ATTLEBORO, Mass. Stitched Flames Jerseys . -- In the final minutes of his life, Odin Lloyd sent a series of texts to his sister. "Did you see who I was with?" said the first, at 3:07 a.m. June 17. "Who?" she finally replied. "NFL," he texted back, then added: "Just so you know." It was 3:23 a.m. Moments later, Lloyd would be dead in what a prosecutor called an execution-style shooting orchestrated by New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez because his friend talked to the wrong people at a nightclub. Hernandez was charged Wednesday with murder. Hernandez was cut from the NFL team less than two hours after he was arrested and led from his North Attleborough home in handcuffs, and nine days after Lloyds body was discovered by a jogger in a remote area of an industrial park not far from Hernandezs home. The 2011 Pro Bowl selection had signed a five-year contract last summer with the Patriots worth $40 million. His lawyer, Michael Fee, called the case circumstantial during a Wednesday afternoon court hearing packed with news reporters, curiosity seekers and police officers. Fee said there was a "rather hysterical atmosphere" surrounding the case and urged the judge to disregard his clients celebrity status as he asked for Hernandez, 23, to be released on bail. The judge, though, ordered Hernandez held without bail on the murder charge and five weapons counts. If convicted, Hernandez could get life in prison without parole. Hernandez stood impassively with his hands cuffed in front of him as Bristol County Assistant District Attorney Bill McCauley laid out a detailed timeline of the events, cobbled together from sources including witnesses, surveillance video, text messages and data from cellphone towers. Lloyd, 27, a semi-pro football player with the Boston Bandits, had known Hernandez about a year and was dating the sister of Hernandezs fiancee, the mother of Hernandezs 8-month-old baby, McCauley said. On June 14, Lloyd went with Hernandez to a Boston club, Rumor. McCauley said Hernandez was upset Lloyd had talked to people there with whom Hernandez had trouble. He did not elaborate. Two days later, McCauley said, on June 16, Hernandez texted two unidentified friends. He asked them to hurry to Massachusetts from Connecticut. At 9:05 p.m., a few minutes after the first message to his friends, Hernandez texted Lloyd, telling him he wanted to get together, McCauley said. Later, surveillance footage from Hernandezs home showed his friends arrive and go inside. Hernandez, holding a gun, then told someone in the house he was upset and couldnt trust anyone anymore, the prosecutor said. At 1:12 a.m., the three left in Hernandezs rented silver Nissan Altima, McCauley said. Cell towers tracked their movements to a gas station off the highway. There, he said, Hernandez bought blue Bubblicious cotton candy gum. At 2:32 a.m., they arrived outside Lloyds home in Boston and texted him that they were there. McCauley said Lloyds sister saw him get into Hernandezs car. From there, surveillance cameras captured images of what the prosecutor said was Hernandez driving the silver Altima through the city of Boston. As they drove back toward North Attleborough, Hernandez told Lloyd he was upset about what happened at the club and didnt trust him, McCauley said. That was when Lloyd began sending texts to his sister. Surveillance video showed the car entering the industrial park and at 3:23 a.m. driving down a gravel road near where Lloyds body was found. Four minutes later, McCauley said, the car emerges. During that period, employees working an overnight shift nearby heard several gunshots, McCauley said. McCauley said Lloyd was shot multiple times, including twice from above as he was lying on the ground. He said five .45 calibre casings were found at the scene. Authorities did not say who fired the shots or identify the two others with Hernandez. At 3:29 a.m., surveillance at Hernandezs house shows him arriving, McCauley said. "The defendant was walking through the house with a gun in his hand. Thats captured on video," he said. His friend is also seen holding a gun, and neither weapon has been found, McCauley said. Then, the surveillance system stopped recording, and footage was missing from the six to eight hours after the slaying, he said. The afternoon of June 17, the prosecutor said, Hernandez returned the rental car, offering the attendant a piece of blue Bubblicious gum when he dropped it off. While cleaning the car, the attendant found a piece of blue Bubblicious gum and a shell casing, which he threw away. Police later searched the trash bin and found the gum and the casing. The prosecutor said it was tested and matched the casings found where Lloyd was killed. As McCauley outlined the killing, Lloyds family members cried and held each other, and two were so overcome that they had to leave the courtroom. The Patriots said in a written statement after Hernandezs arrest but before the murder charge was announced that cutting Hernandez was "the right thing to do." "Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation," it said. Hernandez, originally from Bristol, Conn., was drafted by the Patriots in 2010 out of the University of Florida, where he was an All-American. During the draft, one team said it wouldnt take him under any circumstances, and he was passed over by one club after another before New England picked him in the fourth round. Afterward, Hernandez said he had failed a drug test in college -- reportedly for marijuana -- and was up front with teams about it. A Florida man filed a lawsuit last week claiming Hernandez shot him in the face after they argued at a strip club in February. Hernandez became a father on Nov. 6 and said he intended to change his ways: "Now, another one is looking up to me. I cant just be young and reckless Aaron no more. Im going to try to do the right things." Flames Jerseys 2020 . -- Jimmy Walkers first PGA Tour trophy came with a special gift tucked inside. Wholesale Flames Jerseys . Last nights Rams-Seahawks game wasnt the best-looking Color Rush game of the season (that honor goes to Octobers?Broncos-Chargers matchup), but in many ways it was the most intriguing uniform pairing of the Thursday night schedule, with both teams reaching into their uniform pasts and perhaps hinting at their futures. Vapormax Flyknit 2 Femme Pas Cher .The more dynamic look, of course, belonged to the Seahawks, who wore a full-body treatment of their neon-toned action green color (and you can bet they would have added a matching green helmet if not for the NFLs one-shell rule). This felt like the culmination of the uni-verses long drive toward peak-neon that began in the early 1990s. Thats when the Orlando Thunder of the old World League of American Football -- later rechristened NFL Europe -- wore a neon green uniform that looked outrageous for its era but seems pretty conventional compared to what the Seahawks wore last night. The Thunder were endlessly ridiculed for wearing that uniform design, which showed up for years in Worst Uniforms Ever lists. But in the quarter-century since, neon and fluorescent uni colors have gone from being garish and disdained to, well, garish and popular. A key step in that evolution was taken by the Seahawks themselves, who wore a neon green alternate jersey for one game in 2009.More recently, neon tones have been adopted by a wide range of teams and individual athletes, so Seattles move to go full-neon seems like the logical conclusion of this trend.Assuming the Color Rush program is retained for next season, the Seahawks will presumably keep this uniform in their wardrobe. Would they ever consider re-designating the green jersey as their primary look? That seems highly unlikely -- their solid-navy scuba suit has become an institution. But with the popularity of neon tones still on the upswing, dont be surprised if the Seahawks find new ways to expand the role of green in their color scheme. Now lets take a look at the Rams, who went with white helmet horns for the first time since 1972 -- their third horn color of the season (and no, that doesnt violate the one-shell rule, because the horns are decals that can be swapped out, just like a side logo or striping tape). Those white horns, and the blue-and-white uniforms they were part of, are apparently a favorite among Rams fans. When the team announced its move from St. Louis to Los Angeles early this year, your friendly uniform columnist received an avalanche of emails and tweets that said, Heres hoping they change uniforms and go back to the blue and white!Thats somewhat surprising, on several levels. For starters, if you look at the Rams uniform history, youll see that they only wore the blue-white color scheme from 1964 through 1972 -- a short period, a long time ago. Moreover, the blue-white combo, while handsome, seems rather plain compared to the technicolor snazziness of the royal-and-yellow uniform that replaced it (although either design would be an improvement over the teams current primary look). In any case, fans of the blue-white format have had a lot to be excited about this season. The Rams have worn solid white for many of their home games (not the same as the vintage blue-white design, of course, but it still has some of that old flavor), and much of the teams stadium signage and online branding has been rendered in blue and white. Toss in last nights revival of the white helmet horns and you end up with the obvious question: Is the team planning a blue-white makeover? Its too soon to know for sure. The feeling here at Uni Watch HQ is that the Rams probably wont go for a full-scale redesign until they move into their new stadium in 2019. But a blue-white throwback in the interim? Its easy to imagine them going that route. Lets see if that happens.Would you like to nominate a uniform or uni element to be showcased in a future Friday Flashback installment? The Colts recovered to reach the AFC Championship Game two seasons ago but ended up 8-8 last year. You can control what you can control, Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano said. If a couple plays go a little bit different in each of those games, you are sitting at 2-0. But that is not the case. That has never been the case. It is what it is.Last seasons struggles were partially due to Luck missing nine games with various injuries. The 27-year-old is aching again and missed Wednesdays practice with soreness in his passing shoulder stemming from being sacked five times in last Sundays 34-20 loss to the Denver Broncos.Luck, who has thrown five touchdown passes this season, insisted hell be on the field when the Colts face the Chargers and said there is no cause for alarm.I dont think so, but I dont raise the alarms, Luck said. Thats you guys. I would not be concerned.Meanwhile, quarterback Philip Rivers of the Chargers (1-1) keeps losing key weapons from an offense averaging 32.5 points, second best in the NFL. Star receiver Keenan Allen was lost to a torn ACL in Week 1 and running back Danny Woodhead went down with the same type of season-ending knee injury last Sunday.Despite the attrition, Rivers has thrown five touchdown passes without an interception and has a stellar 120.3 quarterback rating. Cornerback Casey Hayward had two interceptions last week but the secondary has been a weak link.Indianapolis beleaguered defense hopes to have Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis (ankle) on the field for the first time this season. The Colts have been decimated with injuries in the secondary and the list of ailing players include cornerbacks Darius Butler (hamstring), Antonio Cromartie (ribs) and Patrick Robinson (concussion) plus safeties Clayton Geathers (foot) and T.J. Green (knee).Indianapolis also suffered a key offensive loss on Wednesday when it was announced receiver Donte Moncrief will miss four-to-six weeks with a fractured left shoulder blade. The Chargers have won four of the past five meetings, including a 19-9 victory in 2013 when they controlled the ball for 38:31 and held Luck and the Colts out of the end zone.San Diego defensive coordinator John Pagano is the younger brother of the Colts head coach. It was the chairmans idea. Air Max 270 React Reverse Logo Pas Cher .How could he get the NFL, one of the largest global brands in all of sports, to agree to hold regular-season games in a Premier League stadium? It had never been done.Maybe the NFL thought Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy was, as he said, a little bit mad in 2012 when he suggested the two agree to hold NFL games in his clubs new 61,000-seat stadium beginning when it opens in 2018. But the NFL listened.Levy proposed equipping the stadium with a retractable pitch -- a grass soccer field over a synthetic surface for NFL games -- which would make it possible to hold two games in the same stadium on the same day. Over time, Levy also agreed to configure the stadium so the sight lines would be as good for NFL games as they would be for soccer games and to build a dedicated NFL-sized locker room and NFL-sized medical and media facilities. We worked together, Levy said, because it needed to be viewed as a combined joint soccer and NFL stadium. In fact, the way we designed the whole experience is one side of the stadium is a dedicated soccer entrance and the other side is a dedicated NFL entrance. If it ever got to a stage where the NFL decided it wanted to have a permanent team in London, this stadium could literally be, whatever the team was, it would be their stadium as opposed to an NFL team feeling theyre renting Tottenhams stadium. That is a big reason why Mark Waller, the NFLs executive vice president of international, told earlier this year that he could see the league putting a team in London by 2020 if the ownership decided that was something we wanted to do.The NFL has been building a fan base in England since it started its International Series there in 2007. The league has held 14 regular-season games in London -- all at Wembley Stadium -- and will hold three more there this season, including one at Twickenham Stadium, home of Englands national rugby team.Starting in 2018, the NFL will hold at least two games at Tottenhams as-yet-named stadium for a 10-year period, although Levy said, Weve encouraged them to engage with us in a wider way.If the NFL decides it wants to base a team in London, Levy said the Spurs?would like to host it.We would welcome very much close cooperation with the NFL and a dedicated team, Levy said. Obviously a decision is entirely theirs whether they do bring a team to the U.K., and where it would be located is something that would be talked about. But yes, we would be very much welcome to that scenario. When Levy became chairman for the Spurs in 2001, he had three objectives: improve the quality of the team, build a world-class training facility and build a new stadium. When the stadium, which will be adjacent to Tottenhams current White Hart Lane home, is complete, Levy will have achieved all three. Last season, the Spurs finished third in the Premier League, their highest finish of Levys tenure. And a couple of years ago they moved to a new training facility, where they soon will break ground on an addition for player housing. But the stadium and the accompanying neighborhood revitalization project -- both of which are known as the Northumberland Development Project -- are Levys baby. The project includes the construction of new homes, a hotel, a medical facility and a grocery store, among other things.I have lived and breathed this project from day one, the 54-year-old Levy said. It is absolutely my ambition to make this work. When I first started talking about it internally at the club, again I think people around me thought I was mad as well. I guess its my tenacity to get it done because there were many times with the NFL where there wasnt going to be an arrangement. We just kept going back and saying, What about this? What about that? When we first went to them, we went to them with the idea of a joint stadium in some shape or form without going through all the details at that stage. As we sat down and we went through all the operations, we worked out, What does the NFL need? What does soccer need? Basically we had a checklist of all the various things we wanted to achieve, and then at the end of the day it was the best solution.Levy said he researched stadiums in the United States, and while he said he didnt want to give away any trade secrets, the major difference between venues there versus in England is the scale. Theyre enormous, Levy said. So while Tottenhams video boards will be the largest in a European stadium, they wont touch the size of some in the U.S.And although Levy looked at the retractable grass field at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Cardinals, there were logistical differences there, too. That field retracts outside the indoor stadium, where it can be exposed to sunlight. At the Tottenham site, where land is at a premium, the grass field will retract under the stands and be exposed to artificial light. But unlike Wembley Stadium, the Spurs new venue wont need to be reconfigured to accommodate an NFL field. So the turnaround time from hosting a soccer match on the grass field to an NFL game on the synthetic surface will be two hours. One of the idle thoughts we have at the moment is, would you really be able to play an NFL game and an EPL game on the same day as a doubleheader? Waller said. It wouldnt be absolutely out of the question. I dont think youd want to do it on a regular basis, but on a unique feature, that might be a really interesting idea.Said Levy: I dont think its something wed want to try our first game, but that is certainly realistic. How exciting the idea of having the two biggest leagues in the world from a television perspective -- fantastic! -- play on the same day. While the NFL likes to cite a string of statistics that shows how well it is trending in England -- such as that it has sold out every game at Wembley -- Levy is a bit more conservative in his assessment of whether England can support a full-time NFL franchise. It starts with kids.Kids in school in England dont think about NFL, Levy said. They think about soccer, and to a much, much less extent rugby and cricket. You wouldnt put the NFL in that list at the moment, and therefore one has to be cautious about the timing of the decision and how that is done.I think its possible and I think it can work, otherwise we wouldnt have invested what weve invested in our stadium, and we wouldnt have entered into the arrangement with the NFL. I just think that everyone needs to have their feet on the ground, and just because you sell out three games of 80,000 or 90,000 people [doesnt mean] that a franchise is an automatic success. One NFC front office executive, speaking on the condition of anonymity, says he worries about issues beyond the size of the fan base. He wonders if commissioner Roger Goodell and the league are being overly aggressive with their overseas ambitions during a time when player safety is being emphasized.I would say 2020 is probably the realistic goal in Rogers mind and the owners minds, he said. Theres been so much talk about international. My biggest concern is were trying so hard to go international in so many places too fast that too many bad things can happen. Theyre talking about playing in China. Are you kidding me? Its a bad idea. There are enormous questions about London that havent been answered, but its player safety, player safety, player safety. Regardless of the timeframe, Levy emphasized two things would help put a U.K. franchise in position to succeed. One is the continued engagement of fans, young and old. The other is ensuring that the stadium experience is a real NFL experience, because if its not, not only will the fans attending the game know it, so will the ones watching on television.Tottenham is committed to making the stadium experience special, and if and when the NFL is ready to move a team to London, it will be waiting.Clearly we wouldnt both be putting all this into this stadium if there wasnt the prospect of one day a team eventually coming to London, Levy said. But there are certainly no guarantees that A) a team comes to London, and B) they have to use our stadium.I think were all putting the effort in in the hopes that they will do it. Air Max 270 React Pas Cher Site . 10 Texas Rangers jersey for one last time. The 41-year-old slugger hit the first pitch he saw for a single in his debut for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, three days after joining the Texas Rangers on a minor league contract. Facing a top Kansas City pitching prospect in right-hander Yordano Ventura of Omaha, Ramirez hit a soft line drive to right field leading off the second but was stranded there. He grounded into a fielders choice to end the third -- again hitting the first pitch. With the cheers growing louder for each at-bat, Ramirez struck out swinging on a 94 mph fastball from Ventura to end the fifth. He walked against reliever Michael Mariot in the eighth and was taken out for a pinch-runner. "The future is greater than the past," Ramirez said after the game. A kinder, gentler Ramirez says he feels no pressure and has no timeline two years after his last appearance in the majors with Tampa Bay. The 12-time All-Star who once forced his way out of Boston and twice was suspended for testing positive for banned drugs said before the game he was "so happy to get a chance to play the game I love." "We all do a lot of things when we are young, but if you can make it through the fire, you are changed, made better and readdy for anything else," said Ramirez, who was sporting much shorter dreadlocks after getting them cut to conform with Texas minor league rules. Air Max 270 React Blanche Pas Cher. He shaved the sides of his head because he says it makes him feel cooler in the Texas heat. Ramirez retired rather than face a 100-game ban in his second suspension when he was with the Rays in April 2011. He served a 50-game ban for a positive drug test while with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2009. The lifetime .312 hitter was in Los Angeles because he forced his way out of Boston, where he won two World Series. He didnt want the Red Sox to pick up the option on his contract so he could sign a more lucrative deal elsewhere. While Ramirez is 14th on the career home run list with 555, he has just 28 since the start of 2009 because of injuries and the drug suspensions. He was 1 for 17 without a homer for the Rays when the drug suspension hit. A comeback attempt with Oakland last year failed. Ramirez recently finished a three-month stint in Taiwan. He hit .352 with eight homers and 43 RBIs for the Rhinos, but wanted to return to his family in New York and then put out the word that he preferred to play either in the U.S. or Japan. "I am just happy, my wife is happy," Ramirez said. "I am working very hard and well see where it goes. But it is a fun ride." ' ' '
AUSTIN, Texas -- College football is a winning business and when youre not winning, business is bad. China Jerseys . That backdrop makes the timing of the Red River Rivalry between No. 20 Oklahoma and Big 12 archrival Texas a bit tricky for the Longhorns.Texas coach Charlie Strong, whose team has gone from trending upward to sliding down in the past three weeks thanks to road losses to California and Oklahoma State, went from facing questions about his own job to demoting defensive coordinator Vance Bedford -- now in charge of defensive backs -- since leaving Stillwater last weekend.Things could get even worse with the Longhorns in the crosshairs of an improving Oklahoma team on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Sooners are hell-bent on revenge after losing to Texas last season and are back in the saddle after a win on the road against TCU last Saturday. It doesnt take much to rile up these two teams when they meet each year for their neutral-site showdown on the Texas State Fair Grounds. But this season, the stakes seem as high as ever for a pair of 2-2 teams who are lost in the wake of hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff due to their multiple losses. The Longhorns are 5-5 since their win in Dallas last season.Strong said he thought that game couldve been a turning point for the team. It wasnt, as Texas went 5-7 in 2015 and did not go to a bowl game.I go back to that game all the time because that could have been a turn right there, because it takes one game to really turn the program, Strong explained. We are at the point now where we know how to handle it.Strong hopes a victory this season could shake his team out of its doldrums.Last year we jumped out to a good lead and we played good early, just an emotional lead and then the game settled down, Strong said. But weve just got to go out and just play well and not give up the big play on defense and see if we can move the ball on offense and be solid in the kicking game. Two straight losses to good but not great teams and surrendering 99 total points therein prompted Strong to demote defensive coordinator Vance Bedford on Monday and take over the responsibility for calling defensive plays himself.Last Saturdays 49-31 loss to Oklahoma State marked the first time in school history that a Texas team allowed 45 or more points in three of the first four games of a season and something had to be done.I dont think its desperate times for desperate measures, Strong said. Ive (coordinated the defense) before and I can see where I can help us. Play calling is a rhythm. Youve got to get on rhythm and you try to keep people off balance. Sometimes when (the players) hear a different voice...youre trying to give them a shot of energy.Through four games, the Longhorns defense has allowed a total of 153 points and ranks 116th nationally in scoring defense. In losses to California and Oklahoma State the Longhorn defense has surrendered 1,062 yards, including 555 total yards to the Cowboys on Saturday. Texas (2-2, 0-1 in Big 12 play) ranks No. 87 in total defense, 105th in passing yards allowed and dead last with just one turnover gained. Its real hard to have fun when youre giving up 50 points (a game), Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson said.DOnta Foreman and Chris Warren III, Texas two hammerhead running backs, were injured in last weeks loss to Oklahoma State. Foreman (abdominal issue) will be back for OU but Warren (right knee) is out indefinitely.Oklahoma (2-2, 1-0 in Big 12 play) comes into Saturdays game off a 52-46 victory over No. 21 TCU in Fort Worth, the Sooners third game (and first win) against ranked teams this season.Stoops was asked Monday if the role changes at Texas will affect how the Sooners will prepare for Saturday.I dont know how much you can totally change, but its something weve got to be alert to that wed have to adjust to, Stoops said. With all we see through the year, our guys are used to seeing a lot.Oklahoma surged back from a 21-7 deficit via a 35-0 run in a stretch when Stoops said the Sooners played their best football of the season. All of the teams units played with urgency and fire and it was a positive start in the Big 12, Stoops said. Theres plenty we have to improve on and going down to play Texas is always a big game and a big challenge for us.Stoops announced Monday that starting linebacker Tay Evans has been forced to quit football because of continued symptoms from concussions. And quarterback Baker Mayfield missed practice Monday while he tries to recover from a leg injury he suffered in the first half against TCU. Mayfield returned to the game in the second half with a brace on his leg and threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another pair of scores in the victory.Texas and Oklahoma meet for the 111th time on the gridiron Saturday in the Red River Showdown. The Longhorns own a record of 47-38-4 against the Sooners since the game began at the Cotton Bowl in 1929.The two teams have split the past 10 meetings. China Jerseys 2020 . PARK CITY, Utah -- It took Erin Hamlin more than a decade to collect two World Cup luge gold medals. Custom Detroit Red Wings Jerseys .And then came Saturday -- when she won two in a couple of hours.Hamlin dominated the field to win a pair of womens events, Emily Sweeney took silver in both of those races and USA Luge had a day unlike any other in its World Cup history. In all, the Americans picked up five medals, including a bronze from Matt Mortensen and Jayson Terdiman in a sprint doubles race. Its very exciting, Hamlin said. It was a great race day. We had perfect conditions. Im very relieved and happy that I could capitalize on that. She now has four World Cup wins and 16 medals in singles or sprint events on the circuit -- not including her gold from the 2009 world championships, or her bronze from the 2014 Sochi Olympics.Hamlin started her day with a win in the womens singles event, the usual two-run format. Hamlin won gold in 1 minute, 29.257 seconds. Sweeney tied her career-best World Cup finish by taking second in 1:29.384, and Alex Gough of Canada was third in 1:29.584.Natalie Geisenberger of Germany, the reigning Olympic champion, was fourth -- one spot ahead of Summer Britcher of the U.S.That was followed by the sprint events, a one-heat dash where the clock doesnt start until sliders have built up some speed at the top of the track. Mortensen and Terdiman were third there, their time of 32.938 seconds beaten by only two German teams -- Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken were first in 32.838, and Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt were second in 32.893.We had a great run, Terdiman said. Cant argue with a bronze medal. And then Hamlin and Sweeney were back on the track, just a couple hours after finishing up their first competition of the day. They repeated the 1-2 finish, Hamlin winning in 32.881 seconds, ahead of Sweeney (33.034) and Germanys Tatjana Huefner (33.040).Saturdays medals for Hamlin and Sweeney were the first four won by U.S. women in singles events this season. Britcher captured a bronze in a team relay at Lake Placid last weekend.Everythings starting to pay off, Sweeney said. Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going.Hamlins other World Cup wins were a sprint race at Altenberg, Germany, in February 2015, and a full World Cup last season in Lake Placid. The two wins on Saturday vaulted her to No. 3 in the overall World Cup standings for the season.Just an awesome day, Hamlin said.Sweeney has been dealing with a wrist injury, and was thrilled with silvers.I am so pleasantly surprised, Sweeney said. But also, its just a relief. I really needed a win for myself. And I didnt win -- but I won in my own mind, so its great.Dominik Fischnaller of Italy won the mens sprint Saturday in 28.302 seconds, edging Russias Roman Repilov and Germanys Andi Langenhan. After this weekend, the luge circuit goes on holiday break before resuming Jan. 5 in Konigssee, Germany. Red Wings Jerseys China . -- Stanfords Kevin Danser knelt on one knee and hardly moved on the sideline as Michigan State celebrated its Rose Bowl victory and his Cardinal teammates made their way to the locker room. Detroit Red Wings Shirts . It was his first run over hurdles for two years and he has yet to be beaten over smaller obstacles in eight races. In between time he has enjoyed great success over fences, though he had been beaten by Sprinter Sacre in his two previous starts. It was a fantastic performance. Horses for courses - hes been to Auteuil three times and three times hes won, part-owner Colm OConnell told At The Races. The ground seems to be the key to Un De Sceaux. Soft ground he seems to go a lot easier on it.I always expected him to go on the ground. The trip was a bit of a question, so now that opens us more options for next year. The French Champion Hurdle is over an extra four furlongs. Well see. Weve a bit of time now.Well see how he comes out of the race. Well give him a break for a few days and then well talk to Willie, but its an option.Hes definitely got options, options I didnt think we had a week ago. We know he can see out a trip, so its going to make a difficult choice where we go from September. He absolutely loved it on Saturday. In 2010, after years of rewarding the pitcher with the most wins, Cy Young voters gave the award to Felix Hernandez. Josh James Jersey . The Mariners ace had gone 13-12, and the vote was celebrated by many as a victory not just for the King but for the voting process in general. The tyranny of wins was dead. The Baseball Writers Association of America, whose members vote on the award, had leapt into the modern ways of evaluating players. Our November tradition of tearing apart the down-ballot selections of baseball writers was, mercifully, over. And then the next six American League Cy Youngs went to the league leader in pitcher wins, including Rick Porcello this week. Just goes to show you ... something. On Thursday, Mike Trout won his second AL MVP award. This is the outcome I had hoped for: The best player won the award that most closely corresponds to the question, Who was the best player? Its the outcome that the BBWAA had avoided in three of the previous four seasons, when Trout was (by Wins Above Replacement, and in all three of the most prominent public models of it) the best player in baseball but the runner-up in MVP voting. The lone year he won -- 2014 -- has been the exception that proves the rule, as Trout led the league in RBIs and played on a division champion. He was the best player in baseball, too, but it didnt feel like he won that one because he was Mike Trout, you fools. In the same way that Felix Hernandezs Cy Young was supposed to mean something, Mike Trout finally winning an MVP award without any of the usual crutches of default MVP voting will seem to mean something. Resist that conclusion. This is not about the voters, and it is not about us. Its about Mike Trout, the greatest player youve ever seen, and his very good year, and a decision made by 30 men and women that is worth celebrating because it might not happen again.Voters have been struggling with what an MVP is since just about the very beginning. The MVP award was launched in a series of fits and starts, under various aegises and rules, just over a century ago. By the mid-1920s, sports-section readers could already count on columnists making a case for some player and struggling with the ambiguity in the name of the award itself. In 1927, Bob Ray of the Los Angeles Times took a shot at defining it through the lens of one candidate:Gehrig is a good guess, all right, but dont entirely overlook Signor Antonio Lazzeri, who also cavorts on the Yankee infield. Lazzeris all-around play has been one of the features of the season and his ability to fill in at any of the infield berths is one reason why the Yankees are so far out in front. The attributes that Ray laid out included: utility (Lazzeri played a bunch of positions after teammates went down); clutchness (Lazzeri has rapped most of his four baggers when they meant the ball game, one of them coming with the bases full); marketable Italianness (Lazzeri packs in the Italian fans wherever the Yankees play); and outstanding defense (fielding has been so phenomenal that eastern critics are pronouncing him Another Lajoie). In 1932, Grantland Rice argued that the underheralded second baseman Charlie Gehringer deserved consideration:One of the most self-effacing stars in baseball, Charlie Gehringer, is the punch in the Tigers attack and hes being nominated as the most valuable player in the junior league. What has Gehringer got that permits him to be mentioned in the same breath with Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth of the Yanks, and Joe Cronin of the Senators, who have been rated the key men of the American League? What, indeed. Rice mentions the knack for timely hitting, caring less about winning the batting championship than hoisting the Detroit team into a preferred position, superbly graceful (play) around the keystone sack, playing a demanding infield position and being smart in scouting opponents. In 1928, the Times made the case for Burleigh Grimes, who was an underdog to Jim Bottomley of the front-running Cardinals:There is no question that Burleighs presence on their team has inspired the Pirates. In the spring, when all the pitchers with the exception of Grimes were going bad, the team appeared listless and downhearted. There were games when they were worse than the hopeless Phillies. Now they look like one of the best teams in the league. They never would have threatened to climb out of the second division if Battling Burleigh hadnt been plugging for them.... What a man! From the beginning, there was an admirable effort put into understanding the entirety of the ballplayers contribution, and valuing those things that the ballplayers and ballclubs themselves valued. There was also, arguably, a tendency for writers to talk themselves into some terrible positions, such as Tony Lazzeri for MVP; hitting .373/.474/.765, as Gehrig did in 1927, or .364/.469/.749, as Jimmie Foxx did in 1932, might also help us define value. (Each won the MVP award.) But, presumably, Ray and Rice didnt discount those gaudy slash lines. They just aimed to make the case that a successful ballplayer often does things that didnt, as they say, show up in the box score. What the award was never meant to be was a leaderboard sort. Indeed, it was the very opposite of a leaderboard sort: The first MVP award was designed to replace the batting crown, which had been turned into a farce on the final day of the 1910 season when Nap Lajoie was allowed to bunt his way past Ty Cobb thanks to, shall we say, an anti-Cobb bias among players. As The Bill James Historical Abstract puts it, After this it was realized that it was not advisable to make such an award contingent directly on player statistics, a principle still recognized today. Instead, the Chalmers company decided to base its award -- the automobile-- upon a poll of sportswriters. The ambiguity about who should win the award, a concept so abstract that it would itself inspire a century of debate, is not, then, an accident. Its part of what makes the award fun, part of what makes it memorable, part of why players care about winning it more than they care about leading the league in WAR or any other stat. We have a basic faith in the idea of a group of people coming together with their individual perspectives on the world and voting their consciences. We believe that this is how some large truth emerges that an algorithm or a scientist cant engineer. By one way of considering the voting, there is no such thing as a bad vote that is submitted in good faith. The cost of this faith, of course, is that well hate the results much of the time -- especially now that we have an actual leaderboard that attempts to measure value itself. And concluding that Mike Trout is the most valuable baseball player in the world should be one of the easiest decisions an MVP voter gets to make in his or her life.It is certainly about time that Trout won a second award. There is no credible argument that would suggest Trout isnt the best player in his league, or that he wasnt this year.Over his five-year career, he has led the AL in Wins Above Replacement five times. You go to a different site than I do for your Wins Above Replacement? No problem: He leads the AL in all five years regardless of whether youre looking at Baseball-Reference, FanGraphs or Baseball Prospectus. His cumulative WAR, on Baseball-Reference, is nearly two full Mike Trout seasons better than the next best major leaguer in that time period, Robinson Cano. His cumulative WAR in those five years is greater than Manny Machado and Anthony Rizzo combined. Its as great as Jose Altuve, Yoenis Cespedes and Eric Hosmer combined. Its as great as Justin Upton, Chris Davis, Kendrys Morales and Mark Trumbo combined. Only two players in post-integration history -- Willie Mays and Barry Bonds -- have ever produced a better five-year run than Trout has produced in his first five-year run. He is, through age 24, the greatest player in baseball history. Were not talking about a great player, a generational player, another in a line of establishment superstars. Were talking about something that history has never seen, and its happening right now, in front of us, every day -- and the continued runner-up finishes suggested we were missing it.His 2016 season was as good as any of the previous four. He matched a career high for OPS, set new ones for walks and on-base percentage, remembered after two quiet baserunning seasons that hes a top-tier base stealer, and by some advanced metrics had the best defensive season he has had since he was a rookie. His 10.6 WAR on Baseball-Reference is nearly equal to his best ever, and is a mark that only seven other human beings have accomplished since integration. What will Mike Trout accomplish in his career? Very little is off the table. Through age 24, he has the seventh-most home runs ever, with exactly twice as many as Barry Bonds had and 28 more than Hank Aaron did at that age. Hes 13th in hits, with a 400-hit head start on Pete Rose. Hes seventh in runs, 15th in runs batted in, sixth in total bases, fifth in extra-base hits, fourth in times on base. He is building a career that might demolish records and define our memories of an entire generation of baseball. You would like to think well have no fuzz on those memories, but the truth is that these awards go a long way to how we define and remember a career. Big round numbers do, too, but those numbers are affected by so many things that are hard to account for in our heads a half-century later: the run-scoring environment of the era, the ballpark he played in, for instance, but more than that. In 50 years, who even knows which stats well look at, or what well value in a player. Theres a pretty good chance well be measuring modern players in the future using data that dont even exist yet for Trout, and that we cant go back to collect retroactively. What we will have, what will be permanent, are these annual assessments by the BBWAA. And in a just world, Mike Trout, just a couple months past his 25th birthday, would already have five MVP awards. You would care to see that. Two, at least, is better than one. Its a victory worth celebrating. But Im skeptical its a victory any broader than that. Late last month, the players voted on Sporting News MLB Player of the Year. Their winner was Jose Altuve. Mookie Betts finished second, followed by David Ortiz, Kris Bryant, Daniel Murphy and finally Mike Trout. Five players on contending teams, who all helped their team win or stay close to a division crown, ahead of Trout, whose team played for nothing. That has been one of Trouts challenges in winning the MVP award, before this year: He hasnt been playing on postseason teams, and some years, for some players, some voters decide thats important. But thats the MVP award. Notice whats missing in the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year Award name? The word value. The voters for this award decided five other major leaguers played better than Mike Trout because they just didnt care enough to get it right. This years MVP voters did care enough to get it right, or, at least, the definition they chose for most valuable player corresponded to my definition. Those voters, though, total 30. There are more than 700 active BBWAA members. In a sample of less than 5 percent of members, by an extremely thin margin, voters chose Mike Trout. Its hardly a radical realignment of values. Scramble the members up, have them vote again, and its quite possible Trout would have finished second or third, again. This is OK! Trouts legacy is bolstered by the hardware, but it is not so fragile as to depend on these votes. Honus Wagners career almost entirely predated the MVP award, and he never won one. Babe Ruth played in an era when players were allowed to win it only once, and so he won it only once. Willie Mays led National League hitters in WAR 10 times but won only two awards. Are any of these careers underrecognized by history? Do you know anybody who doesnt know what Babe Ruth represented? Can you find anybody who lived through Willie Mays career who would tell you that he was underappreciated even then?Trout might deserve 15 of these in his career. He might win two, and he might win a dozen. When he wins one, we toast to the greatest player alive. When he loses one, we still toast to the greatest player alive. Cionel Perez Jersey . Tests earlier this week revealed a Grade 2 left hamstring strain for Sabathia, who was hurt in last Fridays start against San Francisco. Its an injury that will require about eight weeks to heal. He finished a disappointing campaign just 14-13 with a career-worst 4. . Aaron Harrison scored a 22 points for Kentucky (6-1), which has won four in a row following a Nov. 12 loss to current No. 1 Michigan State. Julius Randle overcame a scoreless first half and added his sixth double-double in as many games with 14 points and 10 rebounds. CHICAGO -- It was a step back in time for Chicago Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist. Before a recent game, he hopped on his bike in his uniform, with his glove in hand and wearing black P.F. Flyers, and rode to Wrigley Field.I just wanted to get that feeling, he said. Its that feeling of youre riding to the sandlot like a kid. This place makes you feel like a kid.Zobrists ride a few weeks ago became an internet sensation after his singer-songwriter wife, Julianna, posted video and a picture of him on a bike ready to leave on her Instagram account . It also fit the life-is-fun theme preached by manager Joe Maddon that has included onesie-wearing plane rides and zoo animal visits for a team that has rolled into the postseason.Living near the workplace is one of the unique attractions of playing in a vibrant neighborhood like Wrigleyville. For the players and staff who take advantage, it means almost nonexistent commutes, more time with family and a chance to mingle with the surroundings in a way that might not be possible in other cities. For residents, well, you might have a Cub living next door.In a sense, it puts a different spin on the term friendly confines. Zobrist, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks and Jake Arrieta all live in the neighborhood. So does president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. And general manager Jed Hoyer is just a few minutes drive away, in Lincoln Park.I think guys love that, Hoyer said. I think the neighborhood feel is great. The families like it. They can walk with their kids to the ballpark. The lifestyle stuff definitely sells a little bit.For Zobrist, it was a big selling point when he signed with the Cubs in the offseason. The native of central Illinois and his family live about a mile from Wrigley in a home with a miniature basketball court and play area outside for their three young children.Zobrist often takes his bike to the ballpark, though that ride in uniform was a first. But the biggest benefit is the extra time at home. When he played in other cities he had to leave around 2 p.m. for a night game. Now? Sometimes as late as 4.Its just a special thing, Zobrist said. Theyre never going to make another venue like this in professional sports where its basically in a neighborhood. And because of that, it has such a unique feel. I mean, its honestly baseball heaven on earth. For Lester, calling the neighborhood home was not the plan.He lived near Fenway Park for a few years when he played for the Red Sox before buying a house about a half hour away in Newton. When he signed with the Cubs before the 2015 season, he was seeking some separation from home and work so he looked in the ssuburbs. Jimmy Wynn Jersey Large. It was Daniel Sedins fifth goal. The Sedins were not matched against Zetterbergs line for the goal. Were playing our system and were creating chances. Tasmania 7 for 388 (Doolan 202*, Behrendorff 3-73) lead Western Australia 262 by 126 runsScorecard Amid all the talk about batsmen competing for a Test call-up, Alex Doolans name was never mentioned. Dizzy Dean . And there was good reason: he entered this Sheffield Shield round with 1315 runs at 24.81 from his past three years of first-class cricket. But on the second day at the WACA, Doolan bounced spectacularly back to form with an unbeaten 202 that put Tasmania in a strong position at stumps.Of course, in order to add to the four Test caps Doolan won in 2014, he would likely need a lengthy run of good form to make up for his long lean patch. But he did have a productive Matador Cup, and his runs on the second day in Perth stood out on a Tasmania scorecard on which no other player passed fifty. The in-form George Bailey was lbw for 24 and was one of four Tasmanians out in the 20s.The Tigers had resumed on 2 for 60, with Doolan and nightwatchman Jackson Bird at the crease, and they put on 56 for the third wicket before Bird was out for 22. Bailey, Beau Webster (27), James Faulkner (13) and Jake Doran (41) all made starts, but Doolan was the only one able to go on with it, and finished the day with 33 fours, two sixes, and a new highest first-class score. His 202 had come from 311 balls.Jason Behrendorff picked up 3 for 73 and Simon Mackin collected two wickets for the Warriors. Washington (4-3-1) actually leads Detroit (5-4) by percentage points for the final spot.A corrected version of the story is below:Another tight victory pulls Lions closer to 1st placeBy NOAH TRISTERAP Sports WriterALLEN PARK, Mich. -- In every game theyve played this season, the Detroit Lions have been trailing or tied at some point in the final two minutes of regulation.Perhaps thats why they approached last weekends predicament at Minnesota with so much poise.Down three with 17 seconds remaining and no timeouts, Matthew Stafford completed a 27-yard pass to Andre Roberts. Then the Lions calmly rushed to the line, and Stafford was able to spike the ball, setting up Matt Praters 58-yard field goal that tied it. Detroit beat the Vikings 22-16 in overtime .I think you have to attribute it to the guys that we have on the field, coach Jim Caldwell said. They function pretty well in tight situations. Its that old saying about, you dont rise to the occasion but you sink to the level of your preparation, and our guys have prepared I think pretty well. The Lions (5-4) have had plenty of drama already this season, with every game decided by seven points or fewer. They needed field goals in the final two minutes to beat Indianapolis, Philadelphia and Los Angeles -- and Praters kick against Minnesota saved Sundays game. Detroit also beat Washington last month on a touchdown with 16 seconds remaining.Add it all up, and the Lions are a half-game out of first place in the NFC North as they head into their bye week. Its a far cry from where Detroit was during its open date last season, which came after the Lions got off to a 1-7 start.Detroit shook up its front office during its bye week llast season, firing general manager Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand. Steve Carlton. The Lions won six of their final eight games after that. It wasnt enough to salvage the season, but the playoffs are in reach in 2016.After falling behind 16-13 on Sunday when Minnesota scored a touchdown with 23 seconds left, the Lions took over at their own 25. Golden Tate caught an 8-yard pass and went out of bounds, then Stafford found Roberts in the middle of the field.Detroit hustled to the line, being careful to line up properly and avoid a penalty. Stafford spiked the ball with 2 seconds left, and Praters kick was down the middle. That is perfect execution from everybody, said Tate, who ended up scoring the winning touchdown in overtime. That situation with 23 seconds and no timeouts, I wont say were done, and mentally you know it is not over until it says zero on the clock.Caldwell said his players practice situations like that and have developed confidence. We go through every conceivable situation in the league, he said. If we see some that are a little precarious and a little tough ... well say, `Hey, Im going to use that one for our mock this particular week. We take those real-life examples and utilize those to try to test our team. More often than not, we take a few timeouts off of it so we make them operate with no timeouts rather than giving them a crutch. After their weekend off, the Lions have a winnable home game against a last-place Jacksonville team, and their final three home games after that are against NFC North opponents.Detroit has been in some difficult spots this season, but the Lions have turned enough of those late-game deficits into wins that theyll have a lot to play for down the stretch. HOUSTON -- Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is still recovering from a right calf strain, but said Saturday that he feels good and shouldnt be out of camp much longer. Air Max 270 Flyknit White . Foster rushed for 1,424 yards and 15 touchdowns last year for his third straight 1,200-yard season. The Texans placing him on the physically unable to perform list the night before the start of training camp was somewhat of a surprise. "I thought hed be ready to go, but (the team trainer) just thinks he needs a few days with them to work into the routine," coach Gary Kubiak said. "But hes had a good summer; hes been here every day. I expect him back pretty quickly." But they certainly arent going to rush their star running back onto the field only to have him suffer a setback. "I have played through a lot of things, but this is just something you cant and theres no reason to right now," he said. "Im just going to take my time and when I feel 100 per cent confident, Ill be ready." Foster spent the off-season using a different training regimen in an attempt to try and "reinvent" himself. He said the injury was what prompted the change, but that it ended up being beneficial because he thinks doing the same workouts too much could cause a plateau in performance. "I just want to harness my craft and hone it and be the best me I can be," Foster said. "Ultimately, if Im the best me for my team then that helps us get wins. I think thats what every athletes goal should be: just be the best for them and to be part of a unit." Foster and the Texans were unhappy that they lost steam down the stretch in 2012, losing three of their last four regular-season games, which kept them from gaining homefield advantage and a playoff bye. But more upsetting than that span to Foster was their loss to New England in the playoffs. "Anytime you dont win the last game of the season, its a disappointment," he said. "I think going into the off-season, it helps, but its a part of the game. Losing is a part of the NFL. You can use it as your anchor or use it as your sail, so thats basically what we have done this off-season. We put it behind us and its time to move forward and try and develop a new identity for this organization and this city." Along with his training, Foster found time for a new hobby this off-season when he landed a part in a movie. It wasnt his first foray into acting as Foster had played himself in an episode of the television show "Hawaii Five-0" early this year. This role was different, though, as he competed against other candidates to gain the role without telling anyone who he was. "Thats probably what was the most gratifying thing for me," Foster said. "They didnt say: Hey, you want to be in a movie because youre an actual running back. They had me audition, so I had to audition. My audition tape was up against 100 other audition tapes and they felt like I was the best guy for the part." However the role didnt require a major stretch for Foster as he portrayed a football player in the upcoming movie called "Draft Day" starring Kevin Costner. In an interesting moment in the film, Foster, who went undrafted out of Tennessee, has a scene where he is drafted and takes the stage with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. "It was fake, man," Foster said of that moment. "You know what I mean? It wasnt genuine. It was acting. It wasnt like any vindication or anything like that. It was fun, I guess. I already know him. It was a joke, though. I finally got drafted five years into the league." Though he has never taken acting lessons, Foster said he was involved in theatre as a child and once starred in a middle school production of Shakespeares "Macbeth." Air Max 270 React Safari . Hazard cut in from the left and scored with a swerving right-footed shot for ninth goal of the season, which proved to be enough for the victory despite Chelseas forwards again lacking a cutting edge up front. Air Max 270 Pink White . "I just wanted a shot," he said. The North Battleford, Sask., native made the most of his tryout with the Minnesota Twins that day two years ago, earning a minor league contract. On Tuesday night, Albers got an even bigger shot at realizing his dreams when he made his major league debut against the Kansas City Royals. Just like he did back then, Albers made the most of it. He allowed four hits while pitching into the ninth inning, leading the Twins to a 7-0 victory at Kauffman Stadium. "Its hard to put into words, but it was special to go out and have that kind of performance in your debut," he said. "Unfortunately, its probably not going to get much better from there." The first big leaguer from Saskatchewan in more than 20 years, Albers only allowed a collection of singles to one of the hottest teams in baseball, and at one point retired 15 straight. He ended up two outs shy of his third straight complete game dating back to his days with Triple-A Rochester, and the first shutout in a big league debut since Detroits Andy Van Hekken did it in 2002. Casey Fien wound up finishing it up when Albers began to labour in the ninth inning. "I didnt want to go out there and take him out," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, "but he was completely out of gas there at the end. Wow that was fun to watch." The Twins took most of the pressure off Albers with a big night at the plate. Brian Dozier homered and drove in three runs, and Justin Morneau of New Westminster, B.C., and Chris Colabello also went deep. All that damage came against Shields (6-8), who even balked in a run during his worst start in nearly two years. The former All-Star gave up three runs in the first inning and never settled down the rest of the evening, labouring through six innings on an uncomfortably humid night. "Sometimes this can happen," Shields said, "but Ive got to do a better job." The Twins hammered Shields right from the start. Doziers homer was the first leadoff shot for Minnesota since Denard Span went deep against the Phillies on June 12, 2012. Jamey Carroll promptly worked a walk and Morneau, who came into the game hitting .371 against Shields, added a two-run shot later in the first to stake the Twins to a 3-0 lead. Shields continued to struggle with his command in the second inning, walkiing Chris Herrmann to lead it off and then plunking Clete Thomas. Air Max 270 React Amethyst Tint. Doug Bernier laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move both runners up, and Herrmann scored on Doziers sacrifice fly. Colabello hit his third homer of the year in the fourth, and then plunged Shields into more trouble with a leadoff single in the sixth. Herrmann added a single to put runners on the corners, and a balk by Shields on a pickoff move to third base brought in another run. Dozier drove in his third run of the game with a single to make it 7-0. It was the first time Shields allowed at least seven runs since Aug. 21, 2011, when he was still with Tampa Bay. The three homers he allowed were the most since June 2 of the same year. "He just had trouble getting the ball down," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "Command was the issue most of the night for him. After the second inning it got a little better." Albers couldnt have gotten a whole lot better. The first big leaguer from Saskatchewan since 1991, when Terry Puhl retired, Albers showed promise when he was drafted by the Padres in 2008. But he needed Tommy John surgery the next year and was released before showing what he could do with a rebuilt elbow, finally ending up with the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League when he was healthy enough to pitch again. Albers failed to impress in a pair of big league tryouts in Arizona in 2011, but he was willing to drive at his own expense to Florida for another try with the Twins. His only other option was to head home to North Battleford and get on with life, and Albers showed just enough to earn himself a job. "For a guy whos not a prototypical prospect, for them to stick with me the way they have, its pretty special," said Albers, who was 11-5 with a 2.86 ERA at Rochester before getting called upon to replace fellow Canadian Scott Diamond in the Twins rotation. "You dream about this," he said, "but you never know if itll actually happen." Notes: The Royals will recall LHP Danny Duffy from Triple-A Omaha to start Wednesday night against the Twins Samuel Deduno. It will be Duffys first big league start since May 2012 after having Tommy John surgery. ... Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe was held out of the lineup as a precaution after tumbling head-first into the dugout to catch a foul ball Monday. ... Twins SS Pedro Florimon (sore left wrist) took BP and could start Wednesday. ... In what the team had called a retirement, Ryan said Thursday that he is resigning as chief executive of the Rangers in a move effective at the end of this month. CHICAGO -- Big Ten quarterbacks took a big beating last week.No. 4 Michigan, trying to win its first Big Ten championship since 2004, might have to get by with a backup after Wilton Speight injured his left, non-throwing shoulder in last weeks surprising loss to Iowa .Nebraskas Tommy Armstrong Jr. has a left hamstring problem. And Marylands Perry Hills (left shoulder) is banged up, too.The injury to Speight comes at an inopportune time for the Wolverines (9-1, 6-1), considering whats at stake and how well he has played.Michigan can capture the league championship and probably a spot in college footballs four-team playoff by beating Indiana on Saturday, No. 2 Ohio State on the road and winning the conference title game. The Wolverines chances would be better with Speight, but several outlets reported that he broke his collarbone in last weeks 14-13 loss at Iowa. Coach Jim Harbaugh would not confirm that on Tuesday, saying he remains questionable for the game against the Hoosiers.Well evaluate after that, Harbaugh said.Speight, who has completed more than 62 percent of his passes for 2,156 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions, was injured getting tackled on a fourth-quarter scramble against Iowa. Assuming he is sidelined, Michigan would figure to go with John OKorn or Shane Morris, who have played sparingly this season.Armstrong went from getting knocked unconscious in a blowout loss to Ohio State to delivering an inspired, painful performance for Nebraska (8-2, 5-2) in last weeks 24-17 win over Minnesota .He hurt his left ankle on a sneak in the third quarter. Armstrong came back to lead the winning 91-yard drive, but was carried to the sideline by two offensive linemen after tweaking his left hamstring tumbling into the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown. With the hamstring, we wont know until he can try it, coach Mike Riley said. And hes not in a position to try it yet.Ryker Fyfe is taking first-team snaps this week with Zack Darlington backing him up as the Cornhuskers prepare to host Maryland. Armstrong is day to day.The same goes for the Terrapins quarterback. Hills is day-to-day after he injured his left shoulder in the first quarter against Ohio State last week , and the drop-off between him and his backups is a big one. Hills, who has also dealt with a right shoulder injury, has three interceptions over 147 attempts. Yairo Munoz. Reserves Caleb Rowe and true freshman Tyrrell Pigrome have been picked off five times over a collective 56 throws.Weve been in this mode for several weeks now (with Hills), coach D.J. Durkin said. Hes played well for us at times even with the injury, and obviously hes gotten dinged up at times in games, too.REMEMBERING FOLTZNebraska will honor its seniors on Saturday, and late punter Sam Foltz figures to be on the Cornhuskers minds. The passing of Sam Foltz has become kind of part of our daily thought process, Riley said. Theres not a day, I dont think, that goes by that we dont think about Sam and appreciate him.An All-Big Ten punter, Foltz died in a car crash in Wisconsin on July 23 along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler.TOUGH TWOSOMEThe seven-game losing streak that derailed the season for Michigan State (3-7, 1-6) ended with a shutout over Rutgers. The schedule is about to get tougher with two games left -- and both against top 10 teams. The Spartans host No. 2 Ohio State, which will be out to avenge a loss last year that kept the Buckeyes out of the national championship hunt, on Saturday. After that, Michigan State visits No. 9 Penn State.I understand where (Ohio State is) at in the big scheme of things, coach Mark Dantonio said. I understand where Penn States at. The road may go through East Lansing a little bit, I guess. But I just look at it as an opportunity to play and be challenged by great football teams.CARRS CATCHESFrom walk-on to one of the nations best, Northwestern receiver Austin Carr is having quite a senior season. He is tied for sixth in the country in touchdown catches, and ranks ninth in both yards receiving (1,102) and receptions per game (7.5) and 10th in yards per game (110.2).We didnt recruit him, coach Pat Fitzgerald said, laughing. He got here on his own and he called us. Hes one of those cool, cool, just unbelievable, success stories in college football this year -- a young man that was not recruited at all, applies, gets into school and cold calls us and says, `Hey, Id like to try to maybe walk onto the team. How do I do that? And the rest is kind of history.---For more AP college football coverage: ' ' '
INDIANAPOLIS -- Adam Vinatieri is picking at his lunch-to-go in a carton with a plastic fork. Nick Mullens Super Bowl Jersey . He has a hell of a story to tell, if only he can fit it all in between the salad and the next team meeting bearing down on him. As he rubs the high-salt, low-pepper stubble stretched across his still youthful face, the NFLs oldest player wants you to know he started becoming a man as a very young boy.I was at the crossroads of my life, he says, when I was 7 years old.Adam Vinatieri would grow up to become pro footballs version of Mariano Rivera -- the greatest closer of all time. He would start his NFL career when Tom Brady was a redshirt freshman at Michigan and Peyton Manning was a junior at Tennessee. He would spend much of his NFL life playing with both and working for the best of the coaching best in Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Tony Dungy and Pete Carroll. But as he closes hard on his 44th birthday later this month, Vinatieri says the coach who might have been his biggest difference-maker is a teacher, Marcy Farrand, who spent 30 years at Wilson Elementary in Rapid City, South Dakota, in the shadow of the Black Hills. Young Adam had a learning disability -- he had trouble reading and spelling, and all these years later he can still hear an adult voice calling out, Hey, everybody, its time for reading. Oh, Adam, youre going to go to this other classroom.Vinatieri winces over the memory. I hated that, he said. It drove me crazy. He caught a break when he landed in Farrands special-ed classes in fourth, fifth and sixth grades. God bless her, I love her to death, Vinatieri said. She made me understand, This is going to be a challenge for you. At that point it was like I can accept this, and Im never going to amount to anything, and Im just going to get a B.S. job, and youre going to be unhappy. Or, hey, you know what, youre going to work twice as hard, and youre going to overcome this. Now retired, Farrand remembers Adam as an eager and intelligent boy who excelled in math. She found him to be typical of smart kids with learning disabilities; theyre often frustrated by the failure to grasp something they know they should be able to grasp. Mostly what I did with all kids, Farrand says, is we found what they were good at and we talked about it, and then talked about how to use that to help them with things they struggled with.Farrand recalls Adams standing among younger special-ed students as a kind and engaging leader they tried to emulate. Adam would bring in cards to Farrand thanking her for her patience and time. He would later end up in science classes taught by Farrands husband, Mark, at Rapid Citys Central High School, where Adam was an honor student and star athlete who earned admission to West Point.I had great grades, Vinatieri says. Why? Because I studied twice as long and twice as hard as everybody else. ... I had to learn [in elementary school] that you just out-effort everybody else and youre going to be successful. And I think, as silly as that sounds at that early of an age, that helped develop me into who I was.Who is Adam Matthew Vinatieri, kicker, husband and father of three? Farrand might be the coach with an answer that Belichick, Parcells, Dungy, Carroll and Chuck Pagano wont find in their playbooks. She says children with learning disabilities often grow into achievers and conquerors. When people who have had everything come easy to them hit a roadblock, Farrand says, sometimes they dont know how to deal with it. But when young kids struggle and overcome it, that builds natural confidence. Kids see that when they stuck with something they could figure it out and do it. Adam learned that early on. I think that served him well in everything he tackled. And he had to tackle a lot more than Herschel Walker on his long and improbable journey toward Canton.I kind of like who I amAdam Vinatieri arrived at the United States Military Academy in the summer of 1991 as a model plebe. Hed graduated near the top of his Central class, and, among other things, hed been a standout kicker, wrestler, pole vaulter and option quarterback. Kim Nelson, Centrals football coach, remembers the 6-foot Vinatieri as a prospect who wasnt a big enough or strong enough passer to attract major college interest. But Adam was a very good runner, Nelson says. We had a game in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where he ran the option as good as you could ever run it. I used to pull out that old VHS tape many times to show younger quarterbacks how to run it. Adam had confidence. He wanted the ball, and he wanted to be the guy in charge.Vinatieri applied to all the military academies, in part because he was inspired by the movie Top Gun. West Point seemed to be a proper familial fit -- Adams great-great grandfather, Felix Vinatieri, was the bandmaster for a West Point graduate named George Custer who, thankfully, did not charge his musicians to engage in battle at Little Bighorn.Adam didnt last three weeks in Delta Company. His superiors would concede they were assigning 24 hours of work to be completed in 18 hours, and Vinatieri was too strong-minded to prioritize the tasks and sacrifice the less urgent ones to keep up. He could still get a perfect score on a test, but he needed more time to study for it than your average plebe.I started to fall behind in all my stuff, he recalls. So instead of putting me in a study hall ... I would have to walk the yard. You would go out there while everybody else is polishing their boots and learning their stuff, and Im out there marching for an hour as punishment because Im not caught up.Vinatieri was already lost in a downward spiral when he found himself in a large auditorium listening to Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, who asked each cadet to look to his or her right, and then to his or her left, before assuring his audience that two out of every three members wouldnt make it to graduation. But the more profound speech, to Vinatieri, came from an officer around the same time. The man sat down the plebes in a courtyard area and reminded them that they were all at West Point for a reason, that the academy only accepts winners. You guys are all going to be successful in life, the man said, no matter if its here or anywhere else.Thats when it hit Vinatieri. He understood that military academies broke down people before shaping them into warriors. But I kind of like who I am, Vinatieri told himself. Im not sure I want to give up my individuality at this point. Ive worked my butt off to become who I am, and now youre trying to tear it down.He returned to Rapid City and found an older brother who was angrier than any commanding officer might be 1,700 miles to the east. Adam idolized Chad, a superior athlete, and Chad couldnt believe his kid brother was already back home. The Vinatieris dont quit anything, never mind the United States Military Academy. You had an opportunity that none of the rest of us ever had, Chad told him. Im not smart enough. Im not good enough to be there, and you were. And you just pissed it away.Adam absorbed the withering critique from his big brother and stood his ground. Ive proven everybody else wrong all these years, he told himself. Ill prove [everybody] wrong again. The kicker has what it takesEveryone knows the unlikely story of how Brady ended up playing for Belichick -- he had an uneven career at Michigan, nearly transferred, struggled for years to fully win the faith of his head coach (Lloyd Carr) and ultimately was selected by the Patriots 199th overall in the 2000 draft. So here goes the unlikely story of how Vinatieri ended up playing for Parcells. The kicker returned from West Point and called up South Dakota State, a Division II program that had offered him an 80 percent scholarship out of high school. Mike Daly, the coach, could offer Vinatieri only 50 percent on the rebound, and the kid had little choice but to take it.Vinatieri kicked and punted better than anyone in his conference and then grew unhappy when Daly bumped his scholarship to only 55 percent. He nearly transferred to Wyoming for the experience of playing Division I ball and the chance to earn a full ride. And I was really disappointed to hear that, Daly recalls. They had a heart-to-heart, and Vinatieri decided to stay, but soon enough the kicker had missed enough field goals to compel Daly to bench him in favor of a lineman who had won a tryout for the job. The lineman would miss as many as the kicker did, Vinatieri regained his job and his stroke, and then Daly and his assistant, Trent Baalke, now the San Francisco 49ers general manager, tried to persuade NFL teams to take a shot on Vinatieri in the summer of 1995. Daly called a friend and a South Dakota State grad, Brad Seely, then the special-teams coach with the Carolina Panthers, and he took a pass. The same Brad Seely who would win three Super Bowls with Vinatieri in his next stop.Vinatieri fielded a suggestion from Brian Hansen, an NFL punter out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to contact a kicking coach in Abingdon, Virginia, Doug Blevins, who had just gotten hired by the NFLs World League. Vinatieri kept calling the coach until he agreed to look at his tape, and on film Blevins saw the requisite leg speed and strength of a pro. He remembers meeting his new student at the airport in the fall of 95 and seeing a shocked look on his face; Blevins was born with cerebral palsy and effectively lived in his wheelchair.Blevins fell in love with football as a child and always wanted to coach a game he couldnt play. I see things at full speed, he says, that most people cant see on tape. He saw Vinatieri opening up his shoulders on kickoffs and failing to properly mark off his steps on field goals. Adam drove his pickup 1,500 miles to live near Blevins and to practice under him at the local high school, where they ended workouts with Vinatieri launching fantasy kicks to win the Super Bowl. Adam waited tables and tended bar at Abingdons Martha Washington Inn when he wasnt sharpening his technique or shoveling Blevins car out of the snow. A good human being, the coach calls him.Blevins placed Vinatieri overseas with the Amsterdam Admirals in the spring of 96. Adam showed off his refined right leg and impressed an Amsterdam assistant, Al Tanara, who had been a staffmate with the Patriots coach, Parcells, at Texas Tech. Tanara and Mike Sweatman, New Englands special-teams coach, advised Parcells to sign Vinatieri to compete with 17-year veteran Matt Bahr, who had not only kicked five field goals for Parcells Giants to beat the Joe Montana-Jerry Rice 49ers in the epic 1990 NFC Championship Game in Candlestick Park but had also assured Parcells the following week in the Super Bowl that Scott Norwood would do exactly what he did on his fateful 47-yarder -- push it wide right. So Bahr was a Parcells favorite. He was also 40 years old. On the night before a preseason game, Parcells pulled aside Vinatieri and told him he would take every kick the next day. Im going to see if youve got what it takes, Vinatieri recalls his coach telling him, or if youre going to pack up your s--- and get out of here.Pack up your s--- and get out of here? I dont remember saying that to Adam, Parcells claims, but it sure sounds like something I wouldve said.Vinatieri won the competition and then won something just as valuable when he ran down the Cowboys Herschel Walker on a kickoff return late that season. Parcells told Vinatieri the Walker tackle would change things for him in the locker room. No more would any 300-pound teammate or opponent look at this relatively small man, this soccer player in pads, and see anything but an honest-to-god football player.Super Bowl nostalgiaPeople forever talk about the Tuck Rule kick in a blizzard to beat Oakland in the playoffs 15 years ago, and the field goal to upset the heavily favored Rams in the Super Bowl two weeks later. It makes perfect sense, too. The 45-yarder against the Raiders to force overtime -- with Vinatieri navigating his way through five inches of snow -- has to be the most difficult attempt anyone has converted with a season on the line. It breathed life into a dynasty-to-be and ultimately allowed Vinatieri to take the field against the Rams for the final Super Bowl play -- with some 90 million watching him line up from 48 yards out -- and block out every extraneous sight and sound. It felt like the movies, Vinatieri says, when you see a pitcher on the mound, and everything calms down and gets quiet. He threw a strike down the middle, Coach Blevins started crying in front of a sports bar TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Belichicks and Bradys were born. Vinatieri told Blevins by phone that night he pulled up his head quickly on the kick because that was one ball in flight he positively had to watch. By the time Vinatieri confronted his next make-or-break Super Bowl field goal in Houston two years later, against the Panthers, most of the suspense was gone. But that 41-yarder in Reliant Stadium said a lot more about Vinatieri than most people knew. He missed a 31-yarder early in that Super Bowl, and then a 36-yarder was blocked in the second quarter. As the kicker approached the potential game-winner in the final seconds, he knew his 38-year-old long-snapper, Brian Kinchen, had spent most of that week unraveling before Belichicks eyes, launching balls high and bouncing them in the grass. Kinchen hadnt played in three years when the Patriots summoned him out of retirement late in that 2003 season, and suddenly his attempts to snap the ball to holder Ken Walter started looking like Chuck Knoblauchs old throws from second base to first.Kinchens case of the yips had started in the first playoff victory over Tennessee and had become severe enough to compel him to call Patriots GM Scott Pioli four nights before the Super Bowl and ask for his release. I feel like Im going to ruin this for everybody, Kinchen told the GM. Pioli and Belichick decided against cutting him. Overcome by anxiety, Kinchen would put on his entire uniform in his hotel room at night, bend over near his door and snap a football 40 or 50 times into pillows tucked beneath his window. Nothing worked.Kinchen bounced a Super Bowl snap that Walter successfully scooped on a punt, and he bounced another one that Walter fielded and put down for a Vinatieri extra point. Kinchen saw Vinatieri drop his chin and shake his head and thought about the earlier field goal miss and field goal block. Adam screwed up, Kinchen recalls, because of me.Belichick moved quickly down the sideline and got all over his snapper. Brian, he said, you do realize this is the Super Bowl? You do know youre not doing the job we hired you to do?Kinchen turned the second half into a personal prayer vigil that it wouldnt come down to a field goal. Of course, it came down to a field goal. In the huddle during those closing moments, after Carolina called timeout, Kinchen thought about Bill Buckner and Trey Junkin, who was called out of retirement by the 2002 Giants before ending their season on a botched playoff snap in San Francisco.Vinatieri had to deal with this oil spill. All kickers rely on a smooth operation between long-snapper and holder, and when that trust is broken, bad things happen. But Vinatieri knew as long as Kinchen sent anything remotely catchable, Walter would gather it, and then he would handle the rest. Watching across the field, unaware of the drama playing out in the Patriots huddle, Carolina receiver Ricky Proehl felt sick over what was about to go down. Hed scored the tying touchdown for the Rams two years earlier, before Vinatieris winner, and hed just scored the tying touchdown for the Panthers. On TV screens everywhere, CBS put up a graphic stating that Vinatieri had missed only four indoor field goals in 35 career attempts, but all four were in Reliant Stadium. It didnt matter. Hes not going to miss, Proehl told himself. Games over. This is what he does.Remembering Junkins tentative delivery into infamy, Kinchen decided to fire his snap with a vengeance. He hit his target, and so did Vinatieri. Kinchen scanned the field for a yellow flag that wasnt there, then let loose a primal, vein-popping scream. The snapper shouted an I-told-you-so at a smiling, nodding Belichick on the victory podium, then retreated back into retirement.Vinatieri? He scored the decisive points again in Belichicks third Super Bowl victory the following year and then shocked the world by beating the coach in the race to No. 4.From Patriot to ColtAdam Vinatieri wanted the five years and $12 million the Colts were offering him in free agency after the 2005 season, and the Patriots wanted him to take something less than that. Blevins says he talked to Vinatieri about the value of staying in New England and someday retiring with Brady as one-uniform icons, but that his former student, at 32, was insistent on taking the long-term security. He changed agents as he sought to nail down a deal. Over the years, the Patriots have made a cottage industry out of moving on from star players who either made or wanted to make a dollar or two more than the team thought they were worth, and as much as he loved being a Patriot and working with Belichick and Brady, Vinatieri said he was tired of working under the franchises terms. He recalls thinking, Youve rented me enough. ... Im 32 years old. Ive got plenty of years left. Ive helped you win Super Bowls. Just give me whats fair.Maybe the Patriots felt the Vinatieris emotional attachment to the region would carry the day. But Adam did not give Belichick a chance to match the Colts offer, and his wife, Valerie, shed a few tears over the move. To some, this seemed like a bigger gamble than the one taken by Vinatieris third cousin, Evel Knievel, when he tried (and failed) to rocket himself across the Snake River Canyon. Vinatieri signed on to replace the leagues most accurate leg, Mike Vanderjagt, whose miss at the end of the divisional playoff game against Pittsburgh had just cost Indianapolis its season. The Colts had been eliminated by New England in their 2003 and 2004 championship seasons, and they were paying Vinatieri for one specific reason:To add a piece of that big-game aura and belief required to get Peyton Manning and Dungy a desperately needed ring.Sure enough, the Patriots and Colts met again after the 2006 season, and, sure enough, Vinatieri had landed Indianapolis in that matchup by going 5-for-5 at Baltimore in the divisional round. In the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots carried a 21-6 lead into halftime. Vinatieri had gone 2-for-2 in the first half, and that stat meant nothing to him. I remember kind of losing my cool in the locker room, he said. Yelling. Just yelling, You guys thought it was going to be easy. ... I was just saying, Lets go. Lets get our heads out of our butts and do this.Im pretty low-key and quiet, but I wanted to win that game badly. To a man, the Colts say that game felt like the Super Bowl more than their eventual Super Bowl triumph over Chicago did. Indianapolis stormed back in the second half, and Vinatieri made it 31-31 on a 36-yarder with 5:31 left, setting up the winning touchdown drive to come. When it was over, the focus remained on Manning, who had finally beaten Brady in a big game, and on Dungy, who had finally beaten Belichick in a big game. But Vinatieri had proved his own point. I think everybody in this town needed it for their own reasons, he says. My reasons may be different than their reasons, but we all had to beat New England. On the field, Belichick told Vinatieri he was glad the Colts were going to the Super Bowl if the Patriots could not. Go win this thing, he told the kicker.I thought that was really cool, Vinatieri says. Belichicks Patriots would eliminate Vinatieris Colts after the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and Belichick would win a fourth ring of his own. The race is back on now. Each man burns for that one for his thumb. Most competitive person Ive ever met?Adam Vinatieri is wearing a blue Colts cap and a shirt designed to show off the arms of a linebacker, not a kicker. He has just finished practice at the team facility under a restorative mid-November sun, and its clear that age has done nothing to temper his competitive rage. His snapper, Matt Overton, talks about the crossbar games they play on Fridays with the holder, Pat McAfee, and the coaches and how badly Vinatieri tries to hit the crossbar with his throws more often than his opponents. McAfee -- a punter who, like Vinatieri, projects the muscular vibe of a football player, not a specialist -- talks of the time the kicker was grinding in a charity golf event while outdoing a couple of PGA Tour pros with a 217-yard hybrid shot into the facilitys island green.Vinatieri makes a habit of carrying himself with dignity and grace. But deep inside, McAfee says, [Adam] is the most competitive person Ive ever met in my life.Vinatieri says he treats minicamp practices in the spring as if they are playoff-time practices in January, and that he tells his place-kicking nephews -- including one, Chase, who plays at South Dakota State -- they should never cheat the opportunities before them. Dont ever step on the field, Uncle Adam tells them, and half-ass it.Colts QB Andrew Luck says he has learned so much from Vinatieris relentless consistency in approach, the seriousness with which he attacks every drill, every session, every day. The kicker doesnt speak before the team much, Luck says, but when he does its a very succinct and powerful message. ... Hes probably old enough to be a lot of our fathers, but he does an amazing job of being a big part of the fabric of our locker room. I dont think I truly appreciate him enough. I dont think any of us will truly appreciate how special he is until after hes done playing. And the only NFL player ever to score at least 1,000 points for two franchises still has some work to do. To his records of 44 consecutive made field goals (ended last month against Tennessee) and 234 career postseason points, he wants to add the leagues all-time regular-season scoring record -- he needs 188 points to pass Morten Andersens total of 2,544.If Im fortunate enough to play two more years after this, Vinatieri says, and I could potentially get the record, I think Ill bow out at that point. I dont have any aspirations to play until Im 50 years old.The Hall of Fame is a death-and-taxes lock; the only question is whether fans will remember Vinatieri more as a Patriot or a Colt. Its hard to believe he has played longer in Indianapolis (11 seasons) than he did in Foxborough (10), but dome kicking has helped him stay young. Vinatieri has made 23 of 26 field goal attempts this season, for an efficiency rate of 88.5 percent, giving him a chance to complete a third straight year at north of 90 percent.Funny how it has all worked out. He grew up wanting to be Dan Marino?and ended up in an NFL locker room with teammates from a different generation calling him the place-kicking GOAT -- greatest of all time. Vinatieri has participated in more victories (219) than any NFL player dead or alive. How did it happen? His special-teams coach, Tom McMahon, speaks of Vinatieris singular focus on his foot and the ball, his explosive trajectory, and his running battle with the word cant.Above all else, McMahon says, Adam is very comfortable with himself. I think all of us find ourselves eventually. I think he found himself at a young age.At an elementary school age, to be exact. Vinatieri learned from his first winning coach, Marcy Farrand, how to beat the odds and effectively become a man as a boy. Thats why he has lasted 21 seasons in the NFL. And its why his legend will resonate a whole lot longer than that. Mike Person Super Bowl Jersey . -- On the field, it was business as usual for Jameis Winston and No. Terrell Owens Super Bowl Jersey . -- Sergey Tolchinksy scored his second goal of the game 3:56 into overtime as the Sault Ste. CINCINNATI -- For most of the game, A.J. Green piled up more yards than the entire Miami Dolphins offense in a virtuoso performance. As an encore, he thrilled the crowd by juggling some Florida citrus. The Bengals receiver followed his disappointing game with a dominating one -- 173 yards and a touchdown -- and a Cincinnati defense that was inspired by Vontaze Burficts return clamped down on the Dolphins for a 22-7 victory Thursday night. The Bengals (2-2) rebounded from a 29-17 home loss to Denver on Sunday with a solid all-around game against a depleted team.Green led the way, beating the Dolphins (1-3) on every type of route . He was upset with himself after he dropped a pivotal third-down pass and failed to make an impact against the Broncos.I hold myself to a very high standard, said Green, who had 10 catches. I know what Im capable of. Last week I didnt perform to that level. I had to refocus on a short week.During the first three quarters, Green had 166 yards on catches while Miami had 152 total yards. The Bengals season-long problem of stalling out near the goal line forced them to settle for Mike Nugents season-high five field goals.Afterward, Green and Andy Dalton appeared on the postgame show, and the receiver entertained the dozens of Bengals fans who stayed around by smoothly juggling three oranges at the interview desk.Any time he was one-on-one, he was able to make the play, Dalton said. The Dolphins were missing four starting offensive linemen, two linebackers, running back Arian Foster and tight end Jordan Cameron. They had one big play -- Ryan Tannehill threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills -- but couldnt do anything else on offense.Weve got to get it fixed and quick, and by that I mean Monday, Tannehill said. Were kind of in a dark spot right now. Its squarely on our shoulders. The Bengals defense expected to get a lift from Burficts return. The volatile linebacker was suspended by the NFL for the first three games because of his illegal hits. He got a loud ovation when he ran onto the field during introductions wearing a baseball cap. Burfict knocked down a pass and had three tackles.Hes amazing, end Carlos Dunlap said. Did you see the plays he made? Those arent plays you can coach. He came off his couch and played great. Itss good to have him back. Kendrick Bourne Super Bowl Jersey. Mostly, it was Greens show. HOUSTON -- Evan Gattis doesnt know why he hits better when he catches compared to when hes the designated hitter. Carlos Beltran Jersey .Ive seen the stats and heard its kind of a big split, but I just want to pretend like Im catching when Im not, Gattis said.He was catching Saturday night, and his bat came alive.Gattis had two home runs and four RBI in his return to the lineup, Collin McHugh threw six strong innings and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-2.Gattis sat Friday with a bruised right hand after being hit by a pitch Wednesday. He came back Saturday and launched a three-run homer into the Crawford Boxes in left field in the second inning and added a solo shot off the facade in left-center in the fourth to give Houston a 5-0 lead.Glad I got a good pitch to hit, Gattis said. The first one I took I thought I took it well. It was borderline ball/strike away. Just really let the ball travel a little bit today as best I could. It was his sixth career multihomer game and first since hitting a pair Aug. 26, 2015, against the Yankees. For his career, Gattis entered hitting .260 with a .512 slugging percentage as a catcher, compared to .230 with a .422 slugging percentage when hes the DH. Hes also hit 38 homers in 153 games as a catcher, compared to 31 homers in 187 games as DH.Im sure someone smarter than me can figure it out, Houston manager A.J. Hinch said. I dont know if its actually true in the numbers. It feels like it and in all seriousness I think its the result of keeping him occupied, keeping his mind occupied, keeping his mind in the game.Carlos Correa had a solo home run to right in the fifth.McHugh (7-6) allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings. He continued his string of solid outings, allowing two runs or fewer for the sixth time in his last seven starts.I probably could have made some better pitches in better situations, McHugh said. But I think for the stuff we had Gatty did a really good job of guiding me through a couple of spots where I just wasnt feeling it.Houston has won 10 straight against the Angels. It tacked on a run in the third when Jered Weaver (8-8) hit Preston Tucker with the bases loaded, scoring George Springer. Springer knocked an RBI single in the fourth.Ji-Man Choi had a solo home run to the upper deck in right field to lead off the fifth, and Andrelton Simmons hit an RBI single in the sixth for the Angels.Weaver was roughed up for six runs and seven hits in four innings. The right-hander has struggled against Houston this season, allowing 16 runs in 15 1/3 innings.I just think that obviously, I dont have the same (stuff) that I used to have is first and foremost, Weaver said. They have become a pretty patient team. Not as free swinging. They make you work for it. I had to work my (butt) off there in the second and third.TRAINERS ROOMAstros: C Jason Castro was out of the lineup Saturday after being hit on the back of his right hand on a foul tip in the ninth inning Friday. This morning he felt it was OK, Hinch said. He took a few swings and felt a little bit of soreness, so I decided to scratch him.ROSTER MOVESAngels: Los Angeles called up Carlos Perez from Triple-A Salt Lake. STELLENBOSCH, South Africa -- It seems the sports world just doesnt know what to do with an athlete like Caster Semenya. The South African runner, and others like her, may present one of the greatest dilemmas for the perception of fairness in sports.Athletes like Semenya with intersex conditions -- those that dont conform to standard definitions of male or female -- debunk any presumption that everyone fits neatly into those definitive categories in sports.According to sports scientist Ross Tucker, the biology isnt quite as simple as that.Semenyas story is well-known. As an 18-year-old newcomer at the 2009 world championships, she dominated the best womens 800-meter runners. The gap between her and the defending world champion, who finished second, was astounding. Semenya celebrated by showing off her bicep muscles, stoking a controversy sparked hours earlier by revelations that she had undergone sex verification tests. She was later sidelined for 11 months by world tracks governing body, the IAAF, and was only cleared to run again in 2010. She returned and won a silver medal in the 800 at the 2012 Olympics. Now 25 and the favorite for gold at the Rio Olympics, Semenya has been pursued by gender questions. But her case has never been about a man masquerading as a woman.Semenya is a woman because she says shes a woman, was legally recognized at birth as female, treated as female, and identified as female. Nobody can dictate to Semenya what gender she is.But since the 1950s, track and field has conducted sex testing to protect womens competitions, initially using very basic sexual anatomy tests, and later using chromosomes. The tests didnt work.Sex testing in sports should be about preventing an unfair advantage and, therefore, not about genitalia or chromosomes, which dont make athletes run faster, jump higher or throw farther. What does, according to the IAAF, is testosterone. The IAAF says testosterone is the most significant factor in athletic performance. Men, generally, have more testosterone than women. In 2011, the IAAF officially drew a line between men and women in terms of testosterone. The issue it sought to resolve was hyperandrogenism -- high levels of naturally occurring testosterone in some women that apparently gave them a competitive advantage.Tucker said research conducted by the IAAF showed six women with intersex conditions competed at the 2011 world championships. Joanna Harper, an expert on gender in sports and a consultant to the IAAF, thinks two female medalists at this years indoor world championships are probably intersex, and estimated 5-10 intersex athletes will compete in track and field at the Rio Olympics.Six years after Semenya was subjected to the IAAF tests, the lid was lifted on her situation in 2015. Thats when Indian sprinter Dutee Chand went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport -- the highest court in world sports -- and challenged the IAAF rules that regulated testosterone in hyperandrogenic women. The case forced the IAAF to publicly defend its rules that for hyperandrogenic women to be eligible to compete as women, their testosterone levels must be below a certain mark. It came down to a tiny measurement: how many nanomoles -- a billionth of a mole -- of testosterone a woman had per liter of blood. It couldnt be 10 nanomoles or more per liter, roughly the lower end of the male range. If it was 10 or higher, it had to be lowered.Harper said the testosterone levels of these hyperandrogenic women could be lowered either through the removal of internal testes or with hormone-suppressing medication.Former Olympic runner Bruce Kidd, a professor of physical education and an adviser to Chand, opposes the testosterone-limiting rule. Hee argues that the testosterone is natural in these women, and although men produce more of it, there is nothing to say that testosterone is a male hormone. Craig Biggio Jersey. Dutee and Caster are (competing) with their own chemicals, Kidd said. They are fully in keeping with the Olympic spirit of being true to yourself and playing without doping. So why are they being castigated for that? I think it is so unfair.Significantly, the IAAF accepted that its rules were basically discriminatory but were devised in search of a greater justice: fairness for womens track and field.Opponents of the testosterone rule pointed to the natural advantages of other athletes that arent regulated, such as Usain Bolts fast-twitch muscle fibers, Michael Phelps big wingspan and former cyclist Miguel Indurains huge lung capacity.Harper, who supports the testosterone-limiting rules, explained that sports competitions dont have categories for athletes with slow twitch, short arms or small lungs. But womens sports are protected because if they werent, there would be serious ramifications for Olympic qualification.Chand -- and by default, Semenya -- won an interim decision last year in the Court of Arbitration for Sport case, but on a different reasoning. The IAAF didnt have definitive evidence to show how much of an advantage the extra testosterone gave hyperandrogenic women. CAS gave the IAAF until July 2017 to provide the evidence needed to reinstate the rule, which wont be in place in Rio.The IAAF said it doesnt comment on individuals who were managed under its hyperandrogenism regulations, but it still believes in the rules. Work is ongoing to find evidence.Harper is involved in that process and expects to be an expert witness for the IAAF when the case returns to court. The best evidence might be provided right now by Semenya.Since the testosterone regulations were shelved, Semenya has won every major 800-meter race she entered this season -- running a personal best last month and the fastest time anywhere in seven years. Her best time this year is around four seconds faster than last year.Tucker predicted it.At the start of the season, when Semenya was competing at the South African national championships, Tucker posted a tweet saying she could break Jarmila Kratochvilovas 33-year-old world record of 1:53.28 for the 800 this season. He thinks that without testosterone regulation, Semenya, a good athlete anyway, could become untouchable. You need a person who comes along and has got all the attributes that would make an elite athlete, plus they have high testosterone. Then you will get a freakishly good athlete, and thats the case with Semenya, Tucker said. If I was a woman 800-meter runner right now, Id be looking to change careers. You cant beat this advantage. Its too big.But Alice Dreger, a historian of medicine and science who has written about Semenya, poses a question with regard to the testosterone regulations and what the IAAF is trying to achieve with its proposed limits:The data they have indicates it causes the athletes performance to drop precipitously, basically eliminating them from play, Dreger said. So what does it really mean to say `you can compete if you get these interventions, if the interventions mean you cant really compete anymore?Semenya, often media-shy, smiled and spoke easily with reporters at the nationals, saying she was starting to enjoy the sport again.I havent had fun, you know, in a while, she said.---Follow Gerald Imray on Twitter: the Rio de Janeiro Games at ' ' '
ALLEN PARK, Mich. Custom Dallas Stars Jerseys . -- Golden Tate is still a starter for the Detroit Lions at wide receiver after being benched during the second half of Sundays 17-14 loss to the Chicago Bears.Lions coach Jim Caldwell said Monday that he still expects a lot out of Tate even after he played just 57 percent of snaps Sunday after playing more than 85 percent of snaps in the first three games of the season.Asked directly about the wide receivers role in the future, Caldwell called Tate a starter.Hes still an integral part of what we do, Caldwell said. Hes still a guy that you can anticipate that youll see things will turn around for him.Tate has struggled so far this season after being a reliable option for the Lions in his first two years with the team. He has 14 catches for 95 yards this season and is averaging a career-low 6.79 yards per catch. He had put up back-to-back 90 reception years with the Lions in 2014 and 2015, including a 1,331-yard season in 2014 that ended in a Pro Bowl berth.Everybody has a role, an important role, Caldwell said. But the fact of the matter is, like I mentioned, there may be some games where he was one or two catches and somebody else has 10.Its going to happen that way, particularly when you have receivers and you have one ball and a number of guys that can make plays for you. After the game Sunday, Caldwell explained Tates benching as something the team was always planning on in order to get Andre Roberts more work. Tate, though, indicated he was not told he would be playing so little in the second half.Tate and quarterback Matthew Stafford had a miscommunication that led to an interception in the second quarter and, eventually, his benching. Tate took the blame for the miscommunication, calling it a silly mistake on his part. Dallas Stars Gear . Most important, perhaps, it went off without a hitch. MS Dhoni, the India captain, has called for improvement while bowling in the first six overs and has asked his bowlers to assess conditions quickly, to determine what a competitive spell is ahead of the second T20 international against West Indies in Florida on Sunday. Air Max 270 Black And Orange .India had conceded the third highest T20I total - 245 - in the first game on Saturday morning but then chased superbly, only to fall short by one run. West Indies had built their score on a rollicking opening stand between Johnson Charles and Evin Lewis - 126 in 9.3 overs.I felt the way the boys performed overall was very good, Dhoni said after the game. If we can improve how we bowl in the first six overs - in fact it was the first 12 overs where we gave away too many runs.Dhoni said there needed to be quicker recognition from the bowlers to adjust their game plans when it became clear that the pristine batting pitch was suiting the West Indies hyper-aggressive approach spearheaded by Charles, who struck 79 off 33 balls.Immediately, as a bowler, what you have to do is you have to assess the conditions and change your game plan to some extent, Dhoni said. Normally you think on a good wicket if Im bowling four overs, if I even get hit for 40 runs and get one or two wickets, its good enough. So you have to quickly assess what is a good bowling analysis on this wicket. Maybe the way everybody got hit, it seemed like a four-over 50 [runs], and if you get a couple of wickets or more you are in the plus. The bulk of Indias chasing was done by KL Rahul, who scored 110 off 51 balls, his maiden T20I hundred in only his fourth game. He said he hoped to go from strength to strength. It is very disappointing to be on the losing side but whats good to see is that we did not give up half way through, Rahul told the BCCI website. The West Indies had put up a big total for us to chase and what we spoke in the dressing room was to try to take the game as long as we could and the way everyone came and approached this innings was very good to see … Happy with the approach, but disappointed with the result.Rahul and Dhoni put on 107 in 8.1 overs for the fourth wicket, the partnership ending off the final ball of the game, which Dhoni edged to short third man when India needed two to win. Rahul said the game could have gone anywhere. As soon as he [Dhoni] came in, I knew that he would make me run a lot, Rahul said. I was already tired by the time he came, but he kept on pushing me and like I said we just kept things simple out there in the middle. We required 13 runs an over. He said that even if we get 11-12 runs till the sixteenth over, it was ok and we could go big in the last couple of overs. We were favouring one end and hit sixes on that side and we knew that they did not have overs left from their main bowlers in the death. That was the plan and we just kept hitting well, kept connecting. We got 11-12 runs easily in an over. Just unfortunate it was one of those days when the game couldve gone anywhere.India are currently second on the ICCs T20I rankings, with West Indies third. They will swap positions if West Indies win on Sunday and take the series 2-0. Their new T20 captain Carlos Brathwaite said Saturdays win and the manner in which it was achieved reaffirmed that the reigning World T20 champions were the top T20 side in world cricket. We became world champions and now were here to defend that and show that we are number one in the world and show why we are, Brathwaite said. The rankings say that were number three and the plan is for us to go out tomorrow, give another big effort for the last, go 2-0 up, win the series and move to number two in the rankings. Air Max 270 React Brown . -- Charlie Graham stopped 67 shots as the Belleville Bulls edged the visiting Guelph Storm 6-5 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action. Air Max 270 Flight Gold . Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan scored shootout goals, and backup goalie Cam Talbot earned his second win in two nights as the Rangers shook off a late tying tally and beat the Maple Leafs 2-1 Monday night. . Jay Feely kicked a 41-yard field goal in overtime, and the Cardinals edged the Tennessee Titans 37-34 in overtime after blowing a 17-point lead late in the fourth quarter. HOOVER, Alabama -- New?Georgia?coach Kirby Smart?anticipated not having one of his star running backs available at the start of preseason camp, but he didnt expect both to be sidelined.Star tailbacks Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will be limited when the Bulldogs begin full-contact drills in preseason camp next month, Smart said Tuesday. The coach isnt sure how much either one of them will be available for the Sept. 3 opener against?North Carolina?in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at?the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. It makes it tough, said Smart, who was speaking at his first SEC Media Days as Georgias head coach on Tuesday. I think its a little more stressful for the coaches, especially the offensive coaches, on how we handle those first two scrimmages. Our identity is being big and physical and we want to run the ball. Well, our two backs that are best at doing that have two question marks by them.Chubb, who ran for 1,547 yards as a freshman in 2014 and had 745 yards in the first five games last season, is still recovering from torn knee ligaments and cartilage damage in his left knee. He underwent surgery on Oct. 23, after injuring his knee on his only carry in a 38-31 loss at Tennessee on Oct. 10.Chubb, a junior from Cedartown, Georgia, was able to participate in spring practice, but was held out of all drills involving full contact. The big thing with Nick is going to be live, full-contact tackling, Smart said. Hell do pretty much everything in the first part of camp. Hell catch the ball and do drills and a llot of the thud work. Air Max 270 Ultramarine. The psychological part of going through the first tackling is going to be a big thing for him. We have people working with him on that aspect of it.Michel, a junior from Plantation, Florida, underwent surgery on July 4 after breaking his left forearm in an ATV accident a day earlier. Smart said Michel suffered an open wound and wasnt released from the hospital until Friday.Michel ran for 1,161 yards with eight touchdowns last season, with much of his production coming after Chubbs injury.Although doctors initially projected Michels recovery would take six to eight weeks, Smart said he isnt sure when hell be back.We dont know, Smart said. Its an injury they dont have a lot of experience with because its a non-football injury.Last season, Smart was Alabamas defensive coordinator when running back Kenyan Drake broke his left arm in a 31-6 win at Mississippi State on Nov. 14. Drake didnt suffer a compound fracture and was able to return to action three weeks later in the Tides 29-15 victory over Alabama in the SEC championship game.People say it [will take Michel] six to eight weeks, Smart said. Kenyans was less than that, but his injury was less than that.Until Chubb and Michel are available, senior Brendan Douglas,?sophomore Shaquery Wilson and freshmen Tae Crowder,?Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield?figure to share carries in preseason camp. FAIRFAX, Va. Mike Tomczak Jersey . -- William Adala Moto and Mike Morsell combined to score 43 points and Towson used a late surge to knock off former Colonial Athletic Association rival George Mason, 67-61 in the season opener Saturday night.George Mason held a 31-30 lead at intermission and nursed a slim lead through much of the second half. But Eddie Keith IIs jumper with 8:29 left gave Towson the lead for good, 47-46.Otis Livingston hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left that got George Mason within four, 65-61, but Morsell (21 points) and Adala Moto (22) each converted free throws to keep the Patriots at bay.Jalen Jenkins had 19 points to lead the Patriots. The teams were CAA rivals for 12 seasons. The Patriots won 19 straight before losing their final league contest. After the Patriots joined the Atlantic 10, Towson won a non-conference contest last year. George Gulyanics Jersey . Following a lopsided 5-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Paul MacLean told reporters that "theres a lack of focus, theres a lack of leadership and theres a lack of preparation" with his struggling team. That came on the heels of Bryan Murray taking the unusual step of going into the locker room at the Prudential Center and addressing the players himself. Bob Parsons Jersey . Louis. To which I would say two things: 1. Where there is smoke, there is or perhaps has been a little fire. Or, in other words, the two teams would appear to have at least spoken. And spoken is defined as one calling the other to inquire, no more, no less. . 31, the CFL club announced Monday. The team also has yet to decide on the future of Doug Berry, who began the season as a consultant to the head coach but took over the offensive co-ordinators duties in July. The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to awaken their slumbering offense. Atlanta Braves right-hander Joel De La Cruz is just looking for a victory.De La Cruz (0-7, 4.66 ERA) will oppose Jeremy Hellickson (10-8, 3.80 ERA) when the National League East rivals open a three-game series Friday night in Citizens Bank Park.De La Cruz, a 27-year-old rookie, signed with the Braves as a free agent in December, having previously pitched in the minors for the New York Yankees, Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers. His struggles have continued even as the National Leagues worst team has gone on a rare hot streak, winning four of five and five of seven. De La Cruz has pitched to a 6.60 ERA over his last four outings. Most recently he was tagged with a 7-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants, lasting just four innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits. He struck out two without walking a batter.De La Cruz surrendered four consecutive two-out hits in the first inning, including an RBI single by Brandon Belt and a two-run double by Joe Panik. He then yielded a two-run homer to Angel Pagan in the second, after an error by second baseman Jace Peterson.(De La Cruz) threw the ball OK, but when (your defense) makes some miscues, youve got to be able to get the next guy out, Braves manager Brian Snitker said, according to Major League Baseballs official web site. He wasnt able to do that. I think in the third inning, things were little bit better and crisper. But to assess his performance, it wasntt real good. Dick Butkus Jersey. He has faced Philadelphia three times this season, twice as a starter and once as a reliever, going 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA over 11 innings. The Phillies, who have lost five of six, are last in the major leagues with 492 runs, and their .238 team batting average is next-to-last. They are also hitting an MLB-worst .224 at home, and managed three runs on nine hits while being swept in a three-game series by the Nationals earlier this week.Nine hits in a three-game series isnt going to cut it, manager Pete Mackanin said after a 2-1 loss in Wednesdays series finale. Were just not hitting the ball. We need more offense, obviously.Hellickson leads the Phillies in victories, and 15 of his first 18 outings were quality starts. Last time out, however, Hellickson went just four innings against the New York Mets, his second-shortest appearance of the season, and allowed five runs on seven hits to absorb a 12-1 loss.Hellickson, who saw his ERA balloon from 3.60 to 3.80, gave up a two-run homer to Asdrubal Cabrera in the third, and a three-run homer to Yoenis Cespedes in the fourth.I just lost command of pretty much all three pitches tonight, Hellickson told I think the two home runs were probably two of the better fastballs that I threw. Its a good lineup. Its hot right now.Hellickson is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in two career starts against the Braves. ' ' '
LAHAINA, Hawaii -- North Carolina had a hard time shaking pesky Chaminade early. Air Max 270 Bowfin Gris . Once the Tar Heels turned into a bully, they were able to run away from the Silverswords.Isaiah Hicks scored 22 points, Kennedy Meeks had 20 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 4 North Carolina overpowered host Chaminade 104-61 Monday night in the Maui Invitational. Were just too big for them, Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said.North Carolina (5-0) needed a little time to gain some separation from the Division II Silverswords, doing so midway through the first half by pounding the ball inside. The Tar Heels outscored Chaminade 46-8 in the paint and had 26 second-chance points on 17 offensive rebounds to earn a spot in the semifinals against Oklahoma State on Tuesday.Tony Bradley added 14 points and North Carolina shot 57 percent from the floor. Meeks and Hicks, both seniors, scored 20 points in the same game for the first time.We knew they were going to compete, said Meeks, who hit all seven of his shots from the floor. I know through watching them through the years and seen them knock off teams in this tournament. We definitely took advantage of the things we should have, getting the ball inside and hitting shots.Chaminade (2-1) shot well early to hang with the Tar Heels, but had little chance once they picked up the defensive pressure and got the ball inside on offense. The Silverswords went 10 of 28 from 3-point range but were outrebounded 52-23.Rohndell Goodwin led Chaminade with 18 points, and Kiran Shastri added 13.It was pretty obvious to everybody that size and strength was the difference in this game, Chaminade coach Eric Bovaird said. They had (17) offensive rebounds and we had 23 total. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that out.Chaminade has a team filled with upperclassmen and has had a penchant for pulling off upsets. The Silverswords helped start the Maui Invitational with their shocker over top-ranked Virginia in 1982 and have knocked off big-name programs at this tournament through the years, most recently Texas in 2012.North Carolina was not a favorable matchup for them. The Tar Heels are long, athletic and considered national-title contenders even with forwards Luke Maye and Theo Pinson out with injuries. The Silverswords only shot at another upset would be to shoot the lights out. They did early, making 12 of their first 21 field goal attempts to stay within 28-24 midway through the first half. But then North Carolinas size inside began to wear Chaminade down.Behind the 6-foot-10 Meeks and the 6-9 Hicks, the Tar Heels started to stretch the lead. Meeks had 14 points by halftime, Hicks 13 and they combined to hit 11 of 13 shots to help North Carolina build a 50-34 advantage. The Tar Heels opened the second half with an 11-4 run and never looked back.We felt like we could play them with our guards, but what can you do with three 6-11 guys? Goodwin said. Its only so much we can do.BIG PICTUREAfter a slow start, the Tar Heels did what they were supposed to against an overmatched opponent. Theyll need a better start against Oklahoma States pressure defense in the semifinals.Chaminade again showed it can hang with the big boys, at least for stretches.UP NEXTNorth Carolina faces Oklahoma State in the semifinals on Tuesday.Chaminade meets UConn in the second round. Air Max 270 Femme Rose Pas Cher . TORONTO -- Sixty minutes into the World Cup of Hockey and the American plan, so meticulously mapped out, is in tatters. Air Max 270 React Blanche Pas Cher .All the talk of identity and character and imposing their will on opponents was swept aside by the shocking results of the teams tournament-opening 3-0 loss to Team Europe on Saturday. The loss, of course, was disastrous, putting the Americans in the position of pretty much having to beat host and pre-tournament favorite Canada on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN) to have a legitimate chance of advancing from the three-game preliminary round. But it was the manner in which this game was lost that is most disheartening and calls into question almost every aspect of this team, from how it was originally selected to the game plan envisioned and even to the personnel decisions for the opening-game roster. This is not a marathon, as coaches always talk about in NHL seasons, this is a sprint, Team USA head coach John Tortorella said. Weve put ourselves in a spot, now were chasing. Were chasing the tournament. Its a spot we didnt want to be in. Its a very dangerous spot, but we are here. We just need to stay together and not blow ourselves up here, have a couple of good days of practice and get ready for our next opponent and try to do better.Hes right, of course. The Americans still control their own fate. The Americans split two pre-tournament games with the powerful Canadians, but what we saw from Team USA Saturday afternoon suggests they are a long way away from where theyll need to be to beat Canada and revive their hopes of advancing. What was supposed to be a hard-driving, blue-collar group of players who would push the pace and exact a toll physically on any and all opponents was inexcusably flat-footed throughout the first two periods. They missed assignments, and while they allowed only 17 shots on goal, they inexplicably allowed multiple odd-man rushes that allowed a surprisingly disciplined, patient Team Europe to score early in both the first and second periods and carry a 3-0 lead into the third. An American team that eschewed more talented offensive players Phil Kessel, Tyler Johnson, Kevin Shattenkirk and Justin Faulk in order to be a team that would be harder to play against was shockingly passive until it was too late.Through the first two periods there might have been two consecutive shifts that revealed that kind of hockey. Not the start that we had drawn or had anticipated, said veteran Zach Parise, who earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2010 Olympics, but who was also part of a 2014 Olympic team that was shut out in their final two games in Sochi, Russia.Saturdays shutout loss now counts three straight goalless outings in best-on-best tournaments for the Americans.Parise noted there has been a significant gap between Sochi and the start of the World Cup of Hockey. If we got shut out every game this tournament, then we can talk about it, Parise said. Then he paused. You know what? You kind of look back at those games in Russia, and unable to get one, and then unable to get one tonight, so yeah, weve got to do a better job as forwards as a group, he acknowledged. After going 0-for-4 on the power play and failing to get one of their 35 shots past European goalie Jaroslav Halak on Saturday, the decision to leave hard-shooting defenseman Dustin Byfuglien off Saturdays roster seems ill-conceived. Likewise, its easy in the wake of the loss to second-guess the decision to have grinding winger Justin Abdelkader in the lineup ahead of Kyle Palmieri, who scored 30 goals for the New Jersey Devils last season.Of course, if the players who were in the lineup had executed the game plan successfully, well, the story would be different, no?But they didnt.Captain Joe Pavelski led the team with five shots but has yet to find his stride.Brandon Dubinsky took a double minor early in the third period with a needless high stick on Zdeno Chara behind the Team Europe net, and Ryan Kesler, whose agitating presence is key to American success, took two minor penalties in the first half of the game.Defending NHL scoring champ and league MVP Patrick Kane had four shots on net but continued his struggles offensively on the international stage. His turnover at the Team Europe blue line led to an embarrassing 2-on-0 goal by Leon Draisaitl that gave Team Europe a 2-0 lead in the second period.Thats a play that Ive made a million times in my career, Kane said. Just kind of lost the puck, and the next thing you know, they go down 2-on-0. Thats unacceptable from me. But at the same time throughout the game we had chances, we had looks, just didnt really seem to get a break in that game, which is unfortunate because that was a huge game for us.And lets be very clear on one key element: Team Europe was full value for this victory.Marian Gaborik, Frans Nielsen, Draisaitl, Roman Josi and, of course, Halak, had strong games. And a team that began the pre-tournament schedule being embarrassed by Team North America has now beaten Sweden and the U.S. in back-to-back games.Weve come here to play nine periods, and like everybody else, we want to play next weekend, a defiant Team Europe head coach Ralph Krueger said.So that was from the get-go the reason for us to be here. We didnt see ourselves as just a sideshow ever. This group has always been building to do this, what happened today.Sideshow? Far from it. Team Europes victory Saturday reinforces that things like identity arent forged by words but by confronting adversity. And while many believed Team Europe would be easy prey for teams like Canada and, yes, the United States, their commitment to their plan and to their teammates has dramatically altered the narrative of this tournament. Now Team USA has until Tuesday to figure out a way to alter a storyline that right now looks like it will end very quickly at the World Cup of Hockey. Air Max 270 React Rose . Its not the biggest stadium, its intimate but its loud, people are close to the pitch so its going to be great.Players began arriving Monday for training. The top three nations qualify for the 2018 World Cup, and the No. 4 team advances to a playoff against the fifth-place Asian team for another berth.Mexico has gone 12-1-2 since former Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio took over in October 2015 -- the loss was a 7-0 quarterfinal defeat to Chile in Copa America in June.We know the crowd is going to be on our side, said 20-year-old midfielder Lynden Gooch, who plays for Sunderland in the English Premier League. The San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks face each other Monday at the AT&T Center in San Antonio in a battle between two teams moving in opposite directions on the NBA superhighway. Luis Gonzalez Jersey .San Antonio (10-3) has won five straight games after an uncharacteristic three-game losing streak at home. The Spurs head back to the Alamo City after beating Sacramento and the Los Angeles Lakers on the road last week and after will be fresh for Mondays contest after a weekend of rest.On Friday against the Lakers, LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard scored 23 points each to lead seven players in double figures in a 116-107 victory as San Antonio remained undefeated on the road (7-0).Tonight we got 30 assists, which is a good number for us, Spurs center/forward Pau Gasol said. We want to continue to do that because we have so many talented and great players that when we move the ball were hard to stop.San Antonio shot .564 from the field and .947 from the charity stripe against the Lakers and set a season high for points in a quarter with 39 in the third. We are concentrating on moving the ball better and its been improving with each game, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. The win was No. 1,099 for Popovich, which broke a tie for seventh on the NBAs career wins list with former Spurs coach Larry Brown.Through its first 13 games, San Antonio leads the league in free-throw percentage and is second in 3-point shooting percentage. The Spurs have now won at least 10 of their first 13 games in 11 of the past 20 seasons. San Antonio is leading the Southwest Division and is third in the Western Conference.Conversely, Dallas (2-10) has lost five straight outings, including Saturday nights 97-87 defeat at Orlando in which the Mavericks were outscored 31-18 in the final quarter.Guard Jonathan Gibson, who was signed by injury-depleted Dallas on Nov. 17, appeared in his second career NBA game and scored a game-high 26 points for the Mavericks to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 32 minutes. Gibson became the first undrafted player to score at least 26 points in his first or second career NBA game since Lloyd Daniels of the Spurs scored 26 at Denver on Nov. 7, 1992 (in his second NBA game).Seth Curry (13), Wesley Matthews (13) and Harrison Barnes (11) also scored in double figures for Dallas in the loss to the Magic. The Mavericks continue to battle on without four key players: Forward Dirk Nowitzki (right Achilles strain) and guards Jose Juan Barea (left calf strain) and Deron Williams (left calf strain) are not with the team and guard Devin Harris (right great toe sprain) is out for Mondays game.Im not gonna put lipstick on a pig here -- weve got some things we have to deal with, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. We have to play very efficiently, very tough, very together right now.Ive been through tough stretches with multiple key personnel out before, and its very difficult. But its very important for me to stay positive and keep coaching these guys and keep talking about ways to put us in position to win. We gotta do the right things and find a way to get it done. Theres nothing easy about this.Barnes is averaging a career-high (team-high) 21.3 points per game this season. Hes led Dallas in scoring in eight of the teams first 12 games. We just have to keep the fight going, Barnes said. You cant feel sorry for yourself. You cant get down. The schedule doesnt get any easier. We just have to bring the same fight make or miss and just keep the energy up.The Mavericks are last in the NBA in defensive 3-point percentage while the Spurs are second in the league in shooting from beyond the arc, showing San Antonio is not a good matchup for Dallas at this stage in the season. The Spurs have won five straight and 19 of the last 23 regular-season meetings with Dallas, including all four contests between the teams last season. San Antonio has won 11 in a row at AT&T Center against the Mavericks. George Springer Jersey . Either side of the disastrous Australian tour of India in 2013, much comment passed within and outside the team about the lack of experience contained in the first touring squad chosen after the retirements of Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey.Among the points raised by certain Cricket Australia figures by way of a response was to say, A lot of these guys have experience in India, they play in the IPL. This was a little bit like saying that a belief in Father Christmas equates to a working knowledge of the North Pole: some vague geographical crossover but little else.Similarly, Australias forthcoming Test series in Sri Lanka has been knitted into a wider story about Project Asia, and the need to adapt to subcontinental conditions in order to succeed here. While it is undoubtedly true that Australia must lift in this part of the world, and that Sri Lanka is a part of the region, a closer reading illustrates that it is too simplistic to suggest the right formula here will work in other parts of Asia.Even a cursory glimpse at Australias record when travelling to face their three major subcontinental opponents bears this out in the most stark of terms. Since 1971 they have won only once - in 2004 - away to India, and only twice away to Pakistan - in 1998 and 2002 - since 1960. Yet over 13 Tests across five tours of Sri Lanka, the hosts have been victorious in just a solitary match, against Australias six victories. That win came after the Australians were left two players short via the horrible collision between Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie on day two of the 1999 Kandy Test. Rain then curtailed matches two and three, gifting the series to Sri Lanka. It must be said that Australia have not always won their matches in Sri Lanka by vast margins, and, notably in Colombo in 1992 and Kandy in 2004, recovered narrow victories from most unlikely positions early in the game. There is also the fact that numerous Australians have produced something close to career peaks on these tours, in ways many of the same players did not manage elsewhere.Shane Warne was seldom better with the ball than on his return from a drugs ban in 2004, Damien Martyn and Darren Lehmann likewise with the bat. In 2011, Hussey scooped a hat-trick of match awards to help deliver a win for Michael Clarke in his first series as Test captain. But there are undoubtedly other factors at play on Australian visits to Sri Lanka that go beyond the vagaries of individual matches or combatants. These range from matters of climate, mentality and history to the demography of the island nation. All have raised their heads repeatedly, and Steven Smiths men may well capitalise on them once more this time around.Sri Lankas climate and pitches offer just enough assistance to seamers Where India and Pakistan have broken the spirits of numerous Australian pacemen, Sri Lankas tropical climes have always provided that little bit of extra encouragement, whether through the air or off the pitch. Warnes path was often smoothed in 2004 by early wickets to Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz. In 2011, a deck in Galle prepared ostensibly for spinners was used grandly by Shane Watson and Ryan Harris, who made use of reverse swing and up-and-down bounce respectively.Perhaps the most telling examples actually come from when the tables are turned: Tom Moody never played another Test after being unable to handle the moving ball as an opener in 1992; on the same tour Mark Waugh made four consecutive ducks, earning the sobriquet Audi. Sri Lankas lone victory was set up not by Muttiah Muralitharan but Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa, who dropped the tourists to 5 for 40 on the first morning before any wickets fell to spin.Australia seldom lose thee patience battle with bat or ball It isnt hard to recall subcontinental days when Australias bowlers have been bereft of ideas on how to claim a wicket: think Dravid and Laxman in Kolkata in 2001, Sachin Tendulkar in 1998 or 2010, or Shikhar Dhawans assault three years ago. Framber Valdez Jersey. But those junctures never seem to come in Sri Lanka, with a wicket seldom more than an hour or two away. That is borne out by the indifferent records of Aravinda de Silva, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara against Australia. In 2011, Sangakkara was out to Nathan Lyons first ball in Tests and also managed to be winkled out by Hussey. Equally, Sri Lankas spinners have been unable to swarm over Australia in the manner of Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, R Ashwin or Yasir Shah. Muralitharan took plenty of wickets in 2004, but was outpointed by the combination of Lehmanns daring and Martyns doggedness. There is something mental to all this, doubtless linked to…A history of Australian success plays on the minds of both sides Repeatedly, it has appeared that when matches get tight, Australian self-belief overwhelms Sri Lankan combinations briefly but critically afflicted by doubt. Arguably this began in Colombo in 1992, when a mighty first innings should have paved the way for a home win. But Allan Borders team scrounged a narrow lead, before Sri Lankas effort to rush to the target was undermined when a skittish skied one from de Silva was held by a running Border. From there Greg Matthews and a young Warne engineered a great escape, and Australias first win anywhere in Asia for 22 years.Lehmann has spoken on this trip about the need to get a first-innings lead before the pitches deteriorate, but he can also recall winning 3-0 in 2004 after falling behind on first innings in all three Tests. Even the solitary Sri Lankan win only arrived after their shaky chase of 95 was helped by some exceedingly conservative umpiring to deny Colin Miller a clear caught-and-bowled and then a very adjacent lbw appeal. Sri Lankan Test crowds are small A great many spectators filed into the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy as that victory in 1999 crept closer, but most of the time the atmosphere at Sri Lankan Tests is sorely lacking the sort of noise-inducing claustrophobia that can amount to a major competitive advantage. An Australian player once noted the contrast between sparsely attended South African grounds, where Australia have done well, and heaving English venues, where they have not. The same is true of Sri Lanka, where batsmen can hear each other call, bowlers can hear themselves think, and captains can plan in relative peace. Small wonder Sri Lanka Cricket are committed to raising their Test series attendances above 100,000 by paying attention to venue choices and ground facilities; touring teams eager to silence crowds in India rarely need to worry about doing so here. This time around, Australia should be heavily favoured to win the series anyway as the worlds No. 1-ranked side. Sri Lanka have some sizeable holes in their line-up, given a present dearth of fit pace bowlers and the abiding problem of how to cover for the loss of Mahela Jayawardene and Sangakkara, who are now ubiquitous on billboards rather than scoreboards in this part of the world. But just as Sri Lanka must look hard into the reasons why they so rarely taste Test success against Australia, so the visitors must weigh up what works here and nowhere else. All victories away from home have meaning, but a win for Smiths men in Sri Lanka may mean less in terms of next years trip to India than some might think. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- Colorado had to rebound from its first loss of the season and the Buffaloes did by rebounding.George King had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead Colorado to a 68-54 victory over No. 22 Texas on Tuesday in the third-place game of the Legends Classic at Barclays Center.King, who matched his career high for rebounds which he set on Monday, led the big rebounding game for the Buffaloes (4-1), who finished with a 41-32 advantage on the boards including 17-12 on the offensive glass. Colorado scored 18 second-chance points.Huge, Colorado coach Tad Boyle said of his teams rebounding. Thats really where you find out where the toughness comes from. Thats the stat that just shows up. Every game that we have youre either plus or youre minus. Last night Notre Dame outrebounded us. Today we outrebounded Texas by nine and thats a big number. We want plus eight, thats our goal and we hit it.And it was King who led the charge to the boards.George, the second half last night and tonight, he played (like) the light bulb was maybe coming on for him, Boyle said. He was terrific on the boards but I thought our whole team was.Derrick White had 16 points for Colorado, which lost 89-83 to Notre Dame in the semifinals, while Josh Fortune had 11.We needed that one, Boyle said. Its crazy to think in November you feel its a must win but thats how I felt approaching this game today for our team in terms of what it meant for down the road. You come to a place like this, you dont want to go home 0-2.Kerwin Roach Jr. led Texas (3-2) with 16 points and Jarrett Allen had 15.Colorado, despite giving up size on the inside, used offensive rebounding to take a 33-24 halftime lead. Led by King, a 6-foot-6 junior, the Buffaloes were up 16-2 at one point on the offensive glass and Texas had no answer. The Longhorns, who lost to Northwestern 77-58 in the semifinals, used full court pressure to force turnovers and they were within 54-51 with 5:12 left on two free throws by Allen. But Colorado went on an 11-2 run that was capped by -- what else? -- an offensive rebound by Wesley Gordon to match their biggest lead to that points.King said hes concentrating on rebounding.Absolutely. Im long, atthletic, he said. Yeezy Boost 350 Pirate Black For Sale. Why not use it because Im not going to have it forever.Texas was 3 for 17 from 3-point range while the Buffaloes made 6 of 14 from beyond the arc.I think for our guys, you never want to lose and you never feel good about losing, Texas coach Shaka Smart said. Theyre certainly down. I think anyone in our program is disappointed but Ill tell you what if you cant have a clear mind for what goes into what we need to do next, then youre in the wrong locker room. I think this has gotten our guys attention from the standpoint of some of the things we preach as coaches all the time, which is you have to have a level of humility in your preparation to understand what you have to do to take away what other teams are trying to do.Sometimes experience is the best teacher and unfortunately these two games we experienced here in New York, theyre tough pills to swallow. But if we can learn a lesson from them they can help us as we move forward.BIG PICTURE:Texas: The Longhorns will have to decide on which point guard will run the offense and they will have to work on the inside rotation. After averaging over 80 points a game in their first three, the Longhorns averaged 56 points per game in the tournament.Colorado: The Buffaloes have a deep roster and coach Tad Boyle has kept everyones minutes close with nobody averaging more than 28.5 minutes.POLL IMPLICATIONS:With the two losses in the Legends Classic Texas will almost certainly drop out of the Top 25. The Longhorns can still make a run at being ranked with all the Big 12 games to come.OLD FOES:Texas leads the all-time series with Colorado 14-10. The two were both in the Big 12 until Colorado left for the Pac-12.TURNING IT OVER: Texas had 11 turnovers and just four assists against Colorado. That leaves their assist-to-turnover ratio for the season at 51-56.UP NEXT:Texas: The Longhorns face Texas-Arlington at home on Tuesday and then host Alabama on Dec. 2.Colorado: The Buffaloes head back to Boulder for games with Wofford and Colorado State on Nov. 27 and Nov. 30. Auston Matthews delivered an NHL debut for the ages on Wednesday, scoring four goals on a night that wont soon be forgotten in the rich history of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Elgton Jenkins Super Bowl Jersey .The 19-year-old from Scottsdale, Arizona, chosen first overall in Junes NHL draft, scored on his first three shots against the Senators, with the hat trick prompting visiting Leafs fans at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa to throw hats onto the ice.Three was not enough, however.Matthews took a pass from linemate William Nylander on a 2-on-1 break and scored a fourth goal (on just his sixth shot) with three seconds left in the second period, becoming the first player in modern NHL history to score that many in his debut. The Senators went on to win the NHL season opener 5-4 in overtime.Matthews called the night pretty unbelievable. You dont really draw it up like that, he told Sportsnet after the game.It was a record-breaking evening all around for Matthews. The hat trick was the quickest for a player making his NHL debut (since 1943-44). And he became the fifth player overall to notch a hat trick?in his first game, joining Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers (2010), Fabian Brunnstrom of the Dallas Stars (2008), Real Cloutier of the Quebec Nordiques (1979) and Alex Smart of the Montreal Canadiens (1943).Matthews scored on his first shot at 8:21 into the first period, snapping in a pass from Zach Hyman during a scrum around the net.His second goal came with 5:42 left in the first, after he dangled through a pair of Senators near the blue line. After briefly losing possession, he stole the puck from two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson along the boards, then beat goalie Craig Anderson with an odd-angle forehand.Matthews put Toronto ahead 3-2 with a one-timer from inside the right circle on a feed from Morgan Rielly?at 1:25 into the second period. He then netted historic No. 4 with three seconds left in the second period, breaking a 3-3 tie.Despite the historic first game, Matthews took responsibility for the loss after failing to pick up Turris coming into the Toronto zone. Turris took in a pass from Mark Stone with Matthews chasing, set himself and fired a shot by Frederik Andersen. That last play was 100 percent my fault, he said. We came here to win and we didnt get that done.According to Elias Sports Bureau research, Matthews is the third-youngest player with four goals in a game, surpassed only by 18-year-olds Jack Hamilton (1943-44) and Bob Carpenter (1981-82).And at his current pace, Matthews will break Wayne Gretzkys NHL record of 894 goals in late February 2019, during his third NHL season and his 224th NHL game. (Gretzky had 186 goals in his first 224 NHL games.)After Wednesday nights game, however, Matthews downplayed any notion of ratcheted-up expectations.?You dont get too many of those games, said Matthews, the 12th first overall pick to score in his NHL debut. Its just one game. Take it, move forward and focus on the next one. It just happened to be a great night individually, and especially for our line. His parents, Brian and Ema Matthews, were at the game Wednesday night, and the look on their faces after each goal translated pure emotion. It meant a lot, Matthews said of having his parents there. Pretty special moment, not just for myself but for them, as well. They have been a pretty huge part of getting me to this point, so it was only right for them to be here for the first one.?Matthews Mania no doubt already is sweeping the NHL, but dont be in a rush to buy any of his jerseys just yet.The NHLs official store does not have any Matthews jerseys ready to go, so if fans want to purchase one, they have to customize it.The Leafs, who finished 30th overall in the standings in 2015-16, were accused by many of tanking last season in their attempt to secure the best possible odds in the NHL draft lottery to get Matthews. They lost out the previous year in the lottery, with the Edmonton Oilers taking Connor McDavid first overall. This time, the Leafs won the lottery, and there wasnt any hesitation in making Matthews the first overall pick. He is at the heart of a massive rebuild. The Leafs Stanley Cup drought dates back to 1967, and the current regime led by president Brendan Shanahan, general manager Lou Lamoriello and coach Mike Babcock is intent on making this youth movement work.I thought just for me, from my perspective, since Ive been the Leafs coach, thats the best night Ive had since Ive been here by 10 miles, not even close, because now we have an opportunity, Babcock said after Wednesday nights defeat. When you look at [Mitch] Marner -- I know Matthews scored all the goals -- I thought Marner in the first half of the game might have been the best player. I thought Nylander was great. I thought Hyman was great. I thought [Connor] Brown was great. I thought [Sam] Carrick was great. I thought [Nikita] Zaitsev was great. Pretty good night for us. Did we want the other point? Absolutely. The way we controlled the puck and controlled the game, youve got to win, and we didnt.Matthews arrives with a ton of hype in hockeys biggest market, but he has already shown maturity beyond his years.Hes a man, Babcock said. Hes 19 years old but he acts like hes 27. He has great maturity. If you meet his mom and dad, youre thoroughly impressed with the kind of people they are and the respect he has for his mom and sisters, the kind of guy he is.Dont get me wrong, we wouldve drafted him anyway, but that makes him more special.Information from The Associated Press, ESPN Stats & Information and ESPNs Darren Rovell was used in this report. Preston Smith Super Bowl Jersey . Barisal Bulls 192 for 4 (Mushfiqur 81*, Nafees 63) beat Rajshahi Kings 188 for 6 (Sabbir 122, Al-Ami 3-35) by four runs Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsSabbir Rahmans 122 went in vain in the first high-scoring thriller of this seasons BPL as Barisal Bulls prevailed over Rajshahi Kings by four runs.Barisal had to thank Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahriar Nafees, whose 112-run stand for the third wicket hauled them close to 200. Then, tight death bowling, none more important than the last over where Thisara Perera defended nine, helped them seal the game.Sabbir arrived at the crease in the first over after Raqibul Hasan was spectacularly caught at cover by Nafees. After punching the ball through the covers for his first boundary, he slammed Monir Hossain for a straight six, for the first of his nine sixes. But Barisal gave him a reprieve on 14 when Al-Amin Hossain dropped him at point.Sabbir ensured the Powerplay overs were put to use as he added 48 runs for the second wicket with Mominul Haque, but the left-hander fell in the sixth over. That was followed by the unfortunate dismissal of Umar Akmal. While the bowler didnt appeal, umpire Khalid Mahmood was perhaps influenced by Mushfiqurs appeal. Replays showed the ball was going over leg stump.Sabbiir was least affected by that, however, as he hammered hammered sixes off Taijul Islam and Al-Amin as Rajshahi caught up with the chase. Oren Burks Super Bowl Jersey. At the halfway mark, they were on course, having made 92 for 3. He soon brought up his 100 off just 53 deliveries before ecplising Chris Gayles record for the highest individual score (116) in the tournaments history. When he holed out to midwicket, Rajshahi needed 34 off the last four overs. The chase increasingly looked a struggle from there on as Sammy and Nurul Hasan couldnt find the boundaries. It got even harder after Sammy left with ten needed off the last seven balls, leaving Nurul and Abul Hasan to see them to 193. It boiled down to six off the final ball, which went for just a single to cover. Al-Amin, whose dropped catch made it hard for Barisal, ended up with three wickets while Monir, Abu Hider and Rayad Emrit had one each.Farhad Reza had earlier removed Dilshan Munaweera and Dawid Malan as Barisal slipped to 21 for 2 in the fifth over. Then it Mushfiqur and Nafees took over, and brought up a potentially match-winning total that was defended with much elan. ' ' '

If a domestic T20 competition is not called premier league, takes place when a countrys national team is otherwise engaged and features only a handful of international superstars, does it even exist? That will be the question swirling around South Africas shortest-format domestic tournament which starts on November 12. Anthony Hitchens Super Bowl Jersey .This summer it is simply called the T20 challenge, after courier company RAM chose not to renew its sponsorship and CSA failed to find another corporate backer in time. The big companies cant be blamed because the tournament is emerging out of the shadows of a fixing scandal in which five players were banned for between seven and twenty years. CSA maintains that no actual fixes were carried out, but it has been unable to put the issue to bed because the investigation is yet to be concluded. Perhaps until that happens, the integrity of this event hangs in the balance. The event is also jostling for relevance with higher-profile counterparts in other countries. Unlike the IPL, CPL, BBL or NatWest T20 blast, the South African T20 competition does not attract too many big names. The declining rand has a lot to do with it, but so does the timing. Currently, the only international sides not in action are Bangladesh and West Indies, which reduced the pool of players available for this competition. That the first half takes place with the Test side in Australia means even some of South Africas own internationals will be rare sightings at the competition. With all that in mind, CSA is mulling an overhaul to bring its T20 competition in line with those around the world. This winter, the board received a proposal for an eight-team tournament from the 2017-18 season. If approved, the new competition would either run alongside the current one, or replace it entirely and allow for a second-tier competition which will likely include the provincial semi-professional teams. For now though, the show will go on. Here is what to look forward to.TitansThe defending champions will be led by Albie Morkel, who put on a confident all-round display - 10 wickets at 13.30 and 198 runs at 39.60 - during their winning campaign last year but the focus is likely to be on another former international. Mark Boucher was appointed Titans coach and has enjoyed a strong start to his tenure. The Titans sit atop the first-class points table and they will want to translate that into shorter formats. They will have to do it without Quinton de Kock, who led the run charts last year but is with the Test squad in Australia. But they could welcome back Chris Morris, who was the leading wicket-taker but has been sidelined with a knee injury. On September 23, Morris was declared out for two months, which means he may miss the first three matches.DolphinsRunners-up last season, the Dolphins have the luxury of a superstar in their set-up. Kevin Pietersen, who has been hinting about his impending eligibility for South Africa ahead of a possible World T20 in 2018, will join them for the second half of the tournament, after commentary commitments in Australia. Pietersen played for them during the first half last season and almost single-handedly got them into the playoffs. He finished as the second leading run-scorer with 401 runs at 80.20, including two of the three hundreds scored. The other player to watch in their ranks is new international Andile Phehlukwayo. The allrounder debuted in South Africas five-match ODI series against Australia and finished as the leading wicket-taker.CobrasA franchise in turmoil following players unhappiness over the role of coach Paul Adams, the Cobras have had a miserable start to the season and lag well behind the other five franchises at the bottom of the first-class points table. The most interesting thing about their campaign will be whether the players follow through on their application for the right to strike.Richard Levi and Rory Kleinveldt are the Cobras big players, and both have recent form behind them in this format. The pair played for Northamptonshire and reached the final of the NatWest T20 Blast this winter. Kieron Pollard joins Levi and Kleinveldt in the experience department. Pollard was given an 11th-hour NOC from the WICB to play for the Cobras in the competition. WarriorsThe Eastern-Cape franchise has not won a trophy since the 2009-10 season, when Russell Domingo was still in charge, and will fancy their chances of changing that in this competition. The Warriors have a wealth of young talent, including fast-bowler Sisanda Magala, who finished second on last seasons wicket-taking charts, and batsman Colin Ackermann, who has signed with Leicestershire from next season. But they have also been through some change. Following Colin Ingrams decision not to lead the side, the captaincy is being shared between Simon Harmer in the longer format and JJ Smuts in shorter ones. Smuts captained Eastern Province to the Africa T20 Cup title earlier in the season and has also played in the CPL, so brings a fair amount of knowledge to the role.LionsHaving lost much of their core, including Dwaine Pretorius, to the national side, the Lions have a new look and a new leader for this tournament. National team spinner Aaron Phangiso has been put in charge, a curious choice given his disciplinary record, but one that lead to him blossoming with more responsibility. Phangiso was the third highest wicket-taker in the competition last season. He will be assisted by vice captain Nicky van den Bergh, who, along with Rassie van der Dussen, will have the job of most of the run-scoring. Under coach Geoffrey Toyana, the Lions have enjoyed success in every format over the last few seasons, but have dropped off slightly and will want to assert themselves again.KnightsOff-season acquisitions have got the Knights off to a fantastic start this season, and they sit second in the first-class competition. New captain Theunis de Bruyn has led from the front with the bat, while the inclusion of David Miller has added depth to the batting line-up. Marchant de Lange has been in fine form with ball in hand, and formed a dangerous duo with Duanne Olivier, which means the Knights have all their basis covered. Like the Warriors, the Knights have long waited to add to their trophy cabinet, and may be eyeing now as the time to do it. Mecole Hardman Super Bowl Jersey . West Indies captain Jason Holder has said he is a fan of the concept of day-night Test cricket, urging players to give the format a chance on the eve of his teams maiden pink-ball Test against Pakistan in Dubai. Wholesale Jerseys 2021 . Holder said he felt the day-night format would give Test cricket the push it needs to sustain itself in the modern cricket market.I like the concept and I think it is one that should be there to stay, he said. We have to give a chance to something new. Obviously, teams might first take time to adjust to it. Test cricket needs that bit of impetus, needs a bit of a push, and I think, possibly, day and night cricket could be it.The day-night concept has had its share of support from various corners, including Holders counterpart, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who recently stated that the future belongs to night Tests. Various concerns remain, nonetheless, on the durability and visibility of the ball. It is a new thing with the pink ball, everybody is just trying to get accustomed to it, Holder said. I personally did not have big problems with the sighting.Few of the players from the slip cordon said it was bit difficult to pick up, and also fielding square of the wicket, probably looking into the sun, it was difficult to sight. Having said that, it is what it is. Tomorrow starts the pink-ball Test, so we have got to adjust to it, we have got to just go there and just try to be as professional as we probably can.Holder did have his doubts about the balls durability, though. Personally, it does do a bit with the new ball. Five-six overs and after that it just stops a bit, and what I am basically concerned is just the condition of the ball, whether it will hold up, he said. Obviously, we had the experience of playing the warm-up game, and I reckon that around 30 to 40 overs, the ball starts to deteriorate and got really soft as well. It is interesting to see how it goes in this Test match, different conditions here in Dubai, and, hopefully, I just think the most important thing to do is keep it as simple as possible, just assess what the ball is doing, try your possible best and make it swing and move.West Indies have struggled in the longer formats of late. Their previous Test assignment, against India at home, ended in a 2-0 defeat, with one match being affected by rain.Obviously, it is a young team and we obviously went down in our last series. But it is a fresh series here and we had a pretty good lead-up to this Test series. We have been here quite a while, and most of the guys had a good camp in the Caribbean for the Test players alone, and they came here early and had a two-day game prior to the three-day game. I feel preparation, we have covered. It is just a matter of executing now. From the talks in the dressing room, everybody seems pretty confident, everybody is in good spirit, and so we can transfer on to the field of play.West Indies did have some positives in that India series, however, most notably in the second Test where they salvaged what had seemed an improbable draw. Reduced to 48 for 4 and still trailing India by 256 runs in the second innings, Roston Chase led a stoic resistance as West Indies batted out 88.1 overs on the final day, scoring 340 runs while losing just two wickets.Holder said the talent was there in the team, it was just a matter of execution. We have got some quality players. If you look down our line-up, Kraigg Brathwaite has been around for a little while and he has got a few centuries, Shane Dowrich came back into the squad in the last series and did well for himself. We have got the talent there, it is a matter of execution. We need to play some aggressive cricket. Wholesale Jerseys 2022 . PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers says offensive catalyst Janarion Grant and defensive end Quanzell Lambert suffered season-ending injuries during Saturdays loss to Iowa.Coach Chris Ash confirmed Monday that both seniors wont play again without disclosing the nature of their injuries.Grant was hurt late in the second quarter after a 76-yard catch and run to the Hawkeyes 3. Cornerback Desmond King stepped on his ankle at the end of the play.Grant had a hand in six touchdowns this season. He had eight career returns for touchdowns.Ash said Rutgers would petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt season for Grant, but it might not be granted because he played in four games.Lambert had six tackles and half a sack before hurting his right leg in the fourth quarter. Both starters meant a lot to the team and there wasnt any one more important than another, Ash said Monday. Wholesale Jerseys 2020. Derby County have confirmed that Kevin Phillips will stay on to assist new interim manager Darren Wassall after a day of upheaval at the iPro Stadium. Colorado Avalanche Gear . Paul Clement, formerly assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, was removed from his duties on Monday evening after less than nine months in charge and with the Rams just five points off the top of the Championship. Phillips was appointed as assistant to Clement last September.   Derby sack Clement Derby have sacked manager Paul Clement and replaced him with Darren Wassall The club have said that Wassall will remain in charge until the end of the season but Sky Sports News HQ reporter Rob Dorsett says it is possible the club may yet make a full-time appointment before then.     Dorsett said: The news came as a bit of a surprise. It was quite a coup when Derby hired Paul Clement eight months ago. Hes been assistant to Carl Ancelotti at Real Madrid and PSG and he has built up quite a reputation around Europe. There were a lot of clubs interested in hiring him. Will Derby wait until the end of the season until they make a full-time appointment? Rob Dorsett, Sky Sports News HQ Chairman Mel Morris said at the time We have got to be patient but in fact, they gave him 30 games, they werent impressed with what they saw and decided to sack him. My understanding from my sources is that it was more of a disagreement behind the scenes, about the direction the club was taking, that led to this breakdown. He spent £21.5m on players but remember, the club sanctioned those sales. He has had problems with injuries and with Craig Forsyth out for the season, he had not had a recognised left-back. Former Derby player Marc Edworthy talks to Sky Sports News HQ after his old club sacked manager Paul Clement My sources say that Wassall, the former Academy director who has been at the club since 2009, will stay in charge until the end of the season. But the question remains, with names like Nigel Pearson and David Moyes out there, will Derby wait until the end of the season until they make a full-time appointment? The next couple of weeks, the next few games, will tell us a whole lot more.It has also been confirmed that first-team coach John Peacock and head of tactical analysis David Burke have left the club in the wake of Clements departure. Peacock, 59, returned to the club last summer after a spell working for the Football Association.  Richard Keogh (right) has been handed the captains armband once more In other news, Richard Keogh has been reinstated as club captain, having been relieved of the armband after Clements appointment last summer.Clement named summer signing Chris Baird as the new skipper and, since then, Chris Martin and Stephen Warnock have also led the side. The split-decision loss in the action-packed Olympic bantamweight gold-medal fight was so crushing to the U.S.s Shakur Stevenson on Saturday afternoon in Rio de Janeiro that he could barely speak in the minutes afterward.During his live interview on NBC right after he left the ring following his loss to Cubas brilliant Robeisy Ramirez -- who won his second gold medal in a row following his 2012 flyweight championship at the 2012 London Olympics -- Stevenson broke down. After choking up while barely answering a couple of questions, he began sobbing almost uncontrollably before putting his head in a towel and walking away. The raw emotion was a stark change from the joyful, smiling Stevenson the world had seen during his run to the Olympic final in the 123-pound weight division. The 19-year-old Stevenson, of Newark, New Jersey, was consoled in the dressing room by family members, as well as middleweight teammate Claressa Shields, who won her second consecutive Olympic gold medal on Sunday afternoon.Stevenson took a few minutes to compose himself, changed and headed back out to the ring for the medal ceremony, where he received a silver. It is the best finish by a male boxer from the United States since Andre Ward, who happens to be Stevensons favorite fighter, won the light heavyweight gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games. When Stevenson, who showed class by not disputing the decision, collected himself as he spoke about his postfight emotion and in more detail about the loss. When I came through (the interview area near ringside), I was crushed, I was hurt, Stevenson said. I hate losing more than anything. Im disappointed in myself. Much respect to Cubas Robeisy Ramirez. He did what he to do and I took my loss. I feel like a let a lot of people down. Im disappointed in myself but Im going to come back stronger. The fight was fought at an extremely high level. Ramirez won the first round on all three scorecards, Stevenson got the second round on all three and Ramirez edged the third. Overall, Ramirez landed slightly more punches and threw slightly more punches. It was the recipe for his victory.I knew it was a close fiight, Stevenson said. Custom Colorado Avalanche Jerseys. I didnt feel it was my best performance so I wasnt surprised (by the decision). In the last round, I could have thrown more punches instead of trying to outbox him. I had a plan, I knew he was going to come at me because everyone told me it was 1-1 so I was going to try to box him from the outside but it didnt work. I dont think he hit me but he threw a lot of punches in the last round and pulled it out I guess.Right now, Im crushed. Im disappointed in myself. I knew I could have done better. I have to go look at the tape and see what I did wrong. I had a game plan to try to outbox him the last round because I knew he was going to come forward and it didnt work.Stevenson is the apple of many promoters eyes and figures to cash in with a lucrative professional contract in the coming months. He has almost certainly fought his final amateur bout, so he said he hopes that someday he and Ramirez can meet again in the pro ranks, where there would be a lot of money on the line, not just pride.Hopefully, they will allow Cubans to go to the pros because I definitely want to fight him again, said Stevenson, who became the first U.S. bantamweight to win an Olympic medal since Clarence Vinson claimed a bronze in the 2000 Sydney Games.Floyd Mayweather made an appearance in Rio to watch Stevenson in his quarterfinal match (he wound up with a walkover in the semifinals because Russian opponent Vladimir Nikitin was injured in his quarterfinal match and withdrew from the tournament) and even did an interview with a handful of reporters with Stevenson standing at his side. He spoke glowingly of Stevensons professional potential and said he thought he was the next Floyd Mayweather, leading to heavy speculation that Stevenson had already aligned himself with Mayweather Promotions. However, Stevenson set the record straight after his loss Saturday, saying he is leaving his pro options open.I havent signed with anybody so Im going to go home and look at my options, he said. BALTIMORE -- One touchdown and Justin Tuckers flawless right leg were enough to thrust the Baltimore Ravens into a first-place tie in the AFC North. Red Wings Jerseys China .Tucker kicked four field goals and Baltimore shut down the Cincinnati Bengals depleted offense Sunday in a 19-14 victory that put the resurgent Ravens back over .500.Baltimore (6-5) has won three of four following a four-game losing streak.Joe Flacco threw for 234 yards and a score to help the Ravens end a five-game skid against the Bengals (3-7-1), whose playoff hopes took another serious blow. The victory was not assured until Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton fumbled when sacked by Elvis Dumervil, and defensive end Lawrence Guy recovered at the Baltimore 21 with 1:05 left and the Ravens up 19-12.We dont want a fumble at the end, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. He moved up in the pocket. They just got a hand on the ball.Cincinnati got a safety on the final play when Baltimore punter Sam Koch ran out of the end zone. Koch was able to run out the clock because his teammates were intentionally holding the oncoming Bengals, drawing numerous flags.By rule, a game does not continue on an offensive penalty as it would on a defensive penalty.Dalton went 26 for 48 for 283 yards. He fumbled three times, losing two.At this point, the Bengals will need a sensational finish to extend their run of consecutive playoff appearances to six. Cincinnati has won only one of seven games since Sept. 29.We have been able to control it ourselves. Now we need help, Lewis said.Tucker connected from 52, 57 and 54 yards to stake the Ravens to a 16-3 halftime lead. He added a 36-yard field goal to make it 19-9 with 12:16 remaining.Tucker has made 34 field goals in a row, including 27 this season, and has connected on all 15 conversion tries. If you want to win, you want the ball in your hands, Tucker said. In my case, at your feet.Baltimores second-ranked defense was the difference-maker. Terrell Suggs had two sacks and forced two fumbles, and the Bengals gained only 64 yards on the ground.Baltimore had something to do with it, but Cincinnati was playing without running back Giovani Bernard and wide receiver A.J. Green , both of whom were injured last week in a loss to Buffalo. Bernard was lost for the season with a torn ACL and Green sustained a hamstring injury that could sideline him for several weeks. The Ravens led 16-3 in the third quarter before Dalton directed an 86-yard drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tyler Eifert. The conversion by Mike Nugent sailed wide right -- the third straight extra point he missed over a two-game span. He is 19 for 23 on conversions this season. It was 16-9 entering the final 15 minutes. That did not bode well for a Bengals team that was averaging four points in the fourth quarter. The Ravens, meanwhile, scored their lone touchdown on the first drive of the game. After Flacco threw a 14-yard scoring pass to Breshad Perriman, Tucker added a field goal. The Bengals answered with a field goal and used an interception by Rey Maualuga to gain possession at the Baltimore 19.But Dalton was surprised by a third-down snap and Dumervil recovered to end the threat. Dumervil (foot) was playing in only his third game of the season. The offense started out great, put points on the board, Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley said. When the pressure is on, the defense has to come through. And we did.STREAK BREAKERThe Ravens skid against the Bengals began in 2013 and included four straight defeats by a total of 22 points.Im really happy for the older guys who had been on that losing streak, rookie cornerback Tavon Young said. Sajid: How disappointed are you about missing selection for the World T20 squad for England?Luke: I think disappointment is the right word here as one always wants to play in major tournaments like the World T20 for your country. Having said that, I have to admit that the team is playing some amazing cricket at the moment and have some wonderful young players in the mix. Were just a few weeks away from the start of the ICC World Twenty20. Who will walk away with the trophy? All in all, it is a tough squad to get into but I will say in my defence that in the last few years, I have played very well in different conditions and sometimes you do as much as you can which is what I have done but if you dont get picked, then there is no point feeling bitter about it. You just keep going and do what I am doing which is to enjoy my cricket.Sajid: Do you feel that you are now reaching a point where it will become difficult to be picked for England squads in the future?Luke: Well the next Twenty20 World Cup will be in 2020 and given that I am thirty now, I may well be too old for that edition of the tournament. But then, who knows? You never say never and you keep on playing and doing the best you can. I just feel that I am lucky that I travel round the world playing cricket and if I can keep on scoring runs and keeping all those sides happy, then who knows what happens in the future? Alex Hales is convinced England are genuine contenders to win the World T20 Sajid: How do you rate Englands chances in the upcoming World T20?Luke: England will be up against some very tough opposition in this tournament. You always tend to favour the sub-continental sides in tournaments held in that part of the world as they understand the conditions well, and also play spin bowling very well. Having said that, England have a pretty good squad with some good results to show in the recent past. They have a lot of hitting and bowling power and it will come down to whether they can perform well in that tournament or not. So, it will be tough but then when you look at some of the players in the England line-up, you will see that they have some excellent match-winners. No contract Sajid: Moving on to the Pakistan Super League, are you impressed by the overall standard of this tournament?Luke: The standard of the whole tournament has been excellent. From what I understand, there are a lot of very good players in Pakistan who have been left out of the teams as the competition for places is pretty tough. So the best local players have been picked and that has been complemented with the standard of play as presented by the overseas players. I suppose the only missing bit which we always knew would be an issue is the presence of crowds at the games. However, what we have been seeing in Sharjah in terms of crowds has been very heartening and we also know that we have a lot people watching these games in Pakistan where there is a huge following. The tournament has been organized very well and as players we are all focused on doing our job which is to play to the best of our abilities. Wright hit 109 from 63 balls as Stars recorded a seven-wicket Big Bash victory over the Renegades Sajid: You appear to be very popular among Pakistan fans; how do you explain this?Luke: I am not sure myself! I suppose in this form of cricket, providing entertainment in the form of fours and sixes whilst batting in the top order will always win you friends. On top of that, people probably enjoy watching me bat with Ahmed Shehzad, so that could be another reason. I am enjoying my cricket and have done well so far and if I can continue like that, then I will pick more fans along the way.Sajid: Any advice for Ahmed Shehzad at a time when he must be disappointed at not being picked for Pakistans WT20 squad?Luke: Yes, both Kevin Pietersen and I spoke to Ahmed on this subject. Fact is that we have all been left out of our countrys squad at some point in our careers. There arent too many people who go through their career without being left out of the team and it is important to not dwell upon this but to work at getting back into the team. In my experience, even the best England players like Ian Bell have been left out but came back to make important contributions for the squad.Ahmed Shehzad is only 24 and he is a very good player and I do believe that he will be a very important player for Pakistan cricket in the future. What he needs to do now is to go away and makes lots of runs and he will be back in the squad soon. Wright and Kevin Pietersen have offered support to Ahmed Shehzad Sajid: Based on what you have seen so far in the PSL, how do you rate Pakistans chances in the upcoming World T20?Luke: I believe Pakistan have a good chance of impressing in the World T20. They are all very skillful players and most importantly, they know the conditions very well. In my personal view, they would have had a better chance if they had Ahmed Shehzad in the side but even without him, the squad is a strong one and which is very difficult to beat.Watch the first Twenty20 international between South Africa and England live on Sky Sports 2 this Friday from 3.30pm.Before then, do not miss South Africa Women take on England Women in their second T20 from 11.25am on Friday, also on Sky Sports 2. Thanks to a dramatic season-opening 50-47 win over Notre Dame and a 41-7 thumping of UTEP, the heat is off Texas head coach Charlie Strong. Flames Jerseys 2020 .But for the 11th-ranked Longhorns to become serious Big 12 contenders, theyll need to find a way to improve greatly on a 1-4 road record in 2015. The first chance to do that comes on Saturday night when Texas (2-0) travels to the Bay Area to face Cal (1-1).California, behind future No. 1 NFL Draft pick Jared Goff, handed Texas a 45-44 home loss last season, a contest that ended with kicker Nick Rose missing an extra point that would have possibly sent the game to overtime. A victory in the rematch Saturday would give Texas its first 3-0 start since 2012, even Strongs record in Austin to 14-14 and possibly move the Longhorns into the top-10 next week.Youre taking a young team into a hostile environment, Strong said. There are certain things as a team that you have to pack. Youve got to pack your defense. We can take the crowd out of the game if we can play great defense. When it comes to traveling with confidence, Strong said he will lead by example. Its all about the attitude of the players and even the coaches, Strong said. They will look at how we lead and thats how theyll go.Texas will face a couple of Texans across the field in Cal coach Sonny Dykes, son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes, and quarterback Davis Webb, who transferred to the Golden Bears from Texas Tech. No matter the results for either team coming into the game, Dykes and Webb have familiarity with Texas and no doubt burn to beat the Longhorns. They also have the offense to properly duel with Texas.Strong knows his team will have to accept giving up yards, but also need to make a few big plays on defense. Its going to be a big challenge for our secondary, Strong said. We need to get pressure on the quarterback to take pressure off the secondary because some balls are going to be completed. We just cant allow balls to be thrown over our head.Cal graduated a ton of its leaders, across the table defensively, including Goff: the Los Angeles Rams first pick in the NFL draft. His replacement, senior transfer Davis Webb, has been splendid -- including in the Golden Bears 45-40 loss to San Diego State Saturday on the road.Webb threw for 522 yards and five touchdowns, so the Golden Bears offense wasnt the problem. As its been in recent years, it was the defense yielding 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns to Aztecs tailback Donnel Pumphrey, the reigning Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Now, Cal sits in danger of falling to 1-2 with the opening of Pacific-12 Conference play waiting on Sept. 24 at Arizona State. Golden Bears coach Sonny Dykes, in his fourth year in Berkeley, was proud of the effort, though, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Our effort was outstanding. He said that was the hardest any team has ever played under him, Cal wide receiver Chad Hansen said, reflecting on Dykes postgame message. Its no consolation, but we know we left everything out on the line.Hansen is becoming the breakout star the Golden Bears believed he could be. After Cals six most productive wide receivers saw their collegiate eligibility end after 2015, Hansen has posted team-highs with 28 catches for 350 yards. Those numbers also lead the FBS. He also has caught three TDs. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior had 14 grabs for 190 yards and a TD against San Diego State. The Longhorns have benefitted from two capable quarterbacks in true freshman Shane Buechele (starter) and senior Tyrone Swoopes (dynamic running threat). It was an unusually quiet night for a player who was at the top of his game in leading the Spurs to their first finals appearance since 2007 and helped win Game 1 with a leaning bank shot with 5.2 seconds left. "They were really aggressive, obviously," Parker said about a Heat team determined not to go down 0-2 in this best-of-seven series. "You have to give a lot of credit to their defence. They played great defence tonight. They were very aggressive on the pick-and-rolls and all our drives." Parker also turned the ball over five times after having zero in his sterling Game 1 performance. Duncan had nine points on 3-for-13 shooting, and Ginobili had five points and missed four of his six shots. "For sure Tim, Tony and me have to step up and play much better," Ginobili said. "We have basically no shot of winning against them if none of us play good. We have to play better." Game 3 is Tuesday night in San Antonio. Parker entered the game averaging 22.9 points and 7.1 assists for the playoffs and fresh off another scintillating performance to open pursuit of the franchises fifth championship. He scored 21 points and had five assists, and had the shot of the game -- and maybe these playoffs -- when he went down to one knee, got up, pivoted around LeBron James and stepped through for a 16-foot jumper with a split-second left on the shot clock to hold off the Heat. After two days off, the weary defending champions seemed to have a little extra jump in their step, especially on the perimeter. Mario Chalmers, who also scored 19 points, said he was determined to not let Parker slice and dice the Heat defence in the pick-and-roll like he did so many times in Game 1. "My main focus is to stop Tony Parker," Chalmers said. "Thats my job, to not let him get going. Ahkello Witherspoon Super Bowl Jersey. " Parker missed five of his first seven shots, and he didnt get much help from the other two of San Antonios Big 3. Ginobili picked up three quick fouls in the first half that limited his playing time and Duncan didnt have any of the same success against a rejuvenated Chris Bosh that he did in Game 1. Duncan had 20 points and 11 rebounds in that victory, but Bosh had 12 points, 10 boards, four assists and three steals in Game 2. "I look at my shots and they are the shots I want," Duncan said. "Obviously they are contested shots, but theyre the shots I feel I can make. So whether it be them or me or whatever it may be, Im going to get back in the gym tomorrow and hopefully come out with a better stroke." Spurs coach Gregg Popovich threw his hands up when asked what changed for his three leaders between the first game and the second. "Defence has something to do with it. Missing shots has something to do with it," Popovich said. "But any way you slice it, its 10 for 33." Thanks to 17 points from Danny Green on 6-for-6 shooting, the Spurs led 62-61 with under four minutes to play in the third quarter. Thats when the Heat turned it on, ripping off a staggering 33-5 run that sent American Airlines Arena into a frenzy. The Spurs couldnt find a sliver of daylight to run their usually precise offence, and Parker had nowhere to go against a host of Heat defenders. After tying a finals record with four turnovers in the first game, the Spurs committed 17 on Sunday night, which led to 19 points for the Heat. "We just couldnt find answers tonight," Parker said. After James threw down a soaring dunk to cap Miamis incredible surge and give Miami a 91-67 lead, Popovich pulled his three stars, and they watched the rest of the game from the bench, a golden opportunity to take a commanding lead vaporized in a flash. "We were expecting to do better," Ginobili said. "Thats the frustrating part. Of course you look at the result and being 1-1 is not bad. You dont want to play like this in the NBA Finals. You dont want to give them confidence and have you feeling bad about yourself."

EUGENE, Ore. -- Carl Lewis has said recently that the long jump is now the worst event in track and field, but he wouldnt have found a lot of support from the long jumpers at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials Saturday. Especially regarding the women. The womens side is better now than it used to be, Tianna Bartoletta said. Its not the days of Jackie Joyner-Kersee, but were getting back there. Brittney Reese jumped great today. Its going to change. Everyones expectations of what theyre capable of is going up.Not only did Reese jump great, she surpassed the U.S. Olympic trials mark Joyner-Kersee set back at the 1988 trials. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist leaped 7.31 meters, or 23 feet, 11? inches, to win Saturday and qualify for Rio. Thats still nearly nine inches short of the world record, but it was the longest jump in 12 years and Reeses personal best.Im just honored, Reese said. I look up to [Joyner-Kersee] -- shes a mentor to me. Just to have her in my corner and to break records of hers. She just told me that I have a lot more left in me, and I feel like I agree with her. To break records that shes broken is just a testament to my training.Bartoletta, who won the title at the 2015 world championships, finished second with a leap of 7.02 even though she also had to compete in Saturdays 100-meter qualifiers (she advanced to Sundays semis). It might not come this year, but I feel like if I stay on the track I am now, by next year it might be a little easier.Buffalo Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin competed in the long jump at the 2012 Olympics and will try to qualify for Rio in Sundays mens finals. Goodwin said he doesnt take Lewis view of the long jump personally.I think Im pretty damn good at what I do, he said. But all respect to him. Hes an older guy and hes definitely done a lot for this sport and you can never take that away from him. People are allowed to say whatever they want. Thats just how he feels. Its just an opinion of his. It doesnt make or break the sport.Reese says she doesnt agree with Lewis, either.A lot of the people I train with -- Will Claye, Michael Hartfield -- theyre jumping and Im impressed at what theyre doing, she said. I feel like theyre going to prove him wrong tomorrow [at the trial finals].And the womens side is strong. The U.S. can sweep it in Rio. Tianna is the reigning champion from last year.
