The latest edition of RuneScape from Sletrry's blog

Jagex is closing down RuneScape Classic after 17 Decades.RuneScape Classic is, essentially, a picture of RuneScape as it initially released in 2001. That first version has seen two major improvements in the years buy RS gold, as well as (slightly confusingly) the coming of Old School RuneScape - a variant of the game much more or less as it had been at 2007.

It's not updated or formally supported by the programmer, but access is still allowed to particular players.

In its article announcing RuneScape Classic's closure, Jagex clarified that"It has been wonderful to see such devotion amongst those of you who have kept playing RuneScape Classic within the past couple of years [...] However, it is not all fun and games.

"With advancements in technology helping to further support both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, our resources are no longer compatible with Classic. This is especially a problem with our network safety and macro detection tools. The sport is now readily abused with the usage of 3rd party macro tools, and botting is getting an increasing issue."

Worse still, says Jagex, is the fact that it"can no longer offer you long-term support reliability as a result of growing risk of unrecoverable game breaking bugs". These bugs, it stresses, can't be repaired"due to the unsupported nature of the match".
