottenham in the 1999 League Cup.John SjobergAberdeen-born John Sjoberg spent 15 seasons at Leicester from 1958 to 1973 and was a key member of the famous Ice Kings side of 1962/63.Under the management of Matt Gillies, Leicester sensationally chased the double but would eventually fall short after losing 3-1 to Manchester United in the FA Cup final and, after winning just one of their final nine league games, their title challenge collapsed as City finished in fourth. John Sjoberg (left) spent 15 seasons at Leicester from 1958 to 1973 After joining from Scottish amateur side Banks oDee in August 1958, Sjoberg made his debut in a 2-1 win over Cardiff City in October 1960 and would go on to make 413 appearances for the Foxes.Another member of the Leicester side that won the 1963 League Cup, Sjoberg also played in the 1971 Charity Shield final where Second Division champions Leicester defeated FA Cup finalists Liverpool 1-0 thanks to Steve Whitworths goal at Filbert Street.Sjoberg passed away in October 2008 following a short illness.Sjoberg played about 400 games for Leicester right through the 60s up until the 70s, said Hutchinson. He started off as a left full-back, but he became a very strong central defender alongside Graham Cross. Cross was exceptional as well, he played 599 games. Nobody has played more games for the club than Cross.I think of Cross and Sjoberg together, I wouldnt like to choose between them. They played a 1,000 games between them. He wasnt a dirty player, but he was as hard as nails. He really was extremely effective. He was also versatile; there was also a time when Gillies stuck him up front like Martin ONeill did with Walsh. He was a true great player; I would definitely put Sjoberg in.Wes MorganCurrent captain Wes Morgan, 32, signed for the Foxes in January 2012 for an undisclosed fee from local rivals Nottingham Forest and captained the club to their seventh second-tier title in 2013/14 under Nigel Pearson. In April 2015, Morgan was selected in the Football League team of the Decade before helping guide Leicester to the Great Escape where the Foxes won seven of their last nine games to ensure Premier League survival. Wes Morgan signed for the Foxes in January 2012 Morgan has arguably been Leicesters most-improved played under Claudio Ranieri and has formed a formidable partnership with Robert Huth on their way to a remarkable title challenge. The Jamaican international is the first-ever Leicester City captain to win a top-flight title and the iconic image of Morgan hoisting the Premier League trophy aloft at the King Power Stadium is enough to warrant a place in the clubs all-time XI alone.Riyad MahrezThe 25-year-old Algeria international has been instrumental in Leicesters astonishing surge towards the Premier League title. The first African and only Leicester player ever to win the PFA Player of the Season award, Mahrez began his career at Quimper before he was plucked out of the French second tier when playing for Le Havre by Leicesters Head of Recruitment, Steve Walsh. Mahrezs performances earned him the PFA Player of the Season award The tricky winger scored his first Leicester goal in a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground and played a key part in the side that won the Championship title in 2013/14.Mahrez began this season with a double in a 4-2 win against Sunderland and scored his first ever hat-trick in a 3-0 away win at Swansea City, before scoring a stunning goal in a 2-1 win over champions Chelsea at the King Power Stadium.NGolo KanteAnother one of Walshs recruits, NGolo Kante was a relative unknown when he was signed from French club Caen for £5.6million last summer and has been a revelation in the Foxes midfield since forcing his way into the side after coming on as a substitute during a 2-2 draw away at Stoke City. After the departure of fans favourite Esteban Cambiasso, Claudio Ranieri signed midfielder Gokhan Inler as his replacement, but the Swiss midfieelder struggled to make an impact since his switch from Napoli. https://www.tampabayfootballshop.com/61-Jersey. NGolo Kante was a relative unknown when he was signed from French club Caen for £5.6million Alongside Danny Drinkwater, Kante has been at the heart of Leicesters title charge with the most interceptions in the Premier League and has since become one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe having been voted in the PFA Team of the Year.Kante also received his first international call-up in March 2016 and scored on his France debut and 25th birthday in a 4-2 win over Russia.Danny DrinkwaterPerhaps the most controversial of the all-time XI, Drinkwater has been a mainstay in the Leicester City midfield since his switch from Manchester United in 2012 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 12 goals. After a series of loan spells away from Old Trafford, Drinkwater settled in the East Midlands and was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year alongside team-mates Schmeichel and Morgan as City clinched promotion back to the top-flight for the first time in 10 years. Danny Drinkwater has been a mainstay in the Leicester City midfield since his switch from Manchester United in 2012 Drinkwater featured just 24 times as Leicester secured their Premier League survival, but it was in the absence of Cambiasso where the 26-year-old flourished and alongside Kante the pair have provided an industrious platform to give Mahrez the freedom to wield his magic on the right.Favoured instead of legend Dave Gibson, this speaks volumes for the influence Drinkwater has had on Citys title tilt.Gibson was an absolute magician, said Hutchinson, who was stunned by Gibsons omission. He had superb control, visionary passing skills, great artistry but he was also resilient and scored 53 goals from midfield.Keith WellerWidely regarded as the most talented player to wear a Leicester City shirt prior to this season, Keith Weller signed for the Foxes in 1971 for £100,000 after their promotion to the top flight.A vital component of Jimmy Bloomfields team alongside Frank Worthington, Jon Sammels and Alan Birchenall, City never finished above seventh during an eight-year spell that saw some of the most flamboyant football ever played at Filbert Street. Keith Weller is regarded as the most talented player to wear a Leicester City shirt... before this season Frequently employed on the flank, Weller was equally as effective through the middle and was capped four times for England under caretaker manager Joe Mercer.Perhaps his most famous moment for the East Midlands club came in a 1979 FA Cup tie against Norwich City, where the winger strode afield with a fetching pair of white tights beneath his kit before scoring in a 3-0 win to silence the crowd.Five years earlier, he was fined and temporarily transfer-listed after sensationally refusing to return to the pitch for Leicesters encounter with Ipswich Town. Other notable highlights included a hat-trick in a 3-2 win over Liverpool in 1972 and stunning strike against Luton Town on Citys way to the FA Cup semi-final.Weller passed away in 2004 after suffering with a rare form of cancer, aged 58.Weller was pure artistry, his speed and goalscoring were outstanding, recalled Hutchinson.Muzzy IzzetTurkish midfielder Muzzy Izzet signed on loan for Leicester in March 1996 under Martin ONeill and made an immediate impact, scoring a vital goal against Watford to guarantee a play-off place on the final day of the season. He made the move permanent for £800,000 from Chelsea following Citys promotion and went on to make a total of 269 appearances for the club.A dynamic midfielder, Izzet formed a formidable partnership in the Leicester midfield alongside Neil Lennon and Robbie Savage and helped the club to four successive top 10 finishes in the Premier League as well as clinching two League Cups. Muzzy Izzet made a total of 269 appearances for the club Izzet handed in a transfer request in autumn 2001 following the departure of ONeill despite having pledged his future to the club, but withdrew his request as the club guaranteed their promotion back to the top flight in 2002/03.A fans favourite, Izzets most memorable moments included a spectacular volley at home to Tottenham and a wonderfully acrobatic overhead kick in a 2-1 win over Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in 2002.Capped nine times by his country, Izzet featured in Turkeys 1-0 2002 World Cup semi-final defeat against Brazil in Saitama.Gary LinekerLeicester-born forward Gary Lineker joined his hometown club after leaving City of Leicester Boys Grammar School in 1977 and went on to make 194 appearances for the club, scoring 95 goals. He made his senior debut for the club on New Years Day in 1979 in a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic and earned a Second Division winners medal a year later under Jock Wallace. However, Lineker featured just nine times in the top-flight as City were relegated, but they did reach the semi-final of the FA Cup the following season before losing to Tottenham. Gary Lineker made 194 appearances for the club, scoring 95 goals Lineker propelled City to promotion back to the top-flight in 1982/83 by scoring 26 goals before forging a prolific partnership with Alan Smith, earning him the top goalscorer crown in Division One with an impressive tally of 24.Lineker was then sold to champions Everton for a fee of £800,000 before going on to sign for Barcelona for £2.8million in 1986. Boasting 80 international caps, Lineker won the Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup and also scored 48 goals.Jamie Vardy Jamie Vardy has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the pinnacle of English football since his £1million switch from Fleetwood Town in May 2012.The 29-year-old prodigy began his career at Stocksbridge Park Steels in the EvoStick Northern Premier League before he joined Halifax Town in 2010, where he would go on to score 26 goals in his debut season. Jamie Vardy began his career at Stocksbridge Park Steels A year later, he joined Conference Premier side Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee and scored 31 league goals as The Cod Army secured promotion to the Football League. Another of Walshs recruits, Vardy initially struggled to make an impact in the second tier of English football but soon found his feet as he helped Pearsons side to the Championship title in 2013/14 with 16 goals in 38 league appearances.Vardy found the net just five times during his first season at the top of the pyramid - including twice in the dramatic 5-3 win over Manchester United - but has been instrumental in the Foxes miraculous title charge, including scoring in a record 11 consecutive games to break Ruud van Nistelrooys record. His form at the back end of last season also saw him earn his first international call up under Roy Hodgson and he scored his first England goal with a sublime flick just moments after coming off the bench in a 3-2 away win against world champions Germany in March.Subs - Peter Shilton, Graham Cross, Dave Gibson, Frank Worthington, Emile Heskey. BOSTON -- Dustin Pedroia spent the first month of the season just one home run shy of 100 in his career. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/59-Jersey . Pedroia reached the milestone with a little panache, hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning and propelling the Boston Red Sox to a 7-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. "I was pretty excited to hit a home run. Its been a while," said Pedroia, who had gone 160 at-bats without one. The skid ended when the Red Sox truly needed it, clinging to a 2-1 lead on a night when both clubs were failing to drive in runs. Pedroia drove an 0-2 pitch out to left field in the sixth inning for his second career grand slam and first homer since Sept. 17. "Honestly, I was just trying to drive one run in," Pedroia said. "As a team, weve been scuffling a little bit with guys on." The grand slam put Boston up 6-1 and the cushion was plenty for Clay Buchholz (2-2), who shut down the team with the top record in the American League. Buchholz pitched 6 1-3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five. He walked three and got himself out of several jams as the As left five on base and were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position against Buchholz. "We hit some balls hard. We hit a lot of balls hard, actually -- right at people and then didnt get some hits when we did have some guys on base," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. John Jaso scored Oaklands only run, coming in on a wild pitch after leading off the third with a triple. Boston was having its own struggles with runners on before Pedroia came through in the sixth off of reliever Ryan Cook. Xander Bogaerts and A.J. Pierzynski started the sixth with back-to-back singles off Dan Otero, who began the inning. Otero struck out Will Middlebrooks, then walked Bradley to load the bases with one out. Cook relieved Otero and got Pedroia down 0-2, before he cleared the bases with a shot that just cleared the Green Monster. As manager Bob Melvin challenged whether the ball cleared the yellow line before a fan touched it and lost the appeal. The milestone homer put him in elite Red Sox company as only the second player in franchise history with 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases. Pedroia, who stole his 121st career base in the first inning, joins Carl Yastrzemski (452 home runs, 168 steals). "They told me that after the game. Thats crazy," Pedroia said. "I guess Im getting old. But just having your name anywhere said with his is an accomplishment." Boston hadnt scored since getting a pair of runs in the second inning off starter Dan Straily (1-2). Grady Sizemore led off with a double and scored on Pierzynskis single with one out. Jackie Bradley Jr. added a two-out double to drive in Pierzynski and Boston led 2-0. Straily pitched 4 1-3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out three and walked three. "I felt like every single time, every batter I was behind 2-0. Thats just not the way to pitch," Straily said. "Its just a frustrating day." Bradley ended a potential rally for the As in the eighth with a leaping catch at the centre field wall, then hitting Pedroia with a strong relay throw. Pedroia threw to Mike Napoli as Josh Donaldson scrambled to get back after rounding second before seeing Bradley make the catch. Notes: The series continues Saturday afternoon with Boston LHP Jon Lester (2-4) scheduled to face Oakland lefty Tommy Milone (0-2). .. Oakland played its first game in May after tying the franchise record for wins in April at 18-9. ... Buchholz allowed 12 runs on 20 hits over 6 2-3 innings in his first two starts at Fenway Park this season. ... Boston rookie SS Xander Bogaerts has reached safely in 14 straight games. ... Boston C A.J. Pierzynski was played his 1,700th career game behind the plate. ... Pedroia could catch Yastrzemskis steal total of 168, but Yazs 452 homers are probably out of reach for Bostons pesky second baseman. https://www.houstonfootballshop.com/73-Jersey . The eighth-seeded Raonic broke Granollers four times and saved the only two break points he faced. Relying on his powerful serve and forehand, Raonic made 54 winners to only 14 for Granollers, a clay-court specialist. MONACO -- The rivalry between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton for the Formula One title is turning into a full-blown scrap -- both on and off the track. Rosberg won the Monaco Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday to take the championship lead back from Hamilton, who won the previous four races but was left infuriated by Rosbergs sudden and late accident the day before in qualifying. The win was a fifth straight 1-2 finish for Mercedes, which has swept all six races this season, but thats the only type of harmony in the team. Tension is building, with Hamilton appearing unhappy before, during and after the race. "Its a fierce battle between me and Nico and will continue that way," he said. "Im going to keep my head up and keep pushing." Rosberg drew his teammates ire in qualifying when his late error led to a yellow flag and ended Hamiltons chances of beating his time with a final flying lap. Rosberg denied that he caused the incident intentionally and he was cleared of any wrongdoing by race stewards. He went on to clinch his second victory of the season and fifth of his career, repeating his maiden GP win from pole here in Monaco last year. He leads Hamilton by four points in the drivers standings, 122-118. Ferraris Fernando Alonso, who was fourth, is already 57 points behind Hamilton. "Its a special win, definitely, because Lewis has had the momentum with results," Rosberg said. He finished 9.2 seconds ahead of Hamilton, who was 0.4 faster than Daniel Ricciardos Red Bull. Four-time defending champion Sebastian Vettels frustrating season with Red Bull continued as he abandoned the race on lap eight with a power unit failure. Hamilton and Rosberg raced each other in their junior karting days, but they did not appear to shake hands after the race, and Hamilton looked visibly tense in the post-match race conference as he sat next to Rosberg. He revealed that he and Rosberg had not even been in the post-qualifying debriefing together on Saturday. "Nico did his big debrief before I got there, which is not what we normally do," Hamilton said. "Fortunately the engineers wrote down what Nico said." Even at the drivers prre-race parade they were at opposite ends of the circuit, and now they have six months left together until the end of the season, starting with the Canadian GP in two weeks time. https://www.philadelphiafootballshop.com/35-Jersey. Hamilton said after the race that he "drove fairly all weekend," which sounded like a veiled swipe at Rosberg. During the race, a tense Hamilton snapped back at his team when told that Ricciardo was closing on him. "I dont care about Ricciardo, whats the gap to Nico?" Hamilton said. Hamilton would certainly have attacked more on another track. But overtaking on Monacos tight and narrow 78-lap circuit -- which has the slowest average speed -- is so tough that 10 of the past 11 winners came from pole. The exception was Hamilton in 2008, the year he won the title. Hamilton had sparked the escalation in the rivalry with Rosberg when he questioned his teammates hunger on Thursday as he compared their different childhoods. Rosberg is the son of former F1 driver Keke Rosberg. "I come from a not-great place in Stevenage and lived on a couch in my dads apartment, and Nico grew up in Monaco with jets and hotels and boats," Hamilton said on Thursday. "If I were to come here believing that Nico is hungrier than me then I might as well go home." Later, Hamilton explained what hed meant. "I said what gives me the hunger is where I grew up, in comparison to where Nico grew up," he said. "I was striving to come to live (in Monaco). I used to travel around with Nico on his dads plane, I used to go on his boat, (in) his house. That gave me the desire to want that." The race itself was also eventful as eight drivers failed to finish. The safety car came out on lap one after Sergio Perez was bumped off the track by his former teammate Jenson Buttons McLaren at the Mirabeau turn. The safety car came out again on lap 26 when German driver Adrian Sutils Sauber went into the barriers on the run down to the chicane. Mercedes took the opportunity to pit both their cars, and Hamilton seemed unhappy with the timing. "We should have pitted on that lap (before)," he said. "But I knew you wouldnt call me in, guys." SANTIAGO, Chile -- Chilean midfielder Matias Fernandez needs surgery on his right ankle and will miss the World Cup, another injury blow for the talented South Americans. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/86-Jersey . Fernandez told reporters on Tuesday he would be unable to play in Brazil in three weeks. He said the ankle pain had been there for a long time, and only immediate surgery would fix the problem. Another key midfielder, Arturo Vidal of Italian club Juventus, recently underwent right-knee surgery and is uncertain to make the World Cup. However, team doctors at Juventus have said they are confident he will play. Chile plays its first match on June 13 against Australia. ST. https://www.carolinafootballshop.com/32-Jersey . PAUL, Minn. -- The Chicago Blackhawks have high standards. Two Stanley Cup championships in a four-year span will create that. So their 7-2-3 start to the season is hardly a cause for satisfaction. This payback victory over the Minnesota Wild, at least, provided some reassurance. Patrick Sharp finally scored, Nick Leddy jump-started the stagnant special teams units with a power-play goal and the Blackhawks beat the Wild 5-1 on Monday night. "We havent been playing the way we want to play," said Leddy, a native of nearby Eden Prairie and former Wild first-round draft pick. "We know we can play that way all the time, and I think this gives us some confidence." After giving up 11 goals while losing their previous two games, the Blackhawks played tougher defence, were more disciplined and paid the Wild back for their 5-3 win on Saturday night in Chicago. "We may have had the most consistent game weve had," coach Joel Quenneville said. Corey Crawford made 29 saves, and Sheldon Brookbank, Patrick Kane and Brandon Saad all scored to give the Blackhawks just their third game of more than three goals in 12 contests this season. "It was definitely hard to lose that way at home. They really took it to us, and we were looking to return the favour," Saad said. The Wild were actually in control of the first period despite falling behind early. Then Jason Pominville got a goal, his third in two games, to tie it at 1 midway through the second period. But Niklas Backstrom never found his footing in the net. After making 33 saves against the Blackhawks two days before, his first start following a seven-game absence because of a lower-body injury, Backstrom stopped only 23 shots. Coach Mike Yeo refused to criticize the veterans performance, but he wasnt nearly as strong in the rematch. "We cant sit here and look at that game and say that any player is responsible for that loss," Yeo said. "We had too many guys who werent on top of their game, and when youre playing a team of that calibre, obviously you need a lot of guys not playing just OK games but playing good games, and I dont think we had that tonight." Marian Hossa caught Backstrom looking the wrong way behind the net and fed Sharp for a snap shot from just outside the crease over Backstroms opposite shoulder late in the first period. This was just Sharps second goal of the season. He was quiet last season, too, returning from injury to find his rhythm in the playoffs. "It was nice to put one in. Hopefully that starts something," Sharp said. Late in the second period, Backstrom turned aside Leddys shot, but Kane beat him to the rebound and circled the puck around to the other side where Brookbank was waiting for a slap shot. Backstrom collided with rookie defenceman Matthew Dumba as he was trying to climb up and reposition himself in the crease. Then in the third period, Saad scooted past Dumba on a rush to draw Ryan Suter over in coverage. Saad then pivoted to flick a perfect drop pass to Kane, who skated in front of Dumba to tap in an easy goal and give the Blackhawks a 4-1 lead. The Wild must now decide whether to keep Dumba, their 2012 first-round draft pick, or return him to his junior team. "Im not going to say I didnt think about it at all. Thatd be a lie. I did put that pressure on myself, and I wasnt very happy with my third period tonight," Dumba said. The power play has been only so-so, and the penalty kill has been a bigger early season problem for the Blackhawks, who entered the night last in the NHL with a success rate of only 72.2 per cent. They killed all three opportunities on this night. The Wild fell to 4-1-2 at home this season. They gave up four goals in standard 5-on-5 situations, more than one-third of their league-best total this season. They have allowed 11 in 13 games. "I dont know if they were better prepared than us, but it felt like they were sharper," Backstrom said. NOTES: Brandon Pirri, moved up to centre on the second line, had two assists for the Blackhawks. ... Mikael Granlund assisted on Pominvilles goal for his team-high eighth of the season. ... The Wild were again without two of their top three defencemen, Keith Ballard (seven straight games, upper body) and Jonas Brodin (three straight games, broken cheekbone). ... Hossa has 21 points in 24 career games against the Wild. league-best total this season. They have allowed 11 in 13 games. https://www.carolinafootballshop.com/18-Jersey . - Mike Magee converted two penalty kicks in a 10-minute span of the first half and the Chicago Fire beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Sunday. https://www.carolinafootballshop.com/44-Jersey . Now, the newly minted AL Cy Young Award winner said he will "wait and see" whether hes returning to the Detroit Tigers next year. Scherzer went 21-3 and was an easy pick Wednesday as the American Leagues top pitcher, drawing 28 of 30 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers won the NL Cy Young Award for the second time in three seasons, coming within one vote of a unanimous selection. Scherzer -- like Kershaw -- can become a free agent after the 2014 season, and the Tigers are trying to figure out if they can afford him along with all their other stars such as Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander. Thats prompted talk they might trade Scherzer before opening day. "I love it here in Detroit," Scherzer said on a conference call. "Who wouldnt want to be a part of this?" "The business side will take care of itself," he said. "It really depends on what Detroit wants to do." Scherzer and agent Scott Boras said theyre open to talking to the Tigers about an extension. Scherzer lost only three times this season and was the lone 20-game winner in baseball. He ranked second in the majors with 240 strikeouts and was fifth in the AL with a 2.90 ERA. The 29-year-old righty smiled and raised both arms Wednesday when the Cy Young results were announced. "Its unbelievable. It just vindicates everything Ive done," Scherzer said, acknowledging all the run support he received from Detroits powerful lineup probably helped his candidacy. "Ive been working so hard all these years to get better and better," he added. "I think I took a big step forward in 2013." Yu Darvish of the Texas Rangers was second, marking the highest finish by a Japanese-born pitcher in Cy Young voting. Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners came in third. "It was an honour to be a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award," Darvish said in a statement. "Both Max Scherzer and Hisashi Iwakuma had tremendous seasons. Max is a very deserving winner." Texas is the only AL team thats never won a Cy Young Award. Before Darvish and Iwakuma, the highest Cy Young finishes for Japanese pitchers had been fourth place, by Hideo Nomo in the NL in 1995 and 1996, and by Daisuke Matsuzaka in the AL in 2008. "It is such an honour to be one of the finalists for the best award as a pitcherr," Iwakuma said in a statement before the voting totals were released. https://www.carolinafootballshop.com/7-Jersey. "I had never thought I would become a finalist here in the U.S., so this is very special to me and is a big surprise." Scherzer won his first 13 decisions of the season and made the All-Star team for the first time. He helped pitch the Tigers to their third straight AL Central title, joined in a deep rotation by Verlander, the 2011 AL Cy Young Award winner, Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister. Scherzer went 16-7 last year, then added a curveball to an impressive repertoire that already included a hard fastball, slider and changeup. He beat Oakland as a starter and in relief during the AL division series, then went 0-1 in two starts against Boston in the AL championship series -- he was pulled both times with the Tigers ahead. Scherzer is distinctive for more than just his record. His eyes are different colours, with the right blue and left brown. Hes also unusual for another reason: Hes made 174 regular-season and post-season starts for Detroit and Arizona, yet has never pitched a complete game. Scherzer threw eight innings on seven occasions this year, and sometimes was taken out with a big lead. His big strikeout totals tend to run up his pitch counts, and he said he wants to be more efficient in the future. And maybe even pitch a complete game. "It is definitely something I want to achieve," he said. "To throw a complete game, you have to have the right context of the game." Darvish led the majors with 277 strikeouts and went 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA. Iwakuma was 14-6 with a 2.66 ERA and 185 strikeouts for the Mariners. Sanchez was fourth and Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox was fifth. They each got a first-place vote. Kershaw won his second prize as the National Leagues best pitcher after posting a 1.83 ERA -- lowest in the majors in 13 years. "This is such a cool thing. I cant even explain what it means to me," he said in an interview on MLB Network. "It really is a huge honour." The 25-year-old lefty with a big-breaking curve drew 29 of 30 first-place votes. Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals was picked first on one ballot and finished second. Kershaw went 16-9 and topped the NL with 232 strikeouts. He also won the Cy Young Award in 2011 and finished second last year to knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. Darvish gets a $200,000 bonus and a $1 million raise to $11 million next season. Wainwright gets a $100,000 bonus and Sale gets $60,000 for finishing fifth. The AL and NL Most Valuable Player awards will be presented Thursday. ' ' '
ATZENBRUGG, Austria - Englands Adam Gee and Swedens Mikael Lundberg shot 5-under 67 to share a one-stroke lead on a windy and cloudy opening day of the Lyoness Open on Thursday. https://www.nycityfootballshop.com/94-Jersey . Starting on the back nine, Gee eagled the par-4 14th hole but bogeyed the 18th before carding three birdies on the front nine. Lundberg hit six birdies and lost a stroke on the par-3 second. The Swede, who came through the European Tour Qualifying School for a third straight year, is looking for his first title since winning the Russian Open for a second time in 2008. Lundberg said hes improved since working with new coach Neil Jordan: "I am more solid from the tee onto the green. You have to be careful out there, and dont take unnecessary chances." The pair led a group of four which finished at 4 under, including Wales Rhys Davies, Englands Richard Finch and Mattew Baldwin, and American Berry Henson. Defending champion Joost Luiten from the Netherlands hit three birdies in his opening four holes. Later, however, he struggled to hit the fairways and dropped to 1 over before finishing his round level par with his fourth birdie on the 17th. Miguel Angel Jimenez overcame three bogeys in the first eight holes to card a 2-under 70. The 50-year-old Spaniard, who resides in Vienna since marrying an Austrian in May, is seeking his third win of the season. Starting on the back nine, he bogeyed the par-4 11th and 17th and the par-3 14th but recovered with four birdies. "Its OK, its under par," Jimenez said. "Its not easy because of the wind." Former champions Jeev Milkha Singh of India, Kenneth Ferrie of England, and Bernd Wiesberger of Austria each shot a 71. https://www.nycityfootballshop.com/19-Jersey . Ontario Superior Court Case Management Master Ronald Dash released the decision on Monday, saying John McCaw Jr. must testify in front of a jury by live video conference. At least he kept the lead.McDowell rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on the 10th hole Saturday that stretched his lead to four shots. That was his final birdie on a cold, grey afternoon at Sheshan International. He finished with a 1-under 71 and saw his lead dwindle to a single shot over Hiroshi Iwata of Japan.U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer and Masters champion Bubba Watson were two shots back.Lets be honest. Yes, I had a three-shot lead overnight and its only one now, McDowell said. But Ill take this position any week that you offer it to me — a one-shot lead going into the last round on a golf course that I enjoy. Looking forward to the opportunity tomorrow.McDowell was at 11-under 205.He will try to complete a wire-to-wire victory for his first World Golf Championship. If Saturday was any indication, it wont be easy. Not only did he lose ground on the back nine by making mostly pars, several players got back into the mix.Rickie Fowler overcame a double bogey on No. 9 with a 32 on the back nine for a 69. He was three shots behind, along with Tim Clark (69). Ian Poulter wasnt at his best with the putter and had to settle for a 72, though he remained in the mix just four shots behind with Thorbjorn Olesen (69).Iwata was a gate-crasher on a leaderboard top-heavy with major champions. McDowell had never heard of him until this week, and only saw him swing the club once in the group ahead. He referred to him as one of the great young players from Japan, unaware that he was 33 and in his 10th full season on the Japan Golf Tour.He cant be faulted for that. Iwata has one career victory — the Fujisankei Classic — and that was only two months ago.But he made six birdies on a day when the ball wasnt going anywhere, and neither were the players. It took some 5 1/2 hours to complete the round. Iwata rolled in a long birdie putt on the 18th hole for a 68 that put him in the final group.Maybe tomorrow coming up the last few holes, I might get a little bit nervous, but so far Im calm, Iwata said. So I think Im doing OK.Kaymer won the HSBC Champions three years ago by closing with a 63, and the German showed he was up to that kind of performance again.. https://www.nycityfootballshop.com/60-Jersey. He made seven birdies against only one bogey for a 66 that put him in the last group with McDowell and Iwata.Watson looked powerful as ever and might be leading if not for one troublesome patch at the start of the back nine. With a sand wedge, Watson came up woefully short and caught a plugged lie in the bunker. He blasted out some 40 feet away and three-putted for a double bogey. He missed a short par putt two holes later. As usual, the final stretch at Sheshan International saved him.Watson hit his approach to 2 feet on the tough 15th, hit wedge to 3 feet on the 16th for another birdie, and then gouged out a wedge from deep rough that awed the Chinese crowd when it descended from the grey sky and plopped down next to the cup for a final tap-in birdie and a 69.A couple three-putts today and a double bogey. Thats sad, Watson said. But the birdies down the stretch really helped out.Not to be forgotten was his best shot of the day, a long iron over the creek that nearly went into the hole for an albatross 2 on the par-5 eighth hole. The ball settled just over 3 feet from the hole, except that Watson missed that and had to settle for a birdie.McDowell had a long three-putt bogey on No. 8 and his lead was down to two shots. But on the 10th, it appeared order would be restored. McDowell rolled in the 30-foot birdie putt up the ridge as Watson was taking double bogey, and the lead suddenly was four shots.Thats as large as it got.McDowell really only missed on a couple of shots. He faced 240 yards to a narrow opening to the green on the par-5 14th. Wanting to avoid the bunker just left of the green, he pulled it into deep rough and took away his chances of an easy up-and-down. He also hit a sand wedge some 25 feet beyond the cup on the short 16th, where Watson and Poulter birdied to close the gap.I felt maybe a tiny bit negative coming in, McDowell said. But when I went back and sort of thought through my round, you know, it was difficult. ... I wouldnt say I felt loose coming in, but I also knew it wasnt something I had to start protecting. I hit a lot of good putts today that didnt go in, and thats probably the main difference between shooting 1 under and 3 or 4 under today. ' ' '
SALT LAKE CITY - Playing a complete game on offence has almost become a trademark for Dallas early in the season. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/91-Jersey . The Mavericks have built an identity around high scoring and efficient shooting. The Mavericks finally got to see their defence enjoy the same experience against Utah. From start to finish in a 105-82 victory on Friday night, Dallas allowed room for the Jazz to create any sustained offensive rhythm.Utah committed 23 turnovers and the Mavericks enjoyed a 32-9 advantage in points off turnovers. That kept the Jazz from threatening any serious rally after halftime. Our defence has been solid over halves, but it hasnt been solid over whole games, Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki said. We wanted to make sure wed keep up and keep pressure on them.Nowitzki made the defensive effort count on the other end. He scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The veteran all-star now has 26,913 career points, moving within 33 points of Hakeem Olajuwon on the NBA all-time scoring list. Those points came from making smart and efficient plays. Nowitzki shot 11 of 18, including 5 for 8 from 3-point range.Everybody better enjoy watching Dirk Nowitzki while hes still playing, because theres not going to be another one like him ever, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. This is a once-in-a-lifetime guy and hes a total game changer.Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Monta Ellis scored 13 as the Mavericks bounced back from a loss to Portland one night earlier.Alec Burks led the Jazz with 14 points. Gordon Hayward had 12, Trey Burke and Dante Exum added 11 apiece for Utah.Theyre obviously an excellent offensive team, Jazz coach Quin Snyder said. They execute very well and I thought we just wore down defensively when we didnt see the ball go in the basket. It all started when Dallas forced eight turnovers in the first quarter and scored 13 points off those miscues. The Jazz also missed eight of their first 12 shots from the field to help the Mavericks get a fast start. When you turn the ball over against a good team like that, it slims your chances of winning, Burke said. Its something we have to get better at each and every day. Well watch film on it tomorrow and see where we could have played better and learn from it.Nowitzki drained a 3-pointer - the last of four baskets in five possessions for Dallas - to spark an 11-2 run that gave the Mavericks a 22-10 lead with 2:46 left in the first. Utah got on track late in the quarter and cut the deficit to 24-23 early in the second.Once the Jazz made it a one-possession game, Nowitzki went to work again. He scored three baskets and fed Chandler for another layup to fuel a 15-2 spurt that put the Mavericks up 39-25.Utah rallied a second time, cutting it to five on back-to-back 3s from Hayward and Burke. But Nowitzki hit another 3-pointer and Chandler scored on a dunk less than a minute later to put Dallas back ahead by double digits at 45-34.I just liked the vibe of the team, Carlisle said. The ball was moving, the execution was good, guys were into it on both ends the whole night. The Mavericks solidified their control after halftime by scoring nine unanswered points to open the third quarter. Chandler Parsons capped the run with a pair of free throws to give Dallas a 61-44 lead.Nowitzki hit another 3-pointer to cap a run of baskets on three straight possessions that pushed the Mavericks to an 85-62 lead early in the fourth. We played better defence, Parsons said. We were all locked in and we all made an effort that we were going to defend tonight - especially coming out in the second half. And it showed. When we get stops like that, it fuels our offence.___TIP-INSMavericks: Dallas has won seven consecutive regular-season games against the Jazz. The Mavericks went 4-0 vs. Utah last season and have won three straight in Salt Lake City. . Nowitzki is tearing it up through the Mavericks first six games. He is averaging a team-best 21.2 points while shooting 54.4 per cent from the field — including 44.8 per cent from 3-point range. Dallas is averaging 11.2 turnovers per game. The Mavericks had just eight against Utah.Jazz: Two weeks after claiming Jordan Hamilton off waivers, the Jazz parted ways with the forward. Utah placed Hamilton on waivers Thursday. The 6-foot-7 forward, in his fifth season out of Texas, was inactive for each of the teams first five games. ... Utah struggled from the perimeter early in the game. The Jazz started 0 for 10 from 3-point range before Hayward broke the ice midway through the second quarter. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Matt Dominguez took no offence when the Angels intentionally walked a .247-hitting catcher so they could pitch to him in the seventh inning of a tie game. After all, playing for the Houston Astros these days is filled with all types of indignities. On the very next pitch, Dominguez took a swing that thrilled his family and capped the Astros best week in a long while. Dominguez hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, and Houston won back-to-back series for the first time in nearly two months with a 7-5 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday. Dominguez tied his career high with four hits in his native Southern California, while L.J. Hoes had his first career homer among his three hits in the major league-worst Astros fourth win in six games. Dominguez homered after Angels reliever Juan Gutierrez (0-4) walked Carlos Corporan, and the Astros hung on to their seventh win over Los Angeles this season. "They just wanted a matchup, I think," said Dominguez, a San Fernando Valley native who left 15 tickets for family. "He hung the slider, and I got it good. Feels good. I guess they had confidence they could get me out more than they did Carlos. Thats how baseball is. No hard feelings or anything. Ill just go up and try to do what I can." Slowly, the young Astros are getting things done. They scored 20 runs while taking two of three games at the Big A, winning with offence after a pitching-dominated series earlier in the week in Oakland, where they also took two of three from the Athletics. "At some point, were going to start to get our breaks," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "Were swinging the bats real well, and were getting good starting pitching." Brett Oberholtzer (3-1) blew an early three-run lead, but pitched six effective innings during Houstons sixth win in seven games at Angel Stadium. He gave up seven hits and struck out four in his fourth major league start, even retiring nine of his final 10 batters after Hamiltons tying homer. Oberholtzer attributes the Astros recent success to "staying loose. I think were playing with a little swagger, a little confidence about ourselves." Thats in short supply for the Angels (55-68), who have lost 11 of 16 and 23 of 34 -- yet Houston (41-82) is still 14 games behind Los Angeles for fourth place in the AL West. Mike Trout had two hits for the Angels before leaving in the sixth inning with rightt hamstring tightness. https://www.miamishopfootballshop.com/28-Jersey. Josh Hamilton homered and tripled for Los Angeles to follow up his extra-inning homer Saturday night, while Mark Trumbo drove in three runs and hit his 28th homer late in the Angels sixth loss in eight games. "Its frustrating losing to anybody," said Hamilton, who delivered his 19th homer. "It doesnt matter who it is. If it was the Yankees in here today, or the Rangers, it would be just as frustrating. Its one of those things where youre playing a team with that kind of a record, but you dont want to relax or take anything for granted. Im not saying that were doing that, but some years, some teams have your number. Thats how it goes." Trout went 2 for 3 with a third-inning double, but left the game after flying out in the fifth. The Angels All-Star outfielder reached base for the 40th straight game, extending the majors longest current streak. "Its all right. Im just sore," said Trout, second in the AL at with a .333 average. "Its not like it popped or anything. It was just a little grabbing, so it shouldnt be too serious. ... Ill see how it is tomorrow. I came out just because I didnt want it to get worse. Its definitely frustrating when you cant be out there. For me as a speed guy, Ive got to take care of my legs." Houston boosted its lead to 7-3 in the eighth on Jose Altuves sacrifice fly. Trumbo trimmed the deficit with his two-run shot to left off Jordan Lyles, the Astros scheduled Monday starter, who pitched 2 1-3 innings of relief before leaving with two runners on in the ninth. Rookie Kevin Chapman got pinch-hitter Peter Bourjos to ground into a game-ending double play, earning his first career save. Jason Vargas recovered from an awful beginning to his first home start in two months to pitch into the sixth for the Angels, allowing seven hits -- all in the first three innings. The left-hander walked three and struck out three in his second start since returning from injury. Hoes homered in his 19th major league game, drilling a one-out shot in the first inning. MINNEAPOLIS -- After 10 straight fastballs with the home crowd cheering and the bases loaded behind him, Jose Quintana threw an 80-mph curveball to freeze Ryan Doumit. Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale . Home plate umpire Bill Miller called strike three, the crowd groaned loudly and Quintana calmly went back to the Chicago White Sox dugout. After that, Quintana made it look easy the rest of the way, Adam Dunn and Jeff Keppinger both homered and Chicago beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 on Friday night to snap its 10-game road losing streak. It was a far cry from Quintanas last start -- a five-run, five-inning outing Sunday against the Twins in Chicago. "The only thing (I) did was try to attack early," Quintana said through a translator. "(I) tried to come in and attack earlier, throw strikes to every single one of the batters, and thankfully everything worked out. (I) was able to get them back." Quintana (7-4) scattered six hits over 6 2-3 innings, giving up two runs and striking out seven. Joe Mauer homered in the first for Minnesota, but Keppinger and Dunn both hit solo shots off Twins starter Kevin Correia (8-9) in the third to make it 4-1. "They got us pretty good at home," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "We havent had too many of those where weve hit them like that. It was nice." A night after watching the Twins win by a run in walk-off fashion, the White Sox and Quintana looked to be in for yet another rough outing when Mauer lined a 3-2 offering into the right-field seats to put Minnesota up 1-0. Mauer also had homered off Quintana on Sunday. And considering Quintanas 4.21 run support average coming in, the 15th-lowest in the AL this season, things didnt look very promising. But Dayan Viciedo put Chicago up with a two-RBI single in the second before Keppinger and Dunn added all the insurance runs Quintana needed. "Their guy threw the ball really well," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "It was coming out of his hand really nice. He mixes pitches well. The guys were saying hes very deceptive and has a little jump on his fastball." Quintana set the Twins down in order three times. But his biggest test came in the third when the Twins loaded the bases with two outs in the third and Doumit came to the plate. "Seems like it lasted what a normal inning would last," Ventura said. "He just kind of gutted it out and went extra-long for us tonight." Quintana is 3-0 on the road this season. Correia pitched well aside from the third inning, retiring 12 of the 14 batters he faced after Dunns homer. "I felt like my stuff was good," Correia said. "I think thats just how baseball is sometimes. Sometimes they hit it to people, sometimes they miss a mistake. The second time around, theyre usually not going to miss any many mistakes." Minnesota added a run in the seventh when Brian Dozier drove in Wilkin Ramirez on a two-out single to chase Quintana. Reliever Donnie Veal walked Mauer but struck out Justin Morneau to end the inning. Chicago made it 5-2 in the eighth when Trevor Plouffes bad throw from third hit Paul Konerko, allowing Keppinger to score. The dull draw is likely to be Ryan Giggs last match in charge of United as interim coach. With Southampton guaranteed an eighth-place finish and United heading into the game with only the slightest possibility of European qualifying, this game had long lost any meaningful intrigue. The hosts dominated the opening 45 minutes and Rickie Lambert put Southampton into a deserved first-half lead. Nemanja Vidic, making his last appearance for United, could only head a long ball into the path of Steven Davis under pressure from Lambert, who was then picked out to slot home his 13th league goal of the season in the 28th. Uniteds players gathered around referee Mike Dean after the goal as Vidic had a bloody nose after the clash with Lambert in the build-up. Juan Matas free kick nine minutes after the interval was enough to earn United a point. With the managerial futures of both Giggs and Southampton counterpart Mauricio Pochettino unclear, it is likely two new coaches will be brought in -- and for Saints their main challenge will be replacing a seemingly Liverpool-bound Adam Lallana. The 26-year-old is reportedly the target of a big bid from Anfield and Lallana once again showed how he can cut it against some of the best players in the league. Giggs made seven changes from the midweek win over Hull as he recalled Vidic for his final game. But it proved to be a difficult outing for the man who will be lining up for Inter Milan next year as he and his defensive partner Rio Ferdinand, another who could well be departing Old Trafford, struggled to contain Southamptons rampant frontmen in the opening 45 minutes. Giggs reacted to a mediocre first half by replacing Shinji Kagawa with Michael Carrick and, after his side had started the second half on top, it soon drew level. Danny Welbeck was bundled to the ground by Victor Wanyama and Mata curled the resulting free kick well out of the reach of Boruc. ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- David Ortiz homered twice for the second straight game and the Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 9-4 on Wednesday night. https://www.losangelesfootballshop.com/74-Jersey . Big Papi went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, one night after a four-hit performance against his former team. Both of his homeruns -- off Kevin Correia (1-5) in the third and Caleb Theilbar in the fifth -- travelled more than 400 feet into the right-field upper deck at Target Field, where hes batting .528 (28 of 53) in 13 career games. It was more than enough for Felix Doubront (2-3), who allowed a run on seven hits in 6 1-3 innings and retired nine straight at one point. Doubront hadnt won since April 3 at Baltimore, his first start of the season. Ortiz, who also doubled in the first inning, moved into sole possession of third place on Bostons all-time homers list (384) and recorded his 43rd career multi-homer game, 41 of which have come with the Red Sox. Even the Minnesota fans -- many of whom likely remember some of the 58 homers he hit with the Twins from 1997-2002 -- appreciated Ortizs display of power, politely standing and clapping as he rounded the bases after his second homer put Boston up 6-1 in the fifth. Trevor Plouffe hit his second homer of the year for Minnesota, a two-run shot in the ninth. Joe Mauers sacrifice fly in the third scored Eduardo Escobar. Minnesota added an unearned run in the eighth after a throwing error by Burke Badenhop from the mound allowed Chris Parmelee to reach third, He eventually scored on Eduardo Nunezs RBI single. Grady Sizemore had two hits and a pair of RBIs; Dustin Pedroia, Mike Napoli and Will Middlebrooks each drove in a run for Boston. A.J. Pierzynski added a two-run double in the ninth. Notes: Ortizs 442 homers moved him into a tie with Dave Kingman for 39th place on baseballs all-time home run list. . The Twins reinstated OF Oswaldo Arcia from the 15-day DL and optioned him to Triple-A Rochester. Arcia missed 33 games with a right wrist strain before playing a 12-game rehab assignment in Rochester. ... Friday will be a big day for injured Twins players in Rochester. Manager Ron Gardenhire said OF Josh Willingham (broken wrist) will start a rehab assignment, and RHP Mike Pelfrey (groin) will start on Friday for the Red Wings. . The teams will play the rubber third game of their series Thursday when Clay Buchholz (2-3) -- who is 3-1 in seven career starts against Minnesota -- takes the mound for Boston. The Twins Phil Hughes (4-1) will try for his fifth straight win https://www.losangelesfootballshop.com/24-Jersey . But that changed when he committed a five-minute major penalty and helped pave the way for a comeback by the Philadelphia Flyers. Vincent Lecavalier scored at 2:45 of overtime and the Flyers rallied from a two-goal deficit for a 5-4 victory on Sunday. https://www.losangelesfootballshop.com/75-Jersey . On July 27 cyclings best-known race will host "La Course by Le Tour de France" -- a one-day womens competition staged hours before Tour riders race on the same circuit to finish the three-week event on Paris Champs-Elysees.JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. Lynch took questions for about 7 1/2 minutes during the morning session, his longest such stretch this week. He talked for less than 7 minutes at both media day on Tuesday and the media session at the team hotel on Wednesday. "Its going to be good to get back to football," Lynch said. "Real good." Lynch limited his answers to football-related questions, all with Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson by his side. Robinson joked as he sat down that he was just a prop. Lynchs aversion to speaking with the media had become a major focal point as the Seahawks started their preparations for Sundays game against Denver. While Seattle was getting attention last week for the comments made by Richard Sherman during the NFC championship game, this week it was about Lynchs reluctance to open his mouth. His teammates were supportive of their teammate wanting to stay quiet. "I think he shouldnt have to do everything that he doesnt feel comfortable with," Sherman said. "But myself, Im fine with it. I enjoy it. I enjoy getting the message out that I want to get out, and I enjoy supporting my teammates. The great Marshawn Lynch, I think his game speaks for itself. https://www.losangelesfootballshop.com/66-Jersey. It says enough for everybody to talk about for weeks and weeks." Even with only talking for a few minutes, Lynch managed to make an attention grabbing statement. Asked what he thought about assistant head coach Tom Cable when he arrived in 2011, Lynch made reference to a reported incident with an assistant coach when Cable was Oaklands head coach in 2009. "Well, being from Oakland, all I knew about him was that he punched people," Lynch said. "Thats my type of person." It was unclear if Lynch was joking or being serious with his comment about Cable. Some of Lynchs best games have come in the post-season. He has four 100-yard rushing games in six career post-season games. He ran for 140 yards in the divisional round win over New Orleans and had 109 yards in the NFC title game against San Francisco. "Im not sure man. Its not like I prepare any different. I couldnt tell you," Lynch said. Lynch was also asked about Denvers defence and its focus on trying to shut down Seattles run game. The Broncos have allowed one back to top 100 yards rushing this season. Lynch made sure to point out defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, nicknamed "Pot Roast." "Big boy," Lynch said. "They get to the ball. They run into the ball. Theyre a good defence, thats what I say." ' ' '
MANKATO, Minn. Wholesale MLB Jerseys . - In the final game of last season, and the final game of Rick Adelmans coaching career, Kevin Martin went down swinging. While most of the Minnesota Timberwolves slogged through one last game in a massively disappointing season, Martin went after the Utah Jazz. He scored a season-high 36 points, attacked the rim to get to the free throw line for 10 shots and even came up with a couple of steals before fouling out in a rare show of aggression on the defensive end from him. Martin was one of the few players on the roster who had a long history with Adelman, having played for him in Sacramento and Houston as well, and he didnt want to see his coach end his career with a loss. Looking back on it now, it was an approach that Martin wishes he wouldve taken much more often during his first season in Minnesota. The clarity came after a phone call this summer from Wolves owner Glen Taylor, who signed Martin to a four-year, $28 million contract. With Kevin Love traded to Cleveland and youngsters Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and Anthony Bennett on their way in, Taylor needed Martin to start acting like the accomplished veteran he is and setting a far different tone in practices and in games. Thats when I really had to get my mind right on what kind of situation I was going to have to be in because in the past three or four years Ive been riding these superstars coat tails a€” Kevin Love, Kevin Durant, Russell (Westbrook). ... Its been good the last five years. Now youre in this role that you have to be that big brother. You know theyre going to be looking up to you. So I cant get away with the stuff Ive been getting away with for the last five or six years. Its a new challenge, but I accept it and Im ready to go. When Martin signed with the Timberwolves, he said he did so in large part because of Love. Martin learned while playing in Oklahoma City with Durant and Westbrook that life was far easier on a player when he isnt the focal point of an opposing defence, when he can just camp out at the 3-point line and wait for the kick-out pass from an All-Star who demands double teams in the paint. In Minnesota, Martin delivered a solid if uninspiring offensive season, averaging 19.1 points and shooting 38.7 per cent on 3s. Despite averaging more than five more minutes of playing time per game than he did as a reserve with the Thunder the previous year, Martin only saw his free throw attempts rise by fewer than two per game, a sign that he wasnt being the aggressive, crafty scorer that the Wolves hoped he would reprise while returning to the starting lineup. He didnt rebound. He didnt play defence. And, according to him, he didnt give it his all in practice, either. Im used to playing with a lot of veteran players where we can cut corners in camps and in practices, Martin said, before adding he couldnt afford to do that anymore with so many impressionable youngsters on the Wolves roster. Just showing them the right way. Be there for every drill I can be there with them. Just take this game very serious and not just rely on our talent to get us to where we want to be. The call from Taylor woke Martin up a bit. Its the first time hes ever received a phone call from an owner in 11 seasons in the league. He arranged a 7 a.m. breakfast with Wiggins and LaVine, two dynamic, 19-year-old wing players, and cautioned them to avoid the pitfalls that have ensnared NFL stars Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice in recent weeks. I told them if they fail, I fail, Martin said. I have to keep them on a narrow path, just like people like Bobby Jackson did for me to make me have a successful career. Martins efforts were met warmly by the two rookies, who are about to enter a world in which they are wholly unfamiliar. Im going to learn a lot from him, LaVine said. Hes going to take me and Drew under his wing and you know, hes got a lot to teach us. MLB Jerseys 2022 . After a tight first half, the Croatians took command in Reykjavik after Skulason was dismissed for a professional foul in the 51st minute, but couldnt find a way past Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson and his packed defence. Eduardo had a weak shot cleared away from near the goalline after barely a minute for Croatia, whose substitute Ivica Olic forced a fine reaction save from Halldorsson in the 55th. MLB Jerseys 2021 . Horford put Florida ahead with his slam, then Kasey Hill connected twice from the free throw line to extend the lead to four. Ongwae countered with a bucket on the other end. ULM, forced to foul, sent Hill, Chiozza and Frazier to the line in the final 15 seconds. They made just 3-of-6 free shots, but it was enough to emerge with the win. The visitors led from the outset, taking an 8-4 lead early before the hosts awoke and shifted momentum for a 12-10 edge. The Warhawks then reeled offf 13 in a row to go up by 11 with just over eight minutes left in the first half and extended the lead to 26-14 on a Marvin Williams triple less than a minute later. MLB Jerseys China. Florida closed the half on a 13-3 clip, drawing to 29-27 after a shot from long range by Chiozza. Williams layup moved ULMs margin to 35-29 early in the second half, before another momentum swing from Florida resulted in a 15-0 burst that produced a 44-35 lead on a Chiozza layup with 8:45 to play. The Warhawks refused to go quietly, whittling their deficit from there until Jamaal Samuel and Coppola sank consecutive triples to send the game beyond regulation. Game Notes Louisiana-Monroe shot just 32.8 percent from the floor, but Florida connected on just 32.7 percent of its field goals ... The Warhawks only took eight shots at the charity stripe, while the Gators were afforded 32 opportunities ... They were right in that they responded to coach Randy Carlyles goaltending switch to erase a two-goal deficit. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/13-Jersey . And all things considered, the first 40 games have offered a little bit of everything from a hockey club that faced many questions in its first year under new management, with a new head coach and with a number of new faces in the lineup. However, with a recent dip in scoring, it seems some of the same old questions persist and several new ones have been raised after a somewhat troubling homestand.OTTAWA -- Theres nothing like beating the defending Stanley Cup champions to gain a little confidence. Craig Anderson stopped 46 shots in his first game back since being injured Mar. 10 as the Ottawa Senators beat the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 on Friday. "We found a way to win and thats all that really matters," said Anderson. "It felt good to come back from my whatever injury. Got back in there, get back in the saddle and it was good to see a lot of shots so you didnt have time to think and you just kind of read and react so it was really good." Clarke MacArthur had a goal and two assists to lead the charge while Erik Condra, Cody Ceci, Milan Michalek and Kyle Turris each scored for the Senators (30-29-14) Patrick Sharp, Marian Hossa and Brent Seabrook scored for Chicago (42-18-15). Antti Raanta faced 29 shots. Chicago has lost three of its last four outings and captain Jonathan Toews says there are too many mistakes happening when his team has possession of the puck. "Id say there was some good moments where we did have control of the puck where we were getting point shots and second efforts and some of the things were looking for when were playing good hockey," said Toews. "Other than that it was sloppy turnovers, sloppy mistakes that we really need to get out of our system. We need to get those plays out of our game. Its as simple as that. We need to play some character hockey. Frustrating way to lose." Toews wasnt alone in thinking the Blackhawks failed to show their best effort. "I didnt like our game," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. "We had a good start and obviously giving up a shorthanded (goal) right off the bat they got some momentum off it and played well." Ottawa scored twice in the third and killed off a 34 second two-man advantage to hold off the Blackhawks before a crowd of 18,922 at the Canadian Tire Centre. Turris made it 4-2 with a power-play goal at the six-minute mark of the third and MacArthur scored his 23rd of the season midway through the period to make it 5-2. "I thought we competed better," said MacArthur. "We had a little lapse in the second, but youre playing Chicago and theyre going to make a push, but we were able to make plays in the third and not clam up. https://www.washingtonfootballshop.com/Customized. " Frustration started to set in for Chicago midway through the third when Andrew Shaw speared Zack Smith. Shaw was assessed a major and game misconduct for his actions. After the game Smith admitted he was less than impressed by the play. "A spear is always looked upon as pretty bad for someone to do," said Smith. "Its kind of a cheap shot, especially where he was aiming, but you saw the replay." The Blackhawks made it 5-3 with a shorthanded goal at the 17-minute mark as Seabrooks shot from the point just trickled across the goal-line. Ottawa jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but by the end of the second it was a one-goal game. The Senators were outshot 23-5 in the middle period. Chicago got on the board midway through the second with a power-play goal as Sharp took a great pass from Jonathan Toews and tipped it past Anderson. Hossa made it 3-2 when he scored with 41 seconds remaining in the second period. Hossa intercepted a pass at the Ottawa blue-line, cut through two defencemen and squeezed the puck past Anderson. Ottawa had made it 3-0 just 23 seconds into the second as Michalek tipped in a shot off a pass from Spezza. "I thought we had a little more confidence," added MacArthur. "I thought overall we had a little lapse and those are going to happen, but we answered back in the third which is big and I thought our (defencemen) moved the puck a lot better, especially in the third when we were under pressure." The Senators held a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. Condra made it 1-0, scoring shorthanded midway through the first. And Ceci made it 2-0 in the final minute of the period as he scored from just inside the blue line. Notes: The Senators were without D Chris Phillips who missed his second straight game and RW Bobby Ryan (sports hernia, out for season). LW Matt Kassian was a healthy scratcha The Blackhawks are without RW Patrick Kane (lower body, two weeks), LW Bryan Bickell (upper body, day-to-day) and D Michal Rozsival (lower body, day-to-day). Via Twitter, 49ers CEO Jed York denied that was true. Pettine said Saturday the issue "has no bearing" on his job. The Browns didnt deny their attempt to acquire Harbaugh, but Pettine said that didnt bother him, either. He said he thought that shows the organizations commitment to turning around the struggling franchise. Harbaugh has led the 49ers to three straight NFC championship games, but they lost their only Super Bowl appearance with him.
