The remake version of Live a Live is set to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch in July, and a remake of Dragon Quest III is currently developing D2R Ladder Items. There are many other games that can benefit from the look, which is why it's fascinating to find out exactly what Square Enix does with HD-2D in the future. Although the company has evidently committed to this style of graphic, Asano went on to reveal that there is no current "definitive book," and it will be evolving with each game.

"We haven't come up with anything similar to that. The way in which it's written differs for each title, meaning that the HD-2D flavour will differ slightly each time. With Live A Live for example the setting in the prehistoric part is going be different from the sci-fi scene. 

The possibilities of expression have been widened by the innovative ideas we've come up with. "While the price might be prohibitive for certain developers, HD-2D has definitely become a draw for many gamers. We hope to witness Square Enix find new ways to extend the style with a variety of games to be in the future!
